Steady means so much. This is important work. You would not be happy without the work and neither would we. Putting a super fine focus on this election is critical. It is much harder to know specifically what to do this year. As one who has campaigned for decades from

Iowa to California, from New Hampshire to Ohio, etc.. My candidate is not on the ballot until South Carolina! Prayer seems as important as anything. You lead and we will follow to celebrate together in November. Don’t worry . You have plenty of support on Earth for your work and the Better Angels are on your side too!

Rock steady; steady as a Rock! Thanks so much, Dan and Steady Team. I'm retired and live alone. Your honest perspective, encouragement, and propensity to NOT DESPAIR are things I love in this newsletter. I gain strength from reading Steady. You make me believe that everything will be okay.

Happy New Year, Dan! You're right, 2024 is going to be the wildest year we've ever seen, particularly with the trump mischegoss. That will be enough to try anyone's patience much less sanity. Steady is an island in this crazy sea of politics, corruption etc., my turn to say to you.. Steady as she goes... balance and ride the waves. You know more of journalistic happenings over the years, and we believe you have one of the best handles on all that's happening. Keep going, we're with you.

Happy New Year! my fellow Americans!!

I hope you all made to this new year in one piece!

In thinking about the remarks by Mr. Rather over his last two newsletters, I had an old familiar thought, "If only normal Americans (like those of us who support "Steady") had a forum to speak on what America needs, to other normal Americans, I think we'd could put into plain words, what many of the "MAGA" people don't seem to understand. And, that's their "delusions of grandeur," by placing a dangerous, corrupt person, like Trump, back into the WH, is, well - SUICIDE! There's a number of reasons that this statement is true, not the least of which is the destruction that he nearly caused the last time we entertained his insanity!

The problem is, we "normal Americans," seldom if ever get to speak directly to our fellow-Americans. But, I was thinking, perhaps, if Mr. Rather, who's respected the world over, would set up such a forum, and convinced the major networks to air it, say on zoom, we could make a positive impact on the thinking of Americans who are now on a collision course with destruction; and, they're going to take us with them, if they come to their senses soon!!

So, if any of you can speak to Mr. Rather about setting my idea up, while there's still time, please let me know.

Thank you all for listening! And, God bless America! Because we're going to need it!

The problem as I see it is that there is no one thing which we could try to discuss with them. How do you respond when you ask them for one thing Trump accomplished in office? Then a blank look and an answer like “lots of things”? It’s the death by a million cuts situation with them. Lemmings!

Rena, I think your idea is excellent. I wish I could speak to Dan Rather whom I admire so much. But unfortunately I cannot. We "normal" people do not seem to have a strong a voice as the MAGA people and other extremists. We need to be heard!

I agree with you. There is no place for extremism in our country. Isn't what the framers wanted to keep from happening in the first place? I believe so. I cannot wrap my head around where we have arrived. But I have faith that our country will survive. If they could birth a nation like ours, with all its flaws, pain, and grandeur, we can keep it safe from those that want to destroy it and the Constitution. Oh Yeah, when needed we have amended that document, and it HAS needed it, greatly so. We have never uttered the words, "do away with it completely. "

But to be a tyrant is to be a person who has a strong fear of failure and rejection. I do feel sympathy for Trump and all his Cronies. That person (the Tyrant) needs to control everything, and I mean everything because "he" craves approval and validation. He does not have control --not really- not in our country, not in any country, it has been proven over and over again. He (or she) lives in fear. -A tyrant's every action in a position of power is to make sure that his or her power is secure and kept safe for him.

I think this sounds a lot like the ex-president DJT and what he wants for his next presidency. He fits every psyche profile on this and a few other negative mental disorders like narcissistic personality disorder and Sociopathy. We cannot let this man become president again. Vote like your life depends on it. It does, your way of like as you know it.

True. But I believe we have a responsibility to keep extremists from ruining our country. When bullies and the brainwashed take charge, it does not end well.Aren’t these folks bored with the”owning the libs” game yet? ( Rhetorical question.)

My heart was not into this year's New Year celebrations, as I fear what's to come. The anger, stress, worry and heartache - it doesn't bear thinking about. But it has to be. I'm an ex-pat living in the UK and the only American I know. The questions/comments/concerns/etc which get fired my way are endless - and, while I'm proud to be an American at the moment, I don't think I can replay the t***p years again. Any advice on how to motivate expats to involve themselves in preventing a catastrophe would be very helpful!

I agree. What’s wrong with Americans that they would prefer to hear bad news from The Abominable Showman than cheer on a capable leader and administration dealing with enormous challenges intelligently despite extremists hell bent on torpedoing them at every turn? Let’s beat the naysayers if for no other reason than to shut them up. I’m fed up with this.

I read a very good article that your New Year’s goal should not be I centered. Instead it should be about making the people around you better.
