We do not need summer soldiers and sunshine patriots to save the soul of Democracy. We need ordinary voters of all parties to recognize that President Biden has held the country together for two years despite diverse and traitorous elements intent on overthrowing the government. These traitors to democracy do not represent most diligent citizens and immigrants, or their children, who just want to be left in peace, to run their own lives in a way that best meets their needs and does no harm to others. Too many Americans and non-Americans still do not recognize that both Biden and Congress are working tirelessly, mostly in a bi-partisan way, to benefit all Americans. Biden and Congress do not care whether Americans like them or hate them, they are still going to do their best by enacting positive legislation that benefits all people, both citizens and non-citizens, and regardless of the strident cries and conspiracy theories of a dozen rogue Congresspersons to the contrary.
Ordinary citizens, like you and me, can honor and respect their public service, even while disagreeing strongly with the specifics of legislation passed. We can and must do our job by making sure we vote for the candidates who will work across party lines to enact legislation that serves all the people in the United States, not just the private interests of the few. Whatever your party affiliation, VOTE AS IF DEMOCRACY DEPENDS ON IT.
You are so right Dan.. Everyone does turn their head and he doesn't even get a slap on the wrist for all of these crimes he's committed since he's been in office. And he knows it and expects it! What amazes me, in addition to the obvious narcissistic traits, is that he is just a DESPICABLE HUMAN BEING! And yet some seemingly "good", somewhat sensible people still follow this man, ignoring this fact! Unbelievable!
As if that weren't bad enough, the stress in our lives is attacking our health. Our bodies are healthy when stress hormones are decreased and oxytocin is increased. Stress hormones prepare us for fight, flight, or freeze. They reroute blood supply away from organs not vital to survival. In the case of birth, blood is taken away from the uterus to go to muscles and brain to help us escape. Oxytocin can be raised as easily as singing, laughing, hugging (for at least 15 seconds), staring into the eyes of your pets (raises human + pet oxytocin), walking, dancing, and so on.
I don't know if all autocrats know this and use it to their advantage.
Dan Rather is accurate and perceptive in his observation & analysis of the defective person known as Donald Trump. However, perhaps more focus needs be paced upon his enablers, without whom Trump would have been stopped long ago. It also does not matter, that these docs are classified or not. If they are related to national security, the Espionage Act has no clauses about classified docs, only clauses about handling of these docs. The Orange One can still go to prison for decades on all of the docs he stole, regardless of if they are classified.
Truth is I knew that tRump would be bad, but how do you prepare for this bad. He is the spoiled indulged child that finally someone has to deal with , all of us.
Totally beyond comprehension to a Kiwi, how he continually gets away with it! Following latest events with interest. Saw the pics loading the plane with cartons to fly north. If this really was the Trump plane heading for his northern golf club home, why hasn't there been an outcry and search of his other residences? So many empty folders!
