This should come as no surprise given what has led up to it. DeSantis is not alone in sanitizing curricula. Governors who want to give parents the right to have books removed on demand, others who want parents to select principals and hand pick school boards all in the name of protecting our youth. Schools should provide students with the skills to evaluate what they read, in every subject. It is these skills which will empower them to become intelligent, knowledgeable, fair-minded citizens. We cannot erase history. We can only learn from it and use those lessons to make the future better. To deny the horrors of slavery is a travesty, and it should be shouted from every part of our country. It is as unimaginable as it would be to deny the truth of the Holocaust or even the crucifixion of Jesus! Man's inhumanity to his fellow humans has been with us since the dawn of civilization. Our country has always set an example in denouncing the examples in other places. This is the antithesis of who and what we are and have tried to improve upon through the ages. Should DeSantis, Trump or any other of the people who seem to want to deprive us of freedoms long fought for and cherished succeed in winning the next election, it will lead to the destruction of our democracy. People have to speak up now.

Hope your message gets spread far and wide. Your name still has plenty of clout at least in my opinion. We may be aging but our minds are still functioning. So many atrocities occurred within our lifespan; the Civil Rights Movement should occupy a large part of this truthful history while many of its soldiers are still living. Keep up the fight, Dan!
