So sad to see my native state being ruined by a man in it for his personal gain. I cancelled my birthday getaway to visit my alma mater & friends.

It makes no sense. No one is going to mandate masks for the fun of it. I did not understand why the AR legislature passed the ban or why the Governor signed it. Then the Governor understandably asked that the law be amended to allow local school districts to mandate masks to protect children younger than 12 who cannot be vaccinated. What is the logic of the AR congress in vetoing this? I believe there is now a court injunction against the mask mandate ban.

After reading every comment I see this is group that agrees with the disgusting politics of COVID. I’m a proud native Coloradan with ever third license plate from Florida and every fourth from Texas. The governors from those states are impacting me - my community.

I learned 1 hour ago that a fully vaccinated friend tested positive for COVID. My fully vaccinated household is scrambling to get rapid tests. Nothing available so… cancel seeing Mom, cancel concert, daughter is on a flight she may turn around, son is dating wonderful gal with cancer who he won’t see. So once again it’s the uneducated, highly susceptible conspiracy theorist, selfish, politically juiced fellow Americans bungling my life. I’m so angry. Yes angry because others stupidity has adversely impacted me.

So instead of “making the base” feel uncomfortable, we have Governors spreading hate and the disease.

If you are unvaccinated - you are a breeding ground - providing a host to keep us all at risk. Stay at home if you are not vaccinated, stay away from the general public. Accept your unvaccinated choice and take responsibility which could lead to being inconvenienced and uncomfortable.

People have lost their ability to reason and to think for themselves. Use your head and get yourself vaccinated. That is the only way to crush the pandemic. The only way.

'Tis a puzzlement. I know people who l've considered intelligent all my life who now won't get vaccinated or wear masks. It took 2 years for the Spanish flu to kill 1/3 of the world's population. Are they trying to break that record?

I live in Florida. What is happening here is unbelievable. Hospitals are completely overwhelmed. Our governor is only interested in his political career. I am vaccinated and I feel like a hostage due to UNvaccinated people in our area. We the vaccinated are beyond frustrated. We did what we were supposed to do by following the CDC guidelines for the past year and a half….for what? We are worse off than a year ago because people are ignorant and politicized a health crisis. The stupidity is astounding.

One of our major problems is gerrymandering. These Governors do not have to worry about reelection. So they can act and do as they want. And, obviously, despite what they say about pro-life, etc, they have no feelings about human life. It’s all about them.

If there was a way for a class action lawsuit against media companies like Faux News or politicians, I sure would join it.

And once again, be the good guy behind the mask, love thy neighbor and get vaxxed.

Your column says what's in my mind - that I can't understand why they are doing this. Trying to present a macho image. Who knows. They're playing some game with people's lives and it disgusts me.

Thank you, Dan, for making your point clear. I will follow these two Governors, Gregg Abbott and Ron DeSantis, Texas and Florida must have a measure of safety to protect the people. Why should Ron DeSantis be slyly in governing the people of Florida?

Surely someone in Florida will sue the governor for reckless abandonment, dereliction of duty, and abuse of power. Too many of his constituents are paying with their health and lives for his failure to do right by them.

I think the end game for both of them is this: they are announcing that they are loyal trumpists and they are in a contest to either be his VP candidate or if he doesn't run, they want his anointment for the Presidency. The governor that kills the most citizens wins. They have simply lost every tiny bit of humanity that they used to have.

just wanted to say that I don't often write comments, but I have become a devoted ( but not mindless) reader of your columns. They are vivid, alive, stimulating. They are also very important, and I hope they get the readership they deserve.

Until they're held truly accountable, nothing will change and the unnecessary death toll will climb.

Fellow Texan here. I am so disgusted with Abbott. But my neighbors will keep voting that idiot in. Fox News and the like have ruined America. The "anything Democrats want, we brand unAmerican" narrative has created a sea of hate and distrust. Two of my sons have refused the vaccine and one of those two has three sons. Two are vaccine eligible and one isn't. None have had it. I am terrified for them and keep sending factual information, but am on the verge of getting blocked on all social media platforms and from their cell phones. The one with kids refuses on the political narrative and the other on the false narrative that it will affect his fertility. He didn't appreciate my response of "being dead kills fertility too." My four of my other kids vaccinated and we have had to tell the two boys they can't come visit as we don't want them exposing our other grandchildren. Now with schools starting and Gov. Idiot not allowing schools to protect our kids? This old Mimi is full of anxiety.

Thank you Dan Rather and the Steady Team for focusing on real issues, and not the deflections and "shiny objects" some try to get people to look at instead.

I truly hate that the body count is rising, and that political (seemingly cult) leanings are blowing those numbers up. These are real, life and death decisions. Governors have been recalled for less egregious failings. There is blood on their hands.
