It has been 25 years since Shania Twain intoned “Man! I Feel Like a Woman.”
That Grammy-winning song, with one of the most recognizable opening riffs, is this week’s reason to smile.
Twain, a Canadian, is the best selling female country artist of all time, having sold more that 100 million albums and counting. I had the honor of interviewing Ms. Twain a few years back. She told me all about how “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” came to be.
“That song came about purely through a musical creative intention. So my producer, husband at the time, had come up with this great guitar riff. And he said, ‘You know, I need you to write a melody and a lyric to this little thing on the guitar,’” Twain explained.
“So I threw out a bunch of things at him. All kinds of things … He kept saying, ‘No. No. No, try again. No. Close. No.’ And then finally I’m like, ‘Okay. What about, “Man! I feel like a woman?” And I sang that part to him? And he said, ‘Yeah, that’s it. That’s— that’s excellent.’”
Twain has barely stopped performing since her debut album was released in 1995. She is currently in the middle of a Las Vegas residency dubbed “Come on Over.” Man, I’d love to.

Dan, thanks. You're right. She's great! Keeping up my hopes that Texas will return from the darkness of Abbott, Paxton, Cruz, and return to the light of George Strait and Stevie Ray Vaughn and Willie Nelson. As well, of course as you recently pointed out, the Chicks! And politically, Beto and Ann Richards!
That got me. What else can be said about Shania Twain. Pure talent, great lyrics and what a performance. Great way to start a week and as another poster said this would be great as Kamala's intro song!!
