It was a crisp and clear New Year’s in Texas, a good day for a walk — but every day I wake up is a good day and a blessing. I have seen my fair share of New Year’s Days, and I can report that this one may be the best yet. Why? Because I enjoyed the hell out of it. Friends, family and football is a holiday trifecta that’s hard to beat.
As we turn the calendar to 2024, the news is never far from my consciousness. We all see what’s going on, as unbelievable as it may be. Like you, I care deeply for our country, our people and our ideals. And once again, those ideals are at severe risk.
In 308 days, we will elect our next president. I’ve spent a good deal of time thinking about this, and here’s my message to you:
For as long as I am able, I plan to keep Steady what it has been: a voice — a small voice, but a voice nonetheless — for reasoned news reporting, analysis and sometimes commentary with as much context and perspective as possible.
It is my feeling, and my hope, that we all realize we have to do something to make sure we don’t lose our constitutional republic based on the principles of freedom and democracy. As long as God is willing, this newsletter is some of what I can do.
As we make the turn into a fresh new year, it’s time we all ask ourselves what more we can do to preserve what is best in our country as we strive, ever strive, for a more perfect union.
It‘s time for dogged focus and hard work, each as we are able; ever mindful that the country, this new experiment in history called America, is at stake.
Now, forward, while holding steady.

Thank you. I have turned to The Steady more frequently and have found that when I post it on FB, and encourage people to adopt your "steady" approach - people who I know have voted consistently GOP are liking it because they are also anti Trump. You keep writing and I'll keep posting and maybe all of these small actions will truly make a difference.
I agree that we all must work together to insure continuity of our republic. To that end, I’m asking everyone I meet or groups I speak to, to email, message through the web site and even write a cursive letter, to President Biden asking him to begin having a biweekly Fireside Chat of course in the style of FDR. Biden is in need of getting his accomplishments across which isn’t being done now.
