Mr. Hodgins

The people you mention unfortunately would probably pass the test. But you only mention the Republicans, while I agree we would all be better off if none of them were in the buildings unless they were visitors , the democrats have come up with some duzzys themselves. The congresswoman who wanted to stop the military from putting 20,000 more soldiers on an island because there total weight would flip the island over onto it's back from the extra weight.

That's why in my humble opinion we need a viable third party so the quacks in each party can be turned out easier. We need the best from all parties not the jerks that they give us.

I agree wholeheartedly with your opinion except for the Republican aspect. Just yesterday in Chicago m, which is and has been a democratic city for generations, the top two will go to a run off. It's both parties. That's why in my opinion we need a viable third party.

Wow, why can't our politicians come up with two solutions like you did. Stop all interest payments as long as at least one payment per year is paid. And that payment can be made with whatever a person gets back in April or May from the state and it federal tax overpayment. I don't see how anyone could argue against that. Yes, I know we paid our loans back but like you said it was a lot cheaper back in the seventies when I went.

I don't understand how president Biden could hand trump, on a silver platter, the high ground. By president Biden not showing up and mayor Pete waiting three weeks trump was given the whole thing. How can the whole administration not get the president there to console and comfort the locals. It's mind boggling. Even his flight to Ukraine was completely overshadowed by this mistake.

Donald,

I agree with you 100 percent. It's tough enough being a child without any extra things society says they should endure.

I hope you are getting better, your writing shows that there was no damage in your thinking, hopefully the physical part is good also.

Thank you for heading straight into the topic of Resisting Despair.

"Action, organizing, keeping up the pressure are antidotes to despair."

So true, and I need to repeat to self every day.

"Mitigate" is the key word I focus on. Just as with the backlash to pandemic safety, life is not all or nothing. (not with 8 billion of us roaming the planet.) But in all things to mitigate that which is causing the problem.

Mitigation action is needed locally, in states, and nationally. The idea of psychological-safety needs to be addressed, as it is what's behind the idea of folks who want to carry a gun 24/7 to feels 'safe'.

What are their fears?...where are their threats (or perceived threats) coming from.

[Yes, we know political party is part of it. But there must be more than that driving the scale of problem]

can they move towns, can they do 'anything' actively about the fear... vs being ready to kill/take another life.

Nikki Haley.

Haley just officially proclaimed her candidacy for the presidential run in 2024. Out of all Trump's appointees, Nikki is the clear front-runner. Well-spoken and clearly intelligent Ms. Haley is impressive. She did hit on several points that were as old as I am. Pointing the Socialism finger at the Democratic party was a poly so overused its relevance has lost its sting, mainly because it has no basis in fact. The problems at our Southern border have been around for decades exactly what plans does she have for fixing them? To blame Afghanistan and the negatives seen during our withdrawal on President Biden is baseless. No one could have anticipated the total collapse of the 300,000 Afghan militaries. Trump started that mess by reducing our presents there from 18,000 to 2,500 service individuals, just prior to the full withdrawal. To me and my limited understanding of world affairs, Ms. Haley is intentionally crowding the Republican field in the hopes of giving Trump the nomination through his standard 30% of the Republican voting block. If she succeeds her reward for the effort will be in Trump giving her the VP position under him on the ticket. That way in 2028 Nikki will be free to run for the Presidency after we've had a good chance to see what she can do. I've been wrong before. The sand upon which we tread is way too "quicky" in nature. If Trump fails to obtain the votes necessary to get his 3rd nomination Nikki will be clear to grab the reins and head for the White House. I personally didn't like her choice in theme songs, "Eye of The Tiger" is very masculine in nature, I would have looked elsewhere. All in all, it was refreshing to hear a Republican stand in front of a crowd of supporters and be positive with respect to her viewpoints. Nikki, Trump is the dirt on our shoes and you very well might be the cleaner. One thing I would love her to clarify, there was an honest election held in this country in 2020. Who won that election? Furthermore, please explain to the MAGA crowd the truth behind the big lie. Do that and she could give clarity back to our election process. One last thought, good minds closed the schools out of concern for public safety. At the time it was a good decision. To find fault with it only lessens our opinion of your ability to hold a position of authority.

It wasn't a literal block because the Republicans could not block anything but ye, they did slow down the process all they could. The final hurdles were the democratic senators demanding things for there states because the Dems could not afford to lose one vote. They all got what they demanded but it out a cloud over the whole thing. If I remember correctly the old saying, you don't want to see how sausage and legislation is made, was proven correct.

I agree wholeheartedly with term limits. But u fortunately it will never happen with the two party system. Unless and until there is a viable third party we will never have term limits. They just won't vote themselves out of a job.

I agree about a test if some kind for ALL federally elected officials. When the Democratic congresswoman said that the military can not but another 7,000 people on the island of Guam because the military base is on the end of the island and 7,000 more soldiers will cause the island to tip over I knew we needed a test.

If people like you and I can be reasonable and talk about our differences it will scare the permanent elected officials. I believe the percentage of "safe" house seats is around 90. We have to change that. And in my opinion the only way is with another viable party.

We came close when Clinton ran and became the only two term president to NEVER get 50 percent of the vote. But our chance went away and the have made it harder then ever.

Except for the shit gun I had the same experience. Couldn't wait to turn 10 so I could get a small game license in new York even though my dad had to sign his name across my license. I didn't care, I got to carry my single shot .22 long rifle. The next big time was 14 so I could get a big game license and carry my Marlin .35 with a 2.5 power scope. Just being in the Adirondacks every year with my dad and brothers was something I looked forward to all year.

Back then in the 60's there was a lot less mass shootings. Until Columbine High School the only one I can remember is the ex marine who barricaded himself at the top of a clock tower in, I believe Austin, Texas.

As to restricting people's right to acquire a gun, that is a tall order. The committee you talk about is a great idea, one I've had but did not explain as well as you. This committee could come up with possible solutions that hopefully a majority of our citizens can agree on. But limiting the right to own a gun, that will take a lot more.

2/3 of Congress and 3/4 if the states. It's a real tall order. But if enough people want it it can be done.

Mr. Hodgins

I can't agree more. That's is also why I want a viable third party. In my opinion if there was a viable third person to choose from I believe the extremes on the right and left would be marginalized

The world is looking pretty dowdy lately, eh? Vengefulness is rampant (and grossly uninformed), so it seems here in Kern County, California. What are the preachers telling people these days ~ anything about compassion? Fair play? Living healthfully and letting others do the same? Media seems bent on "going the max" as one script writer told me he was directed to do. Ugly media impairs one's immune system. Inspiring, good humored, truly enjoyable media greatly boosts the immune system. Like this Steady here.
