Vote, and get one more person you know to vote…someone who might not vote without encouragement. The checker or worker at the market, a postal worker, a young person who doesn’t think about the relevance of Dobbs…just one more person.
I find myself dreading this election more than 2016. I sounded off to a lot of TFG supporters back then and it seemed to go right over their head that he was a fool and dangerous to all of us.
Yet today, there's still a faction of his that will never see the truth about him and the Republicans.
The stakes could not be higher. But what drops me dead cold to my knees is that Republicans who only watch right-wing media believe the lies and the hate-filled rhetoric, especially when it comes wrapped in the sheep's clothing of right-wing Christianity. Who would have thought that two lone congressional Republicans, Cheney and Kinzinger, would be the only ones brave enough to shout that the GOP emperor has no clothes and is a crazy, power-hungry wanna-be dictator who should never be allowed anywhere near the oval office again?
Our last hope is that we vote in record numbers. #VoteBluetoSaveAmerica and our own families. It sounds cliche to say this, but we are the ones we have been waiting for. Let's find a way forward together, not one step back.
Mr. Rather, I note, while your exposition of the political landscape, replete with consequences for every potential outcome, is spot on, your analysis does not include what Democratic leadership can do within the next 6 weeks to affect the outcome of the midterm elections. For instance, I would contend that Democrats are obligated to unpack the GOP “Commitment to America” policy goals Kevin McCarthy unveiled a few days ago.
Consider, for example, McCarthy’s comment that the very first bill would be to fire 87,000 IRS agents, underscoring that “we want to work for you, not go after you.” Expectedly, McCarthy neglected to mention that more than one-quarter of unpaid taxes come from the wealthiest Americans, who owe $163 billion in taxes annually. I imagine one reason an understaffed IRS would let the top 1% avoid taxes is because the IRS would lack the personnel to process the requisite sophisticated tax filings. Indeed, I expect were we to take a deep dive into most, if not all, of the GOP’s “Commitment to America” policy goals, we would find they’re designed to meet the needs of the ruling class, not to make the lives of everyday people materially better, more stabilized, and more dignified. Hence, my call for Democratic leadership to unpack the GOP agenda that, in my view, would reveal a party ruthlessly pursuing power for their own purposes and to meet their own needs instead of the needs of the people.
Monday night Rachel Maddow spelled out in urgent terms what the fascist party win in Italy means and what victory by Trump election deniers will mean for us. Her urgency and clarity is what we need to see more of from Democratic Party candidates and leaders. We have one chance, possibly two to save our democracy. This is not a drill. Too many of us are too complacent and too uninformed.
I thought being an activist in the 60’s was more than worth it. I felt at that time we were in a democratic crisis w Nixon et al.
But daily I get the old Yogi Berra “ it’s deja vie all over again” feeling.
I’ve been working since last election with getting college kids registered, voting, bringing friends to vote etc. I’m backlit at it again, and it feels even more important than ever.
I tell them no one should be a 1 issue voter, but they are being confronted with 3 issues
Gun iolence
Abortion rights
Climate change
I tell them, at my age there’s not much that can negatively effect me, but
FOR THEM THEIR DECISION COULD LITERALLY BE A MATTER OF LIFE OR DEATH
They also need to recognize that TOB could not have destroyed as much as he did without the support of most of the Republican Congress.
I’m encouraged by their responses, and their intelligence and their passion.
Hopefully, this next generation can make a huge difference in the direction we go as a country
Seems that if Republicans lose they will claim fraud, file challenges, continue to undermine elections, and if they win we can kiss democracy goodbye. Where is the plus side?
I hope that there is a huge BLUE WAVE. But, doubt it.
Everyone needs to just vote. Any Republican gains will be more losses of a humanitarian future. No social security, no Medicare, more child poverty, less individual, specifically womens, rights, but they’re coming for as many as possible. Oh, except guns. Make sure we can all shoot each other.
Don't count it out. I am still a registered Republican but voting Democrat for most races. After the final count I am dumping the party. Enough is enough.
It's like a horror movie, you cover your eyes so as not to see and peak through the holes b/c you have to check to make sure the worst isn't happening.
Put bluntly, this election is going to be a cliff-hanger.
We must do what we can to get out the vote. Talk to neighbors and friends, volunteer at the polls, offer to drive people without transportation to the polls. This is likely the most important and critical election of our time. It is no time to be disinterested in the future of our country.
I wish Polls could be done away with. In one instance, they give some voters, false hope but in another, it can dupe voters into believing they've lost and do not bother to vote. Every voter should vote like their lives depend on it, because in 2022, it's LITERALLY the truth.

We're going to need a blue tsunami.

We all just have to vote. We can never again afford to sit one out. Ever again.
Which future will we choose--indeed.
Scary, but we can't be deterred by fear.

I am heartbroken we find ourselves at this juncture.
