I loved the cloud iridescence picture. Inspiring and majestic. We took a cool picture June 17 of a 22 degree sun halo. We tried to post it on Steady but were unable to figure out how to do that. If anyone knows how to post a pic, could you possible reply with step by step instructions? We would love to share this picture. Thanks so much.
I'm old enough to remember watching your reports from the battlefields of Vietnam. Back then and ever since I have always enjoyed your honest evaluation and reporting. Thank you, Dan, for all these years of service to the people of this country.
The world is so full of a number of things that I'm sure that we all should be happy as kings(or queens). That bit of poetry came to mind as I read through your tweets. It is so easy among the conflict, doubt, and despair to forget or look over the beauty and humor of the world in which we live. Thanks for the reminder, Dan.
I think of a week on twitter as being a great success! I enjoy reading your twitter feeds and the comments. The days of Vietnam were overwhelmed with protest for stopping the non-war. These days there are protest for stopping another civil war in our own country. Nature is continuing to tell us of a wobbly moon and high tides to come, to the beauty if ice crystals above the cloud, to be concerned that beauty is deceiving.
Loved the "don't piss on my boots and tell me it's raining" line! Still can't fathom how so many people can believe in the Big Lie, so I agree that it is laughable until considering how dangerous it is. As is viewing the world through such a narrow lens. Your hopefulness is stronger than mine and so needed. Interesting photo from earlier times, and a "wow" for sharing the cloud iridescence as an example of the beauty of nature explained by science.
The idea that Donald had a Constitutional Right to lie from the WH more than 30,000 times, that the lie factory that is Fox cannot be stopped no matter the number of dead, and no matter the danger to our Union, that somehow We the People just have to sit back and take it as our "Congress" runs roughshod over Justice to the point they even get to decide if they have to pay for all they let happen, that our "Supreme" Court can shred our Constitution and hand it over to Putin... is b*******. Shame on America. Totally. Shame on America. 😒
Shame on the legislators and administrators who could have stopped some of the atrocities. And shame on those voters who are not demanding better conduct and actual compromise in working for our nation.
If a person does not wear a mask, is said person willing to be accountable for paying hospital bill, home care, furneral and other sundry expense. Plus all expenses other people’s covid-19 expenses because they received the infection from original person.
As a retired educator ( classroom teacher 11 years, principal 27 years, currently adjunct professor), everything we are witnessing tells me we must do a better job of educating children. Differing viewpoints are one thing, and it’s good to have in a democracy. But when those viewpoints deny truth and twist facts into lies, we are in danger. Our democracy is in danger. Education can and does help. Sources have to be investigated. Statements researched. It’s our job to do this as citizens. And that’s what we must teach to the next generation.
I know it sounds very callous, Dan, but perhaps it’s best if nature takes out that part of the population that scoffs at science. Aren’t we all better off without people who can’t tell fact from fiction, truth from lies? People who lack the critical thinking skills to realize that SCIENCE brought us essential things like antibiotics, automobiles, and SOAP… again, very callous, but such people shouldn’t be allowed to breed.
Well, yeah...I suppose the mentality of "let God sort 'em out" has some validity. A part of me has gotten highly impatient with science deniers of every ilk. Not just anti-vaxxers, but climate change deniers as well get on my last nerve. Problem is, at least related to climate change, the people with the money and the power (and political entities!), the very ones contributing to factors accelerating the warming of the planet remain unconvinced. So the rest of US pay the price. With anti-vaxxers, the BIG risk in just letting them all get sick and die is the very real possibility that the virus can once again be given a chance to mutate, even possibly mutating into something that will get around the vaccines we have. Then we ALL could be threatened once again. Dr. Fauci has said as much: the more people remain unvaccinated and get sick, the greater the chance for the virus to mutate. The anti-vaxxers thus become a threat to us ALL. This also is part of the reason why it is so important to help get as many people as possible vaccinated in other poorer countries around the world. The Delta variant was what mutated from the virus in India (the Lambda variant is from South America/Brazil, I think). When and where is the next one gonna show up? Might it be even more virulent? It is the nature of viruses to mutate in order to survive. People who refuse to be vaccinated are basically inviting the virus to mutate. I pray this doesn't happen, but again, just the idea of "letting them all get sick and die" might eventually come back to bite us ALL in the tuchas.
When I find myself thinking this way (sometimes when watch the evening new and I start talking back to the TV) I remind myself that there would be a lot of collateral deaths when we leave it to nature to sort out the deniers from the folks they infect. Otherwise, I can feel your being spot on. Oh, shame on you, Fred!

Especially when followed by the exhortation to "Get over it" when one mention the January 6th Sedition. Go figure

Put your money where your mask needs to be
Thanks for the reminder that nature can soothe our spirits as we seek to absorb the frightening daily events.
