What I wish for is for Dan Rather to be cloned. He is the most intelligent, wise and compassionate man I have ever read or listened to. We need a lot more people like him.

I've often thought that American campaigns should be run similarly to those in Great Britain: Everybody gets a given amount to spend to get their message out there, and that's it.

I was truly hoping this 'news source' would be different. I don't see how bashing the Trump's contributed to the issue... other than you just had to get it in there to make yourself feel better. I'll continue my search for another Cronkite where facts are important and you're allowed to dorm your own opinions. Smgdh...

Thank you. I literally haven’t slept for four days. I’m so tired but can’t sleep.

New on Substack, also.

The Saudis have never been our friends, in fact there is strong evidence they had a heavy hand in th 911 attacks, and they wiil more than likely never, ever be our friends and because of our absolute dependence on oil, we have had to "bed-down" with them for far too long. We can no longer afford to sacrifice precious water supplies to fracking, (which should be more than obvious to at least some of the U.S. population by now), thus, here it comes... it is high, high time for a change in our entire approach to "getting around". I know and understand the U.S. loves their vehicles from the muscle cars to the pickup trucks, etc. And, they can be very useful things, however in our day to day going to work, the grocery store, etc. we need to rethink our position, just like we changed when automobiles became ubiquitous and affordable as opposed to taking trains, perhaps we should go back to trains?? What I do know is that we cannot rationally sustain the use of our gas-fuled vehicles in the manner we currently are and not expect to further worsen climate change, gas prices, etc. etc. We need a new mindset, we need to push our current representatives to increase public transportation venues and there are many, many viable options, just look around, at Europe, China, Japan, and many other nations that have been implementing these transportation options for years now. America, it is way beyond time we approach and get on the platform!

I wonder if Biden’s cabinet/advisers have brought this up with Biden. My eyes are now woke! All you’ve revealed is unknown to most. We definitely must break ties with the Saudis and their circle but I don’t see that happening. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer has never been so true in my lifetime.

We have become a plutocracy where politicians respond to the policies endorsed by their largest donors such as multinational corporations owned by folks like Koch, Mercers, the late Sheldon Adelstein, Peter Thiel, George Soros and others. Theeir CEO's generate the profits that enable these large companies to buy influence. Citizens United assures this practice will continue. The priorities of small, family-owned businesses as well as individual constituents often differ from those of wealthy donors. Two examples include the recent bill that caps insulin costs and other prescription costs for those on Medicare. The original bill included those provisions for seniors on private insurance plans, but that was scrubbed by the GOP. Another is Krystin Sinema's refusal to sign Biden's plan that included increased taxes on corporations until the bill removed them from wealthy hedge funds that support Sinema financially.

Will they have played their cards and they throw them on the table so now we know how they stand. It’s a gamble for them and for us, I would like to add that they think they have the Trump card. But there is no wildcard in this deck anymore.

"All this talk of American values represents rank hypocrisy often have pointed to Saudi Arabia as example 1A." 1B includes evangelical Christians who put a bunch of asterisks in the 10 Commandments, Beatitudes, and other behavioral standards in their Bibles to indicate "except for Donald Trump." 1C includes every parent who raised their children to tell the truth and treat others with respect but then support an autocrat who practices neither.

The Biden/Saudi deal reminds me of the time GB Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain returned to London after working a deal with Hitler and proclaimed, "Peace in our time." We always knew it couldn't hold. (I haven't read any other comments to see if others see this too.)

The Saudis are not our friends unless they need something from us.. let's give the Ukrainians the weapons we would of sold to the Saudis and pass everybody off.

Do not use the word "backward." You obviously haven't been to S.A and are showing your ignorance in a racist manner. Would you use "backward" to refer to Hungary?

Just stick to the fact that they should never have been considered "allies" in the first place given their human rights violations and their suppression of women's rights and speech. Our relationship with Saudi Arabia says more about us than them. The Saudis funded madrassas during the Bush eras. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/09/saudi-arabia-terrorism-funding-214241/. We were OK with it when it targeted the Soviets, but if you want to find the inspiration for 9/11, look at madrassas.

Millions of people share that opinion? Prove it. Calling out sinfulness of any kind is a culturally conditioned judgment that the christian right advocates, promotes and imposes on our society. We are human; we are not sinful. Sex is not sinful; our puritan/christian hierarchy has remained dominant despite movement toward secularism. I maintain my original premise that your egocentric arrogance is noxious and off track in the Steady commentary; especially if you are there to promote your own substack.
