Well I certainly agree with counselling people to throw some cool water on their hatred for Trump. He is, when it comes down to it, just another mouthy New York street brawler, who happens to know how to work the media (and YOU). The American Left’s elevation of him to Demi-God status is quite fascinating. And it’s JUST what he wants - don’t you know narcissists feed off hate just as much as love? It’s your indifference they cannot tolerate.

But I am curious, can someone explain to me how Trump is to blame for the current threats facing the world and America? Maybe the Iran nuclear situation? That’s the only thing I can think of... Yes, I was quite surprised to read that, because from my view in Australia it looks like it’s the Biden administration that’s fomenting much of the trouble. He’s taken us to the brink of nuclear war with Russia; committed eco and energy terrorism against an ally; goaded China; allowed the position of the dollar as the reserve currency to be put in jeopardy... oh, and he’s managed to piss off Israel by supporting protests against their gov AND lost the respect of the Saudis so much that they are now more friendly to China and IRAN (amazingly). Oh, and your border seems to be a bit of a mess... which will of course exacerbate all the domestic issues.

In Biden’s defence, just how much of this sort of this is done by deep state (ie gov and esp security-state employees that remain regardless of whether team Coke or Pepsi are in the Whitehouse) actors is unclear, and they may well be the same players as when Trump was in power. And indeed, as the author says, those people should examined for any wrong doing.

But though I have no love for Trump, I was confused to see hm blamed for the current threats facing America and the world. Can someone help me out?

This is a fair point, to be sure. It's easy to focus on Trump, I'm guilty of it myself to some degree...but we need to remember everything else that's going on as well.

We need to remember the hundreds of other causes that need to be fought for. There's the scapegoating of marginalized communities across the world, the irrevocable damage being done to the environment and the inevitable harm to human beings that it brings, not to mention poverty and inequality of justice across the board!

Trump is an easy, eye-catching figure. But there's a lot more to keep an eye on, too.

I Agree. I only hope that the indictment has something far more substantive than a "bookkeeping " error. The media just can't help themselves from covering this as it hits the trifecta of sex, crime, and Trump. I hate Trump and fear his diehard base but even I must agree that at this point it looks like an overzealous DA trying to make political points. The Georgia election interference case should be the case he is indicted on. Now that will look like piling on.

It absolutely looks like political persecution to me. I have no love for Trump but this silly misdemeanour is what you want to break the “we don’t go after presidents” unwritten rule for? Not, say, for George Bush’s war crimes? Or lying about weapons of mass destruction? Not Biden’s highly suspect connections with foreign energy companies?

Everyone who isn’t blinded with hatred for Trump can see this for what it is, and it will fail because they are grasping at straws. And it will make a martyr of Trump and the Dems are damn fools for this desperate attempt if you ask me. And it’s so damned overtly biased - Hillary got off for the same charge with a quiet fine (actually it was a worse charge, because she actually used campaign finances to fund a legal team to concoct lies about her political opponent [Steele dossier], whereas Trump used his own funds to pay for silence).

It’s also so damned biased because look at the lengths the democrats went to protect Biden from the Hunter Biden Laptop story. As well as warning the social media platforms to censor it, they had the Aspen Institute war-game/role play with the media what to do should such a story get out. All Trump did was pay someone to keep quiet to protect himself.

You look like a Banana Republic from the outside (I’m in Australia), I can tell you. And I am def not the only one who sees it that way.

Amen, amen, amen and well-said, Dan Rather. They need to treat Trump's indictment as par for the course news item and not a 24/7 relentless news cycle. We need to know aboiut pertinent other news and follow. Vice President Harris has traveled to Africa countries on important diplomatic mission and mainstream ignored. Thankfully, my overseas friend alerted me so I was able to follow.

I’d say the mainstream media prob ignored it because it was pretty embarrassing, no? I mean, anything with Kamala is pretty embarrassing, because her inauthentic giggling is awkward and kind of disturbing. But more importantly, it was embarrassing because Africans quite rightly pointed out that the USA has killed many of their leaders and meddled in their politics, and then has the gall to go there and lecture them on democracy?!

Some choice examples of Kamala’s reception:

The USA might do better to try and woo the African nations, like China and Russia are doing, rather than lecturing and threatening.

Mark Twain is quoted to say “It is easier to fool people than it is to convince them that they have been fooled.” This a truism because people don’t want to believe they are fools and they cling to their heroes until the betrayal hits them personally between the eyes. Most Ponzi scheme victims are oblivious to their situation and completely certain of their financial management’s honesty until the money completely vanished.

Agreed, but what are you referring to here?

The ongoing support for Trump in spite of the vast and growing evidence that he is a con man and leader of an organized white-collar crime syndicate. In the past political figures would have resigned from politics in humiliation with just a hint of a fraction of Trump’s record but his cult of fools defies all logic or precedent.

Expand full comment

Hang on, what’s this organised white-collar crime syndicate you speak of? First I’ve heard of this and I’m interested. Links with evidence would be especially appreciated.

I think the latter of your statement could just as easily apply to Jo Biden... I mean they had to have the Aspen Institute war game with the media what to do if the Hunter laptop story broke, it was that bad a look (not Hunter’s personal stuff, but his Dad taking money from chinese companies is obviously a national security risk). But I’m very interested in what you speak of re: Trump?

Expand full comment

The what-about-Hunter Biden mythology is the same kind of conservative mutual masturbation media circles as Benghazi and Hillary’s emails, after years of false accusations nothing actually gets proven. In the meantime, there have been convictions after convictions for the Trump Syndicate’s henchmen and front men, and Trump used executive privilege to obstruct further investigations and Presidential pardons for his clan while he could. But many of his own sycophants are now the primary sources of information for his tactics of money laundering and tax evasion. Of course any long term organized crime boss has a legion of lawyers and accountants who strive to maintain the appearance of legitimacy and maintain a wall of fall guys who take the legal heat in exchange for compensation and a promise of pardons, but when the possibility of pardons are no longer on the table dominoes fall. For the TOCS, the dominoes are only just beginning to fall. Yet to be publicly investigated are the private conversations between Trump and Putin in which Trump refused to document and had the translator sworn to secrecy, contrary to proper diplomatic procedures. What promises or deals were exchanged without any record?

I will go to the effort of finding you some links to show my evidence if you say you will actually look at them? A good starting point for Russia Gate Hoax is Aaron Mate’s work.

Expand full comment

Do you have any evidence of these supposed Putin calls or is this more Russia Gate Hoax. You do realise that it was a hoax, don’t you? Proven fact. There was never any Russian collusion at the 2016 election- Hillary paid to have it made up.

As to this crime syndicate you speak of, you made only vague accusations that sounds to me like you just assume he’s a crook, rather than having actual evidence. Show me evidence and I would happily believe it, but I’ve yet to see any. I’ve seen plenty re: The Big Guy (Biden) and Hillary.

Expand full comment

Ah, is that how you Dems justify this. I was wondering how you justified the Biden laptop and Hillary’s emails and her creation of the Russia Gate Hoax.

You mistake lack of accountability for the Democrat’s crimes and unfair persecution of Trump’s associates (to do with the Russia-gate hoax) as signs of actual culpability, rather than as the signs of what they really are - that the USA has become a banana republic. The law is NOT applied equally to both sides. This indictment of Trump is one such example - Hillary did far worse than he (used actual campaign finance to fund a legal team to create the very false Russia gate hoax against a political opponent), but only got a small fine. Trump used his own money to pay someone to keep quiet. Biden made sure to pardon her for everything as soon as he got into office, of course.

There is documented proof of the Democrat crimes, I’ve seen many of them. I’m not defending Trump so much as pointing out your bias - may be you know more dirt on him, but I can tell you the Biden laptop is no myth, neither was all of Hillary’s many wrong-doings. Trump may be bad, but your top Democrats are JUST as corrupt, and their weaponisation of the justice system makes them more so.

CNN -Among the crimes Bragg said his office would not prosecute: marijuana misdemeanors, including selling more than three ounces; not paying public transportation fare; trespassing except a fourth degree stalking charge, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration in certain cases, and prostitution.

Misdemeanor offenses that are legally required to be given a “desk appearance ticket” will be offered diversion or community-based programs intended to help an offender, the memo said. The office may also decline to prosecute the offense.

Does anyone think Bragg would fail to prosecute Trump if he resisted arrest? Or came on a bus and refused to pay his fare? Or showed up smoking weed?

Bragg has bragged that he sued Trump over a hundred times. Does that sound like anything balanced or apolitical??

The left claims to worry about democracy but I fail to hear anything about this attempt to take down a political opponent on some joke of a charge that we don't even know what is. Welcome to the banana republic and that implies.

You are a Republican, trying vainly to justify your support for the Trump family and the completely corrupt Republican Party, which sold out to the evangelical christians years ago. I did not capitalize "Christians" as most evangelicals do not follow the teachings of Christ.

I am not a republican, I am an independent and mostly conservative. I have not sold out to evangelical christians, either. I also do not support Trump anymore than I support using our legal system dishonestly (weaponizing our legal system) to try to eliminate political opponents.

Speaking of corrupt, anyone who is honest would see that the democrats, especially the current ones in power, are the most corrupt our country has EVER seen although both sides are filled with corruption, which is why Trump is dislikes by both sides.

I suppose you think only democrats and YOU obey the teachings of Christ??

I love the quote of one our the great philosophers, Carl Sagan : “One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.”

It’s funny because I watch from outside both your ridiculous political parties and see that quote applied from each side to the other. I’ve heard those so many times recently - both the quotes you posted. And all are right - both teams are so blinded to the corruption and swindles of your own team. But it seems to me that the American Left live in the bigger unreality bubble, nowadays. Sure, some on the Right have their magical thinking, but the Left keeps their head on their shoulders but believing in a reality that is extremely warped.

What does anyone learn in an echo chamber? Nothing. They just hear what they want to hear and that is part of the problem here in the good old USA. So much of what has been going on many of the left do not even know because they get all their news from their echo chamber. It is so bad that when they hear some of what is really happening, they simply don't believe it. Literally. "That can't be right, I didn't hear it on CNN or in my echo chamber so it must be fake news!!"

Agree that news orgs must continue to shed light on all the important issues we face, one of which is domestic terrorism which we do not hear much about. It's especially important now because Trump, in panic mode, is trying to incite another Jan 6 or worse. Does he realize that threatening a law enforcement/elected official is against the law? But, one of our biggest threats comes from another source right here at home: The Republican Party. Watching hearings dominated by the likes of Lauren Boebert who was fixated on public urination in DC when we had just had another mass shooting, shows (if we needed more proof) of how the party is controlled by those who care nothing for leadership, dealing with legitimate problems, or working for the good of the country. It's sad to say the truth that the GOP is now working against the country. We must not let them win.
