The drama around a speakerless House of Representatives has come to an end, at least for the moment. But the means by which it was resolved, and what it augurs for the future, offer no reason to celebrate.
I believe that the world is doomed due to social media and AI that has created an information environment where the truth is totally fungible. No problem can be solve unless the underlying facts are agreed upon. It is the perfect environment for evil to mushroom. We are doomed.

Blackmail: I find it curious that the possibility that Trump blackmailed prominent supporters at key moments is rarely mentioned. Given his campaign’s relationship with Russian Intelligence (even acknowledged by a GOP led Senate Intelligence Committee report on the 2016 election) it is highly plausible that those who publicly espoused disdain for him and then suddenly out of the blue flipped into being vocal supporters are being blackmailed. For ex Senator Graham said terrible things about Trump and out of nowhere became his first supporter in the senate. We all know the unspoken reason Graham is an easy target given how he votes against the very community he’s clearly a part of. It wouldn’t take much to flip him. And what made McCarthy suddenly kiss Trump’s ring after rightfully blaming him for the violence on Jan 6th before so many of his colleagues reaffirmed fealty to Trump? There was a small window of a few days where, led by McCarthy, if they’d stood united in their rejection of him, they could have broken free of his “leadership.” What did Trump say that made the man take the knee?
I can't help but wonder if the repthugs have any idea of what they are doing to the country and just don't care or their excuse is following the party line blindly? We needed a speaker of the house, but not that badly and one this especially awful what the hell are they doing? Even the moderately sane ones fell right in line past time to vote them out if we even can anymore.

I just still hope there is a chance Canada can pull back. I do hear rhetoric on supposedly innocuous sites such as ‘next door”, and it is sad and disturbing.
