I am a former Dem now an Independent due to their moving too far left.

I live in Ohio. How can I effectively fight the Right in a state where the Dems are the gang that can't shoot straight?

Don't forget 2008. How would you like to turn up for work and find "DOOR CLOSED" --- and "GET LOST" on the door you've been faithfully entering to make your payments and feed your family for most of your adult life? WHERE WAS THE MEDIA WHEN THAT HAPPENED??? Trump said it when he won the Presidency: "I saw the opportunity"...

DAN! Pray to God the media doesn't ever fall down like that again. And THANK YOU from my heart for what you're doing to prevent it.

It is concerning to me how many people I know who refuse to listen, read or watch any news about the political turmoil in our country. I do understand that all of us need to have normalcy in our lives and not allow ourselves to become obsessed. But these same people who refuse to pay attention to what’s happening in our country are dangerous to our democracy. My republican friends who refuse to pay attention think those of us who are concerned are making a big deal about nothing. They don’t see Trump or as a threat to democracy, he was able to get them what they wanted - less regulation, the overturning of Roe v Wade, less taxes, etc. Some of my independent friends just aren’t interested in paying attention. If it doesn’t affect them, then it doesn’t matter. Same with some democratic friends, though less so. From reading about dictators, I understand this is what autocrats do when they attempt to take over a democracy - create chaos, division, and bombard people with so much craziness that they just stop paying attention. This scares me as much as the Maga supporters. Citizens who don’t pay attention and then one day when their rights are taken away they wonder how it all happened. I hope people young and older get out and vote, I think there are many people who are not paying attention. I keep thinking that between the rise in gun violence, lack of sensible gun laws and the total disregard for women’s reproductive rights that maybe these people will pay attention and vote to preserve our democracy and freedoms.

Well stated!!

My fervent hope is that reasonable people will reject this extreme agenda that Republicans have embraced.

We must be involved and get out the VOTE!!

It is mind boggling that the Republican party will nominate Trump again. Why isn't he being indicted for his actions leading up to and on January 6?

I was nodding in agreement as I read your post. It's frightening that anyone would consider this person for a second term! He's shown us exactly who he is. Should he be reelected, I can't imagine the damage he would do to our country. I was horrified when he won in 2016 but I didn't realize just how bad it would be. I don't want to find out how bad it will be if he returns for a second term.

An excellent review of the matters at issue in the US, told plain and simple. But it is completely silent on another crucial point. America has a place of preeminence on the world stage that Trump severely undermined in four disastrous years. That the world is a dangerous place is clear, even if mass shootings in the US often displace Ukraine, or even a disintegrating Sudan, from the front page. Trump and his history-ignorant followers only encourage men like Putin, or even the more cautious Xi. The free world cannot really afford another four years of Trump.

So many people reporting and commenting on Donald tRump's sexual assault allegations leave out the fact that young girls, minors under the age of 18, have also accused him of rape. The victims are not only women, but also children.

America has gone from the melting pot of immigrants, looking for and finding opportunities to better themselves and their families to a boiling cauldron of hatred by those who have missed out on the promise of America and are only left with admiration for sycophants who want to tear down democracy. I don’t have an answer on how to reverse this process. Essays epitomized by this piece, need to gain traction to save democracy.

I’ve heard he lost support after 1/6, there was no red wave in 2022 because Americans are tired of what he and republicans are selling and voted against many of those candidate, as sorry as they were. Now comes Gen Z and they are highly motivated to vote for candidates that want to protect women’s rights, the right to vote, save democracy, do something about gun control, bans on books and every other heinous actions republicans have or want to take. I’m tired of the gloom and doom media is putting over our heads. He’s only ahead in the polls because Ron DeSatan’s numbers have dropped significantly. Democrats won all in 2020, kept the Senate in 2022 and since then TFG has been indicted and faces 3 more and I think they WILL happen. So I’m not sure how is TFG a bigger threat than he was a week ago or a month ago. Nothing has happened since 2020 that would make anyone MORE inclined to support him.

I am worried about this next election. I worry if my vote will even be counted because due to circumstances I had to move to a red state. The state of this Country scares me.

And I don’t want to hear that our political media are “obsessed with clickbait.” The transformation of the GOP into an authoritarian, occasionally violent ethnonantionalist faction over the past eight years (I would say 70 but I guess that’s debatable) is a big story! Lots of people would click on it! The reluctance comes from somewhere else.

I’m just gonna put it out there I’m terrified of what’s coming. Politicians are getting away with things I never imagined they could. I’m fearful of what my grown children are going to live through. I never saw this coming. I have three grown boys, men and two of them seem oblivious to what’s going on around them. They are having children without considering what their world will be.

Oh definitely "horse race" is an inaccurate depiction as you eloquently state. One that Joe Biden maintains that we are in the fight for our Nation. Just the mere thought of trump regaining power gives me PTSD as well as grave concern. This election will be the determinant factor in future direction for decades to come.
