in their book, “The Constitution in Jeopardy”, Feingold (President of American Constitution Society) and Prindiville (former chief of staff of senate judiciary committee) wrote: “The country may well be on the verge of a new chapter in constitutional history, one animated by the awakening of a long-dormant provision-Article V. Far-right activists have seized on Article V's provision for a constitutional convention as a new route to advance their political agenda.

Their road to success is steep, to be sure. But they have already gained significant ground with little scrutiny or opposition.

This effort should not come as a total surprise, nor should the possibility of claims of a successful application effort and convention call catch citizens off guard. These efforts can be tracked and their consequences foreseen. Yet those who would likely find the results most disturbing including progressives, liberals, many moderates, and perhaps even some conservatives tend to discount the threat. Because Article V has been so infrequently used, and the convention route never successfully deployed, they consider the provision to be toothless, a quirky vestige of a time long ago.”

We seem so preoccupied by the petty power struggles and shenanigans of the GOP that we may not be seeing beyond these smokescreens. The biggest threat is that they might sneakily change the constitution so as to limit the federal government’s powers, curbs the jurisdiction/power of the courts, and turn this into something it isn’t. And we’re here squabbling over the whataboutism of classified documents. Let’s wake up, people!
