Nice post, Dan. Thanks for doing one about Christmas music. I'd like to throw another offering into the mix: one of the really beautiful contemporary Christmas choral works out there... and a secular poem too! "little tree", by e.e. cummings, as set to music by Steve Heitzeg:

WOW! At least weโ€™ve got music ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ, the center of my enjoyment and inspiration. Without it? Iโ€™d be lost.

Dear Mr. Kirschner: I appreciate your being candid about your feelings about Christmas. There is not much holy in the world at Christmas besides the Christ-oriented Christmas carols. But Christmas I do celebrate, although not Christianity, as a time when God's Light is born in this world. A time when the Israelis are able to forgive monumentally forgive, a time when Hamas lays down its arms and begins to use its wealth to help Palestinians, a time when the rich part of the world feeds the poor part. A time when we LOVE one another in excess. All this is possible WITH God's Light. And this is all that Jesus ever said. I believe in the Lord Jesus, the Christ.

Thank you for your words Dan Rather. And thank you for the different genres of Silent Night. Music says it all๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

I especially appreciated the Jazz version.

We all wish for peace at the holidays.โ˜ฎ๏ธ

I cherish another Year of Steady and Dan Rather, the voice of reason in a country about to shatter.

I had to laugh at the article when it came to "The music came a few years later, a collaboration with a local teacher and organist, Franz Xaver Gruber." The Gruber I'll be spending the evening with is Hans Gruber as I begin my favorite holiday tradition; the "Die Hard" movie Christmas marathon. You know it's Christmas when you see Nakatomi Plaza and Bruce Willis. Tis the joy of the season for some of us with fractured families. ๐Ÿ™‚ Merry Christmas to all and to all an amazing deep rest.

Thank you Dan for all of the offerings! The first one touches me the most as the first carol I learned, probably at age 3, a little girl with her deeply music loving mother in New York City while her Daddy was "away in the war" and the city was full of color and celebration.
