I was reminiscing recently about songs that are close to my heart. So many country songs from my younger years pop into my head at the oddest times these days, but I heard one recently from my friend Willie Nelson that reminded me of another time in Texas, a gentler time, and it’s certainly a reason to smile. Back in 1982, Willie recorded “Always On My Mind.”
It’s one of those songs so many people associate with a special moment in their life: a first date, a reunion, or the memory of a loved one long gone but forever cherished. Elvis Presley actually recorded it 10 years earlier in 1972, but Willie’s version became a classic, made it to number one on the country charts and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
It’s been quite a year for Willie. He joined me in the 90+ club. Welcome. A multipart documentary about his life debuted on Paramount+, and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November.
Willie is one of my favorite interviews. We have chatted many times. Here is a clip from our last sit-down in 2016.
I wish my friend luck as he continues to tour around the country. I hope you can catch one of his shows.

The 90+ Club. Such a tribute🫶 Another decade for me.
Thank you both for the joy, wisdom, stories and song along the way.
So many people would still wish to leave the legacy you and Willie have , each their own gifts most unacknowledged.
Fascinating lives .
Enjoy Dan, Willie , one more story, one more song please...
Peace to All , it’s Sunday again, breath deep, rest, and special thanks to those -weekend shift carrying on....
So many Texas treasures, Dan and Willie and so many more. Makes me proud to be a Texan despite all the negatives.
