There’s an old expression in boxing, a “slugger’s chance.” It means an underdog is given an outside chance to win if the fighter has a reputation for being an especially heavy puncher.
She’s not a viable candidate for the White House, in my opinion but I remain perplexed that Trump won in 2016. I like her for what she does to Trump but all my money is on Biden.
I am late here but I really have a hard time giving Haley credit for anything. I think she was interviewed by a Black owned radio station where she had the unmitigated gall to say that Obama caused the racial divide that we are seeing today! That and her denial about why the Civil War happened is a big fat NO for me.
I would say yay for Nikki, except she raised her hand and said she would vote for him, regardless of… And… And… And…. Liking to see her bug the hell out of Trump, but why in the hell did she raise her hand?
For the same reason she said she likes his policies but “chaos follows him.” She wants & needs his voters. She ain’t gonna get ‘em. Historically, candidate-lite version does not beat the original. She’s waffled on everything always & will fail badly in SC in part because she is a shallow candidate-lite relying on billionaires, age & sass; because in SC they love their Trump & Ms. Quips failed to build relationships. (Exhibit A: The people she helped abandoned her & she abandoned those who helped her after she got what she wanted.)
Project 2025 is all that matters. Haley, trump, desantis, Christy; they are all just tools. In today’s world, NO Republican will uphold our Constitution. The only conversation to have is “voting Republican is voting to end Democracy”. Period!
It is what I would expect from him. After all, he is the author of a book about Appalachians (Kentuckians in particular) through the lens of his own self-loathing. He’s another chameleon going where he sees benefit to himself. Mo’ power, mo’ money.
He follows the playbook with precision. For instance distracting from the politicization of cases against trump by trump by invoking Reid Hoffman. Meanwhile, in our faces are donnie and his PAC ‘general counsel’ Alina Habba with all their overt politicization.
All true, but the scary part is, if you know of Project 2025, you recognized his parroting of virtually every point in that evil manifesto. You would think this treason would be kept quiet until such time as it could be implemented. It just boggles the mind the brazenness of these people. Full disclosure, I live in Ohio, and am well versed in the lack of critical thinking skills amongst those residing along the Ohio River. Ever since Clinton gave away all the steel mill jobs, and the mining jobs, the Democrats have lost these votes. But, you would think, by now, they would have come to the realization that they have been voting against their best interests, and it's time to get on the Biden train, and help bring all those jobs back. It's actually quite sad, and now, they look at a blatant Russian operative as a kindred spirit, and continue to shoot themselves in the foot. OK, I'm done; thanks for allowing me to rant.
Yes, I recognize it. I’m not surprised at all. He is a person without character. I’m sure many more have taken the Heritage Foundation training but are (for now) quiet about it. Maybe it is his way of competing with female prospects to be VP. (He is a misogynist.)
I recognized his book was a way to neutralize his family history in an election where large portions of the population resents Appalachians. So much so that the Cincinnati housing authority added them to the list of groups considered a ‘protected class’. The book helped pave his way to victory. He was able to be from Appalachia, stoke yet rise above the stereotypes at the same time. He is more articulate with a more pleasant demeanor; willing to throw anyone under the bus. Maybe more dangerous? OTOH, Ohio worships Jim Jordan.
Nikki Haley seems a reluctant Republican. In the social arena, how can she be fully on board with their enmity toward minorities when she herself is a minority? All along it was an odd relationship: The Republican Party abides non-WASP fellow-travelers only as (pardon the expression) honorary Republicans, because they are not white. They are tolerated, but never embraced; whereas the Democrats embrace everybody who subscribes to the fundamental precepts of our Constitution, starting with egalitarianism. And it only got tested further when Nixon invited Strom Thurmond's Dixiecrats in bed with former Rockefeller Republicans, a marriage of convenience still tentative and vulnerable to an acid test. Fundamental discomforts don't simply vanish with a declaration of turning over a new leaf. The two are locked in the world's longest-running test marriage, awaiting their first "stress test" to measure the integrity of such an iffy union, which was and is a marriage of convenience and survival for both.
The Dixiecrats foundational basis was (and most think IS) is white supremacy, a "purity" and identity
concept that supersedes the foundational concept of equality. How does that coexist with a contending reality once known as "Rockefeller Republicanism," elitist and nearly entirely white and Protestant? At best a situational and conditional collaboration, not a natural blending, seen historically.
The experiment is a work in progress, not yet fully tested. How much longer can it go on as is, with the reality of demographics in its future? In another 6 years or so, America shall have become a majority minority nation. Can a white supremacy mindset survive that pending reality? America's transformation began with the Civil War, then the 14th & 15th Amendments, prodded along with the Civil Rights Act of the 1950's. Our nation became the better for all those developments. The impetus continues. While America's destiny has yet to be fully fulfilled, it proceeds in that direction, becoming more unstoppable as time passes. Old ways of thinking recede into irrelevance with every census. Time appears to be on the side of progress, fulfilling our nation's destiny as articulated by our Founding Documents, and as embraced at each new juncture, facing down resistance to it.
"God Bless America"? As a political idea, America has prevailed so far, without regressing or compromising its principles. May it always.
As Trump continues to loose more of his court cases, and I believe he will, more people will turn to Haley. Haley’s multiple billionaires backing is frightening, Money speaks. She may well be the Republican candidate and could be our next president. She will stand for the oligarchy and theological determinism, and against democracy and the majority of the people just likes Trump. But she will do it in what seems to be a more palatable way. As usual, follow the money and see what the agenda of those monied folks is, ie making more money at the majority’s expense, Frightening times.
It's also been said it's not the dog in the fight it's the fight in the dog. The entire Republican party has now devolved into little more than a vicious dog fight. Only after blood from whomever they can victimize is all they are left with tactically as they are and have been for some time now locked in total moral bankruptcy.
Both contestants in this fight are losers as Trump is now a convicted rapist and Haley has a backbone made of mercury with the political consistancy of a chameleon.
It does not matter who the GOTP pics as their front runner. The only thing I care about at this point is no matter who it is...they lose.
A recent unhappy incidence happened at St. Pancras Station in London involving a piano. This has come to be called Pianogate.
We all wear colour glasses. But the right pair reveals the truth. Pianogate is a good illustration of this point. In Pianogate the whole incidence was recorded on video. The pianist was live streaming. The video equipment used of course was not perfect. But without it, the pianist--Dr. K-- could easily have come out as the villain when in fact he had done nothing wrong.
Will the video stop the trolls from attacking Dr. K by n-dimensional lying? No. If Truth is not on your side, create confusion to the n-th degree. That way you can fool yourself into concluding you haven't lost. Which is to say, hard as it is, you have to believe your own lies. Same playbook as MAGA.
Explanation is not justification. In my view, from a distance, I worry about the quality of the total process, beginning with the donors of big money, but then the selective financing of candidates, the money of billionaires to the media, and so on. And why is it necessary for Congress to discuse the intimate bodyparts of Hunter Biden?
I mean, the system is maybe hard to change, but what I miss is an angry protest against the unbelievable stupidity in political proceedings in Washington.
I don't like her. She is disingenuous and panders. She said America is not, nor ever has been a racist country. I don't need to know anything else.
She’s not a viable candidate for the White House, in my opinion but I remain perplexed that Trump won in 2016. I like her for what she does to Trump but all my money is on Biden.
I really like Clifford Asness's response to the chance of being "barred" from MAGA - are there more like him who won't kow-tow to the orange combover?

Project 2025 listed her as one of the candidates they’ve met with about implementing it.
And that is another thing to broadcast everywhere! Speaking of, did you see ABC This Week today? A frightening interview with Ohio Senator jd vance: https://abcnews.go.com/ThisWeek/video/1-1-sen-jd-vance-106933004

Nothing like a Sunday rant 😊

Does Haley use the MAGA playbook?
1/31/2024:
"former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan gets 14-year jail term for graft"
**** WHY Won't They Put tRump In Jail For His CRIMES?!!!
Explanation is not justification. Unbelievable stupidity in the gop!! I like that!!👏
The question is not whether she has a chance or not but is she good for Biden? Can she hurt TFG enough is the question?
She is a veiled maga Republican. She will kiss the ring soon. She changed her name to hide her ethnicity is enough to remove her!!
Trump will be the nominee.
All this overthinking is a waste of time.
There’s many a slip twixt the cup and the lip. 🥸 Well known saying.
