I was reminiscing recently about songs that are close to my heart. So many country songs from my younger years pop into my head at the oddest times these days, but I heard one recently from my friend Willie Nelson that reminded me of another time in Texas, a gentler time, and it’s certainly a reason to smile. Back in 1982, Willie recorded “Always On My Mind.”
It’s one of those songs so many people associate with a special moment in their life: a first date, a reunion, or the memory of a loved one long gone but forever cherished. Elvis Presley actually recorded it 10 years earlier in 1972, but Willie’s version became a classic, made it to number one on the country charts and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
It’s been quite a year for Willie. He joined me in the 90+ club. Welcome. A multipart documentary about his life debuted on Paramount+, and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November.
Willie is one of my favorite interviews. We have chatted many times. Here is a clip from our last sit-down in 2016.
I wish my friend luck as he continues to tour around the country. I hope you can catch one of his shows.

Tears in my eyes, when I think of Willie and that song, and other things
You're right... I'm sorry about Iowa...
