So many thoughts are swirling in my head. Let me just say that the Queen’s funeral so well puts into context the founding of our country. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” The pageantry and excess of the monarchy so well illustrated the unequal world that we revolted against in 1776: royalty, aristocracy, peasantry. I am so glad my ancestors left Europe to come to America. The pomp and circumstance is fascinating to watch, but there is no doubt in my mind that a democratic republic is a better place to live.

I have had a fascination with Queen Elizabeth since I could read and learned about royalty. I read all that came across the news feed and I became enamored with her. The more I learned about this monarch the more I liked and admired her: Her love of horses; her tribe of corgis; her service during WW II; her devotion to her duty and her family; her passion for the people. And, she was funny and witty- nothing got passed her. She was a true model for women, wise beyond her years when she became Queen. Her country, indeed the world, was better for her presence. Thank you Dan, for your beautiful tribute to such a remarkable woman, leader, mother.

At the beginning of her reign she committed her life to her country and its people. I believe she kept that promise and ruled as best she could - I admire her tenacity and longevity in her commitment.

I enjoy and agree with much of your writing. However, you were not Ever a peer to HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

She was Divinely Inspired.

You may have watched Roman Holiday one too many times, you cheeky brat.

No, I am not an anglophile.

No one compares to her.

No one.

"The evil that men do lives long after them; the good if oft interred with their bones" so let it be with the passing of the Queen.

Considering what might be equivalent to "Monarchy" in the United States and I'm drawn to the Constitution as an entity to which those of us in Public Service pledge allegiance.

Thank you, Dan for your, as always masterful and extremely human, remembrance of a deeply loved, greater- than-life figure. Queen Elizabeth was exceptional - an example of elegance, rationality, temperance, strength and progressiveness that served, and hopefully will continue to serve, as an example for us all. May Her Majesty Rest In Peace and may her family and nation find comfort, peace and stability in the days to come as they move forward without her love and leadership.

This ages me. When very young, my family was in Canada. It was when the St. Lawrence seaway was dedicated. Traffic was stopped so a motorcade carrying the VERY YOUNG queen drove past. She was hanging out the window waving at all in the stopped cars. While in the airport there we were pushed aside so a VERY TALL DeGaule strode past. Her death ties me to history. Larry Schlatter
