Mr Dan Rather predicted this 54 years ago on election night 1968: he predicted Trump and additional Trump spin-offs thereafter… Along with Mike Wallace… Brilliant ! (39 :00 minute mark) https://twitter.com/tokyotom2020/status/1581349894144786432?s=46&t=gJkPKuMoOh7PLm8ff7JyQQ

"The rhetoric is the candidate", could not have been more aptly stated thank you so, so much Mr. Rather.

Are our politics hopelessly divided?

Yes--not because of "democracy", but, perhaps "God" does not want to make "god" nor "machine made products"? God make man first and woman. That might be the reason why woman always walk behind man in many countries…

Is there a way for a politician with a message of unity to break through?

Yes, for a short time…

What is the right balance between compromise and convictions?

There is no such a thigh call "right balance"(?), as the "meaning" and "solution" keeps on changing and very much in the eyes of beholder?

Do most people just automatically, inevitably rally around the R or the D next to the name on the ballot? Or not?

Most likely, unless you change the "political system" like France..

As always, thank you for sharply identify those insight and provoking thoughts issues…

She did what they do best, Google. I was interviewed because schools gave no shits about us and ours but bodies piling up in the buildings were more important than our inner city residents health, wellness, consideration and safety.

Why haven't you said anything about Putin blowing up the world with his threats? No one has addressed it as fully as you can. Please say something comforting or otherwise. I do not want to die just yet.

I really am not in the mood to have you disparage me.

I live in NJ now, and I really am more worried about other things. When people upset me it triggers my PTSD from finding my daughter murdered in act of domestic violence. I refuse to allow you to call me liberal, Im a Democrat. I’ve been a Democrat for 40 some years.

Unless you live in S Jersey so stop your petty nonsense.

Leave me alone.

“To anyone who still pretends this is a normal election of Republican against Democrat, history is watching. And I suspect its verdict will be harsh.”

Unfortunately, the verdict, especially with republicans, has been anything but harsh. Instead, they have doubled down on their hateful rhetoric & actually seem pretty proud of it. I’m hoping that at some point in time, justice will prevail & the rule of law becomes the norm again.

I am reminded of the childhood phrase "Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me." I never did believe that. In my experience, words can effect much more damage.

The words, "fire, in a crowded theater", is not protected speech under our Constitution, as defined by our Supreme Court. To use inciteful speech like that is entirely illegal. Why does Trump get to break all kinds of laws?

Is the Executive branch of law enforcement dead in this country? If I as a citizen, acted in one tenth of the ways he has done, I would have been arrested long ago.

Thank you for having such awareness and a good memory. I also felt very early on, after seeing his rhetoric and behavior on “the apprentice” to his students and to co hosts that he should not be on television let alone public office. It was unfathomable the Republican Party would allow him to run for any office on their ticket-beyond belief for the Presidency. We are almost all asleep at the wheel now! We must think of rules and regulations regarding who is fit to serve in public office. It sounds dangerous to say that. But I think before this it was assumed (of course their were skeletons in the closet often) but there was some sense of decency, seriousness and cordiality. That is no longer the case.

What you were aware of so early on appears to me as the germ of a meaningful and necessary means of publicly and

Lawfully excluding people from becoming acceptable candidates for public office.

These deliberations, if they are ever to be accepted or undertaken would require hone rd and longstanding holders and exholders of public office as well as widely respected people from various sectors of life to come up with rules regulations regarding the qualifications and attributes required and comportment necessary for who would aspire to represent the American people in public governmental capacities.

This may not be possible in today’s environment but it is certainly necessary and well worth pursuing, even struggling over if we ever expect to provide a calm respectful even wise arena for our law givers.
