Spot on. Nothing to add.

Well, Kevin McCarthy managed to do what was needed - for 6 weeks - and, of course, earned the ire of the extreme idiots in the House who are not interested in the good of the country nor of orderly conduct of the government. Dan and Eliot, please keep people awake and aware of the fools that have been elected to do nothing more than destroy this country by keeping it in chaos.

1) MoscowMitch is only annoyed because he wanted to get credit for SCOTUS and wreaking havoc in our country and now cheetolini has stolen his legacy. 2) Republicans are cowards, full stop. 3) Reagan gave us what we're experiencing now. He wasn't a warm and fuzzy republican, he was just a republican. What we're experiencing now is FASCISM. Say it with me kids, F.A.S.C.I.S.M.

Consider what Reagan wrought and his crimes, and to think how popular he was? Is it no wonder that tump with all of his crimes and stupidity is popular - at least with toooo many Americans including Putin.

I come at this situation with the eyes of an outsider.🇨🇦

Would someone please explain why the US goes through these gyrations every few years?

How does a government run out of money?

Why doesn't the system continue on until such a time as budgetary matters are cleared up and legislation is passed retroactively to authorise previous expenditures.

Westminster governments issue Orders in Council to cover payments until such a time as spending bills are passed and the money is authorised.

Even my Condominium board operates the same way. The board can authorise payments for unforseen expenses and at the next meeting seek approval for the expenditure. Contractors are paid, work is performed, life continues peacefully.

The US system seems broken and chaotic; isn't anyone going to fix it?

Nail on the head Dan. Now to get the mainstream media in line to point out all the Republican party is and is doing just as much as they beat the drum about Biden, how old he is, etc.

The media and Comey were responsible for the direction of the 2016 election. It cannot do the same in 2024 or we will be destroyed.

How have we reached this juncture? The intensity of animosity toward the government and its institutions, as well as the polarization towards 'the other', coupled with the adulation of a demagogue—what can we point to as the cause?

In respect of the CA Senate seat, Newsom should resign as Governor, have his replacement, who would be the first woman in that seat, appoint him as the replacement, and then take a cabinet job in the second Biden administration. All this would position him well for a Presidential run in 2028.

House Democrats need to join with a few Republicans to replace McCarthy and get back to business.

McCarthy is weak, a title means more to him then governing for the American people.

There is no need to have a government shutdown. Extremist Republicans aren't interested in governing for the people. Their agenda is to governing for Trump.

Maybe having a government shutdown will wake Trump voters up, when they don't get paid.

We must stay united and network with others in your community. Volunteer if you can. We have a tough fight ahead. With determination, nothing is impossible.

Thank you once again for your truthful analyses of our very critical situation. We’re one presidential election away from losing our democracy and our country. Why republicans can’t figure that out must be because they HAVE figured it out and authoritarian is exactly what they want. I hope you and Elliot continue to write these pieces

There was a debate two nights ago? Wasn’t that the premiere of Survivor night?

I could not watch the whole debate… couldn’t stomach it! I did see highlights, though, and I believe the Oscar should be shared by the two South Carolina candidates who tried to be nasty with each other, but could not keep a straight face.
