in their book, “The Constitution in Jeopardy”, Feingold (President of American Constitution Society) and Prindiville (former chief of staff of senate judiciary committee) wrote: “The country may well be on the verge of a new chapter in constitutional history, one animated by the awakening of a long-dormant provision-Article V. Far-right activists have seized on Article V's provision for a constitutional convention as a new route to advance their political agenda.

Their road to success is steep, to be sure. But they have already gained significant ground with little scrutiny or opposition.

This effort should not come as a total surprise, nor should the possibility of claims of a successful application effort and convention call catch citizens off guard. These efforts can be tracked and their consequences foreseen. Yet those who would likely find the results most disturbing including progressives, liberals, many moderates, and perhaps even some conservatives tend to discount the threat. Because Article V has been so infrequently used, and the convention route never successfully deployed, they consider the provision to be toothless, a quirky vestige of a time long ago.”

We seem so preoccupied by the petty power struggles and shenanigans of the GOP that we may not be seeing beyond these smokescreens. The biggest threat is that they might sneakily change the constitution so as to limit the federal government’s powers, curbs the jurisdiction/power of the courts, and turn this into something it isn’t. And we’re here squabbling over the whataboutism of classified documents. Let’s wake up, people!

I remain steadfast in my convictions. I believe in the goodness of people. I look for the faint glimmer that assures me that they feel, they care, and they cry.

I remain steadfast in my convictions for I know not where I’d be without them.

I remain steadfast in my convictions that this country is worth saving and that I must do everything I can as I wistfully see a future filled with harmony. I refuse to give in or give up.

This is a resilient species used to lots of conflicts over water, land and rights

We wouldn’t have left Africa and kept going to the ends of the Earth if things were so good at home

That we are contesting this election and voting rights and other rights should be no surprise since that’s about all we’ve done since forever

We just have more refined tools than stone-tipped spears today

Slick ways to win based on subterfuge

Yet we prevail, mostly, in moving forward

That is because we’re sick of being pushed around

Reminds me of Billy Joel’s We didn’t start the fire!

We will stay steady, hold onto our hope, and continue trying to “fight it”

You say it best, Dan. I’m so tired of all the struggling through my life. I’m 19 yrs younger than you. I see you continuing the “fight” for what is right for all. I’m inspired by your continued fight in you.

The last sentence is an excellent way to live life. To me yes Perseverance !! Regardless of the severity of the struggle!! The 70s when I was active in social causes , was the motto I lived every day by. Yes, we achieved I thought, great accomplishments . To be honest at 73 and the regression of this country’s apparent values, hope is vanishing to me. I guess there’s still prayers. I see very little altruism- like in the 70s, the recent polls showing that gas prices and grocery prices are more relevant to citizenry than the right of women to determine control over their own bodies. The poll last night showed only 5% considered abortion rights most important. I’ll tell you Mr Rather, gas prices will come down along with grocery prices but women’s rights are still going to stay violated. Where’s the hope for women in this country????

Yes. times are challenging for many people, especially the working poor. But (you always have to have a but) the current inflation is caused primarily by corporate greed and Putin's war on Ukraine. The overall issue in the US should not be gas prices and food costs, those are self serving, but the future of democracy. It's democracy that is at stake in the US right now. That is more important than the cost of gas or corn flakes. It's amazing that almost 50% of Americans consider that temporary inflation is more important than long-term democracy. It's extremely egotistical and selfish. Just think about what the Ukrainians and the women in Iran are going through, sacrificing their lives for democracy. There is nothing more precious and valuable in people's lives than to live in a democratic system.

What follows is a piece I found emailed to me which I think is VERY pertinent to our current times also:

This has been around before but thought it needed a repeat. Problem is - the grey haired brigade is dwindling fast!!! /s

PATRIOTS: Below message makes reference to most of us, putting it gently, grey haired folks who has the privilege of paying the fare.

The typical U.S. household headed by a person aged 65 or older has a net worth 47 times greater than a household headed by someone under 35, according to an analysis of census data released Monday.

They like to refer to us as senior citizens, old fogies, geezers, and in some cases dinosaurs. Some of us are "Baby Boomers" getting ready to retire. Others have been retired for some time. We walk a little slower these days, and our eyes and hearing are not what they once were. We worked hard, raised our children, worshiped our God, and have grown old together. Yes, we are the ones some refer to as being over the hill, and that is probably true. But before writing us off completely, there are a few things that need to be taken into consideration.

In school we studied English, history, math, and science, which enabled us to lead America into the technological age. Most of us remember what outhouses were, many of us with firsthand experience. We remember the days of telephone party-lines, 25 cent gasoline, and milk and ice being delivered to our homes. For those of you who don't know what an icebox is, today they are electric and referred to as refrigerators. A few even remember when cars were started with a crank. Yes, we lived those days.

We are probably considered old fashioned and outdated by many. But there are a few things you need to remember before completely writing us off. We won World War II, fought in Korea and Viet Nam. We can quote The Pledge of Allegiance and know where to place our hand while doing so. We wore the uniform of our country with pride and lost many friends on the battlefield. We didn't fight for the Socialist States of America; we fought for the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave." We wore different uniforms but carried the same flag.

We know the words to the “Star Spangled Banner,” “America,” and “America the Beautiful” by heart, and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we sing. We have lived what many of you have only read in history books, and we feel no obligation to apologize to anyone for America.

Yes, we are old and slow these days but rest assured, we have at least one good fight left in us. We have loved this country, fought for it, and died for it, and now we are going to save it. It is our country, and nobody is going to take it away from us. We took oaths to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that is an oath we plan to keep. There are those who want to destroy this land we love but, like our founders, there is no way we are going to remain silent.

It was mostly the young people of this nation who elected Obama, and now Biden, and the Democratic Congress. You fell for the "Hope and Change" which in reality was nothing but "Hype and Lies." You youngsters have tasted socialism and seen evil face to face and have found you don't like it after all. You make a lot of noise, but most are all too interested in their careers or "Climbing the Social Ladder" to be involved in such mundane things as patriotism and voting.

Many of those who fell for the "Great Lie" in 2008 and 2020 are now having buyer's remorse. With all the education we gave you, you didn't have sense enough to see through the lies and instead drank the 'Kool-Aid.'

Now you're paying the price and complaining about it; no jobs, lost mortgages, higher gasoline prices, higher taxes, inflation, shortages, and less freedom

This is what you voted for, and this is what you got. We entrusted you with the Torch of Liberty, and you traded it for a paycheck and a new favorite car.

Well, don't worry youngsters, the Grey-Haired Brigade is here, and in the mid-term 2022 and in 2024 elections we are going to take back our nation. We may drive a little slower than you would like, but we get where we're going, and in 2022 and 2024 we're going to the polls by the millions.

This land does not belong to the man in the White House nor to the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff, etc. It belongs to "We the People," and "We the People" plan to reclaim our land and our freedom.

We hope this time you will do a better job of preserving it and passing it along to our grandchildren.

So, the next time you have the chance to say the Pledge of Allegiance, stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor our country, and thank God for the old geezers of the "Gray-Haired Brigade."

Footnote: This is spot on. I am another Gray-Haired Geezer signing on. I will circulate this to other Gray-Haired Geezers all over this once great county.

Can you feel the ground shaking??? It's not an earthquake, it is a STAMPEDE!

You and I are Members.

Don't Delete. Just Read and Pass it on!

Subject: I just signed this petition – will you?

Federal prosecutors just recommended that Steve Bannon be sentenced to six months in prison and fined $200,000 for refusing to answer questions before the January 6th House Committee. Anyone who put their loyalty to Trump above our democracy and the good of the country by trying to overturn the 2020 election must be held accountable.

I just signed a Common Cause petition to hold Steve Bannon, Donald Trump, and anyone else who tried to overturn our 2020 election results accountable – and I hope that you will, too: https://act.commoncause.org/petitions/anyone-who-tried-to-overturn-2020-election-results-must-be-held-accountable-to-the-full-extent-of-the-law/?source=email&

I received my mail in ballot last Friday and took it to the Post Office and handed it to one of the workers. On Monday, I was texted that my ballot had been received and my signature was verified. Hopefully nothing will happen between now and Election Day to prevent my vote from counting.

Fingers crossed.

So now back to the phone. Although I am no longer shocked by voters who profess that they either aren’t voting or don’t know who the candidates are. Hopefully, my persuasion will have moved them to action.

Fingers crossed.

Thank you again, Dan and Elliott. I wish you Steady was in all newspapers across this Nation. Or available on podcast!
