Of course he conned them. It is who he is.

$40Trillion:

= $116,618 per person

= $246,644 per worker

Current 112% of GDP is just above the prior peak during WWII 106%

The recent BBB bill passed by Republicans solves no problems and instead accelerates US to bankruptcy. Good news is our President has bankruptcy experience ;).

And by the time that bankruptcy comes someone else will be in office. And if there are any Republicans left at the time, they will of course claim that if a Republican was in office they would have managed the money better than this. It's an easy sell, as most voters have short memories or don't study history.

“Democrats share some of the blame, as does an aging population that is entitled to expensive social programs…”

Seniors EARNED that social program. We PAID for it out of every check we earned. Social Security is not some FREE PROGRAM that seniors are given.

Social Security is an investment we made throughout our working life, to be paid back to us in our senior years. We are not TO BLAME for a damn thing!

Get it straight in your head. Social Security is NOT some free benefit program.

Well if one didn’t buy into his lies and bluster thank goodness!! Unfortunately not enough voters did so. And now….we’re faced with this nonstop nonsense and irrational behaviors and robbing this country of natural resources, money, defense……it just goes on. 😵‍💫😩🥴

Did anyone notice that the author blamed part of the debt on an aging population entitled social programs? Pardon me, I am 73 and I put thousands of my own dollars in social programs that I am supposed to get back without any interest paid by the government on my loaning them my money.

And who do we pay the debt to? He spends government money like it is his own! He has been bankrupt so many times that he has no idea what he is doing or what money is. $900 million, or is it billions now, on a ballroom? A helipad in front of the White House? Gold all over the Oval Office? Then he is letting the millionaires pay less taxes than us? Then wanting to take away our SS? That is OUR money, not the government's! Taking SNAP benefits away from low income families! But he never talks about doing anything to get the rich to pay more. If you aren't rich, he doesn't care what happens to you!

A six-time bankruptee has no business being in political office. I have never voted for him and never will, even if his name is the only one on the ballot.

Jan's avatar

I never have and never will either! I had a bad feeling when he first came down that damn elevator and announced he was running. I have good intuition and apparently it was right on right from the first moment!

If Trump ever tells the truth, it is by coincidence. He should be in prison for the rest of his life, but this will probably never happen.

Jan's avatar

That doesn't mean he will live forever. I thought he had a sentencing that was due when he gets out of office! Oh wait, the judges are all Trump appointees now. I can't help but wonder how this will all end!

So, this enormous debt now rests on the shoulders of working and retired Americans, and the wealthiest Americans pay little or no taxes. Yes, I remember Trump saying that he would wipe out the debt in eight years. Another one of his lies. Whoever is elected next, or assumes the presidency, have their work cut out for them. They'd be wise not to make any promises they can't keep!

Thank God, you have NEVER stopped serving the people!

There are insufficient accolades for what you and the expertise you use to do it. Am I a fan: yup, ah iz!

You remind me that the "NEWS" is not a TV show, but a SERVICE. You sir, have never stopped serving. How many inept ways can a news host lead a show that is mostly devoid of service and concern? Do they mean well? uh, well mostly. THIS Substack post has just proved my point. Instantly I am informed and uplifted, not entertained. I'm given the crux of an issue and have become a better informed citizen, AND VOTER.

I'm a registered Republican, btw. I often think we should have sweat shirts with graphics displaying "RINO and loving it", and possessing certificates, etc. Had Bernie Sanders won at the convention, this 'RINO' would have voted for him. But ALL is not lost. We do have much more American great qualities that are running strong in us all. This stuff we're made of, can not be erased even by the 'renter-in-chief'.

For building us up, I THANK YOU, MR. RATHER!

Bankrupting an entire country is just collateral damage for the Confidence Trickster In Chief. He has had a lot of practice-my understanding is that he bankrupted every company he ever ran. Regime change, anyone?

Thank you, Mr. Rather, for making these enormously large numbers comprehensible to everyone. The problem is that the rethug party pretends to be concerned about the deficit only while the Democrats are in the majority and/or in the White House (which will no longer be the White House). It's only when they rule all three branches of government that the deficit is of no importance, in the same way that affordability is an "invented" word, that paying more at the pump in pursuit of a lost war no one wanted to see started is inconsequential, that depleting the work force through a Nazi-type immigration-deportation policy means "protecting" the public through shooting protesters dead.

A truly frighting post Dan. What will it take for everyone, besides your readers, to wake up? I shudder to think of what's ahead of us.

This whole thing is sickening, and I think the worst part of it is half the stuff "HE'S" spending money on are is vanity projects!

Shirley Wise's avatar

You have made a very complex situation understandable for those of us can’t comprehend the amounts of debt (and graft!) that we are experiencing! How can we afford ballrooms, victory arches, and golden statues? Is this what destroyed the Roman Empire?

I hope the folks who so incorrectly thought of trump as a great businessman have learned the truth. He’s a terrible businessman and horrible president. A miserable failure.
