I’ve learned to ignore polling and tune out the media. It’s discouraging that the major networks continue to play “both sides are the same” while feeding us tales of “Red Wave” despite knowing it was malarkey. I get it. They are competing for viewers. It’s about profit for the corporation. It has NOTHING to do with providing news to better inform the public. There must be a better way to educate the masses, but I am not holding my breath.

I have ignored polls since the New York Times totally missed the mark in 2016 and TFG won the election. I don’t think I have ever forgiven them for that.

I also ignore polls. I got rid of cable and don’t watch any news programs .It’s mostly not real news and it can be very depressing.

I know what you mean. But this is not new. Hearst did it in the 30's. We have to move past this nonsense.

Maybe if real history was taught in schools, without bias. And a full explanation of the differences between socialism, democracy, communism, Marxism, theocracy, and authoritarianism. Convincing parents will be the issue unfortunately.

What a novel idea, teaching kids important stuff, even econ history which makes the historical failure of Marx's mid 18th socialism theories clear, and simplified pragmatic econ. It would also be important for Econ PhD's to acknowledge belief in inflation should not be faith based but based on the empirical evidence of price gauging and profiteering and the underlying raison e'tre which is sociopathic greed and the fact that oligopolies engaged in basic needs, like big oil, pharma, food and multifamily apartments, do not have to maintain or improve profit margins no matter what.

Remarkably the Trumpistas are giving us a rerun of some of that bad history they want to hide. It might be interesting if there was of poll to find current attitudes towards the Jim Crow era/police state.

A-M-E-N, Kevin! Exactly!

That is just an excellent comment and I could not agree more. Real history is far more interesting and informative than the white-washed and regurgitated version.

Exactly! And sadly there is a move to ban anything that might make America appear to be anything but THE BEST COUNTRY EVER! How do we become the best if we don’t acknowledge our full history?

History is so often written, taught and employed for propaganda purposes. It is formed like religious doctrine or dogma: colorful and persuasive and with a tribal intent. One has to draw from a range of historical sources to get an authentic accounting - or close to an accurate gist - of the past.

Well said. Good history is exciting and thought-provoking in a way that propaganda history is not. For one thing, it's complicated and nuanced. Not obvious white hats.

We won't and we need to understand ourselves better. Plus, real history is fascinating. Some really dark spots, but also some pretty triumphant ones as well. You couldn't write copy this good.
