From all of the negative publicity that they're receiving, this move may cost them more than they hoped to gain. May their profits and ratings plummet.
Lifelong NBC loyalist (75 years) but no more. I am mystified by NBC's decision to hire Ronna McDaniel and can find no benefit to NBC putting her on air, not for viewers, not for her coworkers, not for shareholders, so what is the purpose? I refuse to watch one second of Ronna on air.
As of this morning's news, it looks as if they did just that. There was enough internal flak from MSNBC's journalists and presenters, and some from NBC's own team that they announced her removal. They will now have to pay for their bad judgement, as Ms. Ronna has sued NBC on the grounds of "emotional stress". Someone in management should join her.
Whoa. I canNOT believe NBC hired Ronna McDaniel. Is NBC TRYING to lose credibility? She's not anything to do with "news" at all. She's not a news anchor, journalist, reporter or anything remotely news-related. McDaniel is just another big mouth for the big mouth.
Keep watching those you trust. Keep avoiding those you don't. Chuck Todd took it to 'em. But, no, I'm no fan of Kristen Welker's "PLEEEAAASEEE gimme a sound bite" interviewing.
I usually listen to CBS in the evening. However...they are careful about what they report. They will not say anything about this hiring by NBC. They are probably happy about it....pissing us Democrats off.
Lester is a "both sides" guy. He gives the truth and then counters with the lies. I lost all respect for him after a couple of years in the Trump camp.
Yes, he's not the nice guy people think. He's dismissive of women too. I watch Msnbc. They have some decent anchors. I like Lawrence & Menendez. Ruhle is generally ok too. NBC are the ones that knew about Weinstein at least a year before that story broke & tried to sit on it. They fired Ronan Farrow because of it.
Easy fix. NBC has now been removed from the custom channel lineup I created on my Smart TV. They haven't had anything worth watching for years anyway, so now, at least in my household, they no longer even exist.
Yes but do they still get your fees? They probably don't care whether you watch or not they just want your money. A lot of these packaged Cable deals money still goes to them. When I left Fox years ago I had to make sure I wasn't watching anything where my money went their way. It's not easy!
I dumped cable. Was getting NBC OTA for free. Same for Fox & all the sewage news & infomercial stations. All free OTA. Key word there is "was" for all of them in my house. Shame to see one of the major networks fall to the dark side, but I don't have to watch it anymore. My custom channel lineup is short & sweet. Shorter today.
Over The Air (Free). Awhile back the FCC passed a law that said the major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS & Fox) had to make their channels free to anyone who has a TV with an HD antenna, either old-fashioned rooftop or rabbit ears. There are a bunch of subchannels to the majors, plus all the repugnant news channels like NewsMax & their ilk, plus a bunch of oldies channels. Depending on your area, you might get 40 or more free OTA channels. Go here & plug in your zip code to see what's available in your area: https://www.channelmaster.com/pages/free-tv-channels I actually get better picture quality on these channels using my indoor antenna that looks like Sputnik than I got thru my old cable box. For free!
You can pick up an indoor antenna very inexpensively or get a roof-installed one for a couple hundred dollars (much less if you have a friendly handyman to bolt it to your roof & connect it - it ain't rocket science). Best part about it, it's a one-time purchase. The greedy cable companies can go starve.
Just use mind for streaming and cut the outrageous cable bill years ago. How sad this is of a development, NBC was one of the few local stations I could get over the air, broadcasting from a tall mountain, unlike the CBS affiliate that picked a low hill twenty miles away.
I remember when we only had 3 stations & we didn't even have ABC. CBS was always hard to get, but they always had the better programming. I did appreciate the old way of delivering news...the way Dan Rather used to deliver it. I don't like being spun & I don't like personal opinions either.
I grew up in the Los Angeles area that probably even in the sixties had more network affiliates and independents than any market in the country. When I lived elsewhere for college, there was one local station, a NBC affiliate, a CBS affiliate in a town thirty miles away, and on a good day with the right atmospheric conditions, an ABC station one hundred miles away. Oddly, that was just fine with me, except if there was a major sports event on a network we couldn’t get. This was all pre-cable in a small town.
She was willing to drop ‘Romney’ from her name to accommodate Republican demands to erase her Father. What could she possibly do to destroy democracy more? NBC should fire whomever thought there was equality in bringing in a Republican.
The cowardly and shockingly stupid bozos at the top of the NBC food chain just took a huge steaming dump on what remained of NBC’s reputation and trustworthiness. They are proving that they are not interested in committing journalism, and learned NOTHING from CNN’s similar epic fail.
There need to be several very high-level, public firings at NBC to have any hope of redeeming their reputation. The stupid is VERY STRONG with these morons.
NBC has made a dreadful error here. And they should rectify it soon. Having Ronna Romney McDaniel on a national media outlet that pretends to offer the truth to its consumers is outrageous. I have taken NBC and MSNBC off my radar until Ronna is gone. I sent them a missive to this effect, and I am sure that they don’t care. Maybe if millions of other viewers do it as well, they’ll pay attention.
When Mr. Rather was with CBS, he expressed his admiration for the likes of Huntley and Brinkley, Chancellor, Edwin Newman, Tom Brokaw, et al. Today, I look at CBS and wonder what happened. Now when I look at NBC, I KNOW what happened. By the way, contact.nbcnews@nbcuni.com is the email address. I suspect they are inundated. Inundate them more. I might have watched Rachel Maddow tonight. No more. Her network cannot be watched.
Thank you for the contact email. This is what I sent:
“I love NBC News. It has always been my go-to. I admire and respect Lester Holmes and there are other commentators, both local and national, on whom I’ve come to depend.
But, wow. Ronna McDaniel being hired by NBC feels like a slap in my very loyal face. A hard slap! One I cannot see justification for, other than the obvious “we’re in business to make money” reasoning…and that also feels like a big “f-u” from y’all. I am not surprised that McDaniel would take the job, as she is clearly a shameless opportunist with no real moral compass. I am very surprised, however, that what I believed to be the most honest and trustworthy network news program offered her a job. Actually, I’m sickened. Companies placing profit over any sort of integrity is just exhausting.
It would be so nice to see two or three of NBC's real journalists resigning in protest., among them Rachel Maddow. They would be followed by so many viewers...
I thought they ruined their credibility when some right wing billionaires plotted to get the "mouth from the south" the great Ted Turner first drained of his resources (so they could get CNN) & then they kicked him off the board. That was the end for me. It didn't happen by chance...that was intentional. I was appalled by Time-Warner. Then they went on like nothing happened.
What happened was George W. Bush. His CIA father & his corrupt cronies (& Ronald Reagan) have been pushing the media around & have left a blueprint for how to introduce fascism into our government. Their rhetoric was claiming to value democracy as they went around curtailing it anyway they could. Bush Jr didn't even win an election. He didn't win--the SCOTUS interfered in a national election & stopped vote counting. Florida was run by JEB, another corrupt Bush who drained Medicaid &/or Medicare, involved in Iran-contra, the S&L scandal, etc.. Then there were the democratic ballot boxes that were ditched in the woods in Fl. Funny how nobody talks about that anymore. They demanded that we use electronic machines because they had the companies on their payroll. Nobody had the balls to call it out. It was reported, but nobody did anything. The machines would register Bush when you pressed the button for Gore. The despicable republicans took those truths & gas lit the nation by claiming those things were done to reTHUGs & "they" were the victims. The Bush family has bilked our gov't of $Trillions with a T. No media will admit it, nor will they even to take a balanced view of their failed presidencies. W Bush acted like a dictator too & was considered the worst Pres of all time....until Trump showed up. I wouldn't doubt that Bush helped Trump so his terrible crimes could be ignored. More proof that power corrupts--absolute power corrupts absolutely!
MSNBC won't have McDaniel or Romney on, she's only supposed to be on NBC.
I don’t often send emails of this type, but I did use the address you provided to do so this morning. This hiring is not stupid but doesdemonstrate that Trusted News is no longer their banner.
I agree about The Apprentice, but at least that wasn't the news division, which is supposed to have some standards.
Supposed to.
I don't say this for Mr. Rather's benefit, but I grew up with the CBS Evening News, first with Walter Cronkite, then with him. My early memories of getting interested in news involve being mesmerized by Eric Sevareid at the end of the newscast--I couldn't quite understand him, but it looked and sounded important. And then, as time went on, great reporters like Mr. Rather at the White House and so on. NBC had my respect. Granted, the last few years of Meet the Press left me in doubt. But now ....
Agree. I even remember Tom Brokaw from when he was the local NBC affiliate newscaster in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, in his later years as he went part-time he slid further and further to the right, to the point my wife wondered “who wheeled out this fossil?”. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s suffering from dementia now, in any case I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out pro Ronna McDaniel being hired by NBC.
Thanks for adding your 2 cents Dan Rather. You are a trusted voice and it is important for all of us to stand with Democracy at this moment in history. It's important for us old folks, talking to you boomers, to not destroy everything that was left to us by our grandparents and the greatest generation. Thanks again Dan for all you do.
It’s always about the $$$$. NBC is trying to take viewers away from Fox News by hiring her and increase their earnings. Network news executives sold their souls decades ago.
I've watch NBC Nightly News for decades. In the last year or so, I felt like his newscast was sloughing off trump's many crimes and outright disgusting behavior, while over highlighting any misstep of the Biden administration. I'd find myself yelling at the TV while watching. The hiring of Ronna was the last straw. Tonight I watched ABC with David Muir. Didn't yell at the TV once. Our media desperately wants to stay on trump's good side to the detriment of the truth and our democracy. If they had done their jobs in 2015-2016 during the campaign, he never would've made it to the WH. The media is complicit in this and they are repeating the same playbook this time. Shame on all of them.
As one of Trump’s biggest accomplices, Ronna McDaniel belongs in prison. Sure as hell not on tv.
Corporate mentality. Why would this surprise anyone? Values? What else is there beside money and power?
From all of the negative publicity that they're receiving, this move may cost them more than they hoped to gain. May their profits and ratings plummet.
Lifelong NBC loyalist (75 years) but no more. I am mystified by NBC's decision to hire Ronna McDaniel and can find no benefit to NBC putting her on air, not for viewers, not for her coworkers, not for shareholders, so what is the purpose? I refuse to watch one second of Ronna on air.
I feel exactly the same. I looked online for a list of executives for NBC and emailed them and asked them what were they thinking? Figured can't hurt.
If the NBC execs catch enough flak, they'll send Ronna packing along with the idiots who made the decision to hire her.
Exactly. That's why I figured emailing them wouldn't hurt.
Can you share a link to the list
https://executive-emails.com/l-p/nbc-universal/
Yes, let's do anything we can to let them know it is a big mistake. I don't believe there can be two sides if one side is lying. Petitions maybe?
Time to tank their ratings. They must live in a money bubble of uber privilege.
Let's have at 'em. Ratings talk. Ronna walks.
I wish I could belive that but it has never happened to FOX, even after having to pay for lying.
Hopefully it will. Because this is unacceptable and disgraceful.
Yes, I definitely agree. Greed, money , power and ratings come first. Ceo's and corporations who own these networks, don't have a conscience.
that is the truth!
Will advertisers pull out? Dont buy any advertised product on N B C. That is money and power. Write the companies to tell them why.
As if the maga crowd is going to tune in, or listen to anything NBC has to say.
I am more troubled that NBC is normalizing Nazi tactics. This can impact moderate viewers.
Right it’s lose lose except for Ronna I guess
Exactly, Frump with denounce her as a Maga and tell his people not to watch. So how does that improve the ratings?
Now that they have a mega Republican on NBC, who knows what will happen. Only time will tell.
They are joining CNN.
Exactly. No one except for Fox News wants another facist on Television. Hopefully NBC will change their mind. For the record, she won't be on MSNBC.
one hundred percent A FACT
Yes. Along with their minions. All of them.
Totally agree with you, Scott!
Plain and simple, she is a traitor to this nation. Forget NBC, where is Garland?
Garland continues to fail democracy. Biden should NOT keep him after the election.
May be too late then
Yes, I definitely agree with you there. Garland procrastinated on not assigning a prosecutor sooner , on Trumps case.
AMEN!!!
Whoa. I canNOT believe NBC hired Ronna McDaniel. Is NBC TRYING to lose credibility? She's not anything to do with "news" at all. She's not a news anchor, journalist, reporter or anything remotely news-related. McDaniel is just another big mouth for the big mouth.
In the words of Maxwell Smart: "Would you believe a political hack?"
Here, here. You hit the nail on the head!!!
Hard no on NBC with Rona. I don’t support traitors
done with NBC! bummed, cause I really like lester..
damn
Keep watching those you trust. Keep avoiding those you don't. Chuck Todd took it to 'em. But, no, I'm no fan of Kristen Welker's "PLEEEAAASEEE gimme a sound bite" interviewing.
good point...I trust Lester
I am not a fan of either Chuck or Kristen but they were right in stating their opinions.
That’s my dilemma, too!!!
If you have a “dilemma” over boycotting NBC because you like Lester Holt, then ask Lester Holt to sign a petition against the NBC hire of Ronna.

Well, you learn something new every day! I don't have the antenna. Just the internet. But I do have free access to PBS.
Over The Air
I should do that with Faux!!!!!! and the bible stations
In some parts of the country you may not have much left to choose from.
First went the FOX affiliate, then Sinclair's offering, now goes NBC. Soon the smart TV will be little better than a monitor for the computer.
Just use mind for streaming and cut the outrageous cable bill years ago. How sad this is of a development, NBC was one of the few local stations I could get over the air, broadcasting from a tall mountain, unlike the CBS affiliate that picked a low hill twenty miles away.

DONT' FORGET WALTER CRONKITE. HE WOULD NOT HAVE PUT UP WITH THIS BS.

I think we know why Chuck left MTP.

Sent similar letter. Done with them.
👍🏼
This is so sad, that the oldest broadcaster (November 1926) would do this two years before it could celebrate its centennial.
When Mr. Rather was with CBS, he expressed his admiration for the likes of Huntley and Brinkley, Chancellor, Edwin Newman, Tom Brokaw, et al. Today, I look at CBS and wonder what happened. MSNBC will not have McDaniel on
Hope you are right!
They won't have her on, but MSNBC is part of the corporation.
Watching Rachel Maddox on MNBC tonight 3/25 was very powerful.
That does not matter, they still hired her.
Thank you for the contact email. This is what I sent:
“I love NBC News. It has always been my go-to. I admire and respect Lester Holmes and there are other commentators, both local and national, on whom I’ve come to depend.

Do better, NBC.”
Thanks, I fired off a direct, emphatic email to them. As Dan said, what the hell are they thinking?
Just sent them an email protesting the hiring of this person! Thank you for giving up the NBC email address.
Me too.
Poor Rachel. Although I thought she was with MSNBC are they all one group she might change channels herself
It would be so nice to see two or three of NBC's real journalists resigning in protest., among them Rachel Maddow. They would be followed by so many viewers...
Where would she go? CNN ruined their credibility when they presented that mini-rally for Trump that they had the audacity to call a town hall.
No you're right....she's with MSNBC.
Rachel was on point tonight on this issue. So was Lawrence. And I am told Nicole and Joe were too!!
Thanks for providing the email address. I’ve just sent mine and hope lots of other Steady readers will, as well.
Me too!
Thanks for the email address, I sent one stating my thoughts about this absurd choice.
Thanks for the address. I’ve just shared my thought there

I'll go back farther. Nixon sicced Agnew on the media. At the time, Walter Cronkite called it a war on the press. He was right. And it has continued.
