TO RALPH NADER DETRACTORS: If Democrats had wanted Nader's votes, Democrats could have made him their presidential nominee. Rather than trying to squelch freedom of speech, the US could implement ranked voting. Then no one could be considered a "spoiler." He is one of the smartest, most courageous Americans of this country's history. I am honored to have shaken his hand on two occasions.

Thank you Mr Rather for the article about Al Gore. I for one will never forget Al Gore

And all the repercussions that developed after the USSC made the vote to stop the count. I worked on Al Gore’s election. Your words meant so much to me.

Yes---NINE YEAR TERM LIMITS for the Supreme Court!! Why? Because <nine years> guarantees that a DIFFERENT PRESIDENT will be nominating the replacement!! Term Limits for Congress? As I think about that----that too might be a good idea? Voters tend to get <latched on> to a favorite----like Ted Kennedy---or Lindsey Graham----and then name recognition keeps them going! But---it DOES seem unwise! No politician is <so good> ----that we benefit from that <same personality> for years and years and years! Maybe limit them to TWO TERMS----then done!! Also---no lifetime salaries!! AND----make Lobbyists or Lobbying-----ILLEGAL!!!!! (so simple)!

One of them is a man, the other is a malignant narcissist much like Stalin. Democracy and malignant narcissism are incompatible.

I am proud to say that I voted for him and that I shed tears for my country when he lost. If only!

Listening to him made me cry. A person of the highest caliber. We all let him down.

Bill Alstrom says it exactly right.

Was not the Gore Florida debacle operated by the same lawyers and party people who are still operating today to control our democratic process of elections. I believe the Gore debacle authenticated by the Supreme Court's decision was America's first Coup. Jan 6 is the second.

Can anyone forget the absolute silence in New York City on the day that the Gore decision was announced. The shock of that day remain vibrating in my memory to this day.

Gore showed us the difference between a good man and a spoiled ugly manchild!

Again, a great piece, Mr. Rather. Mr. Gore's concession speech was truly altruistic and iconic. It should be replayed often : in elementary schools, high schools, universities and political arenas.

So, why didn't we pay more attention to Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth"? BECAUSE IT WAS INCONVENIENT !! It interferred with making money; it would cost too much money; manufacturers and corporations would have to change and become responsible. We would all need to become more responsible for our practices and behaviors -- how inconvenient ! Scientists have been warning us about the effects of industrialization since at least the 19th century. In 1896 Svante Arrhenius of Sweden said that the increases of CO2 through industrialization would raise the planet's average temperature. The bottom line in my opinion: greed and selfishness eats responsibility for lunch.

I have often wondered where we would be now as a country and as a planet had Al Gore been rightfully declared the winner. I really do believe that we would be better off and on a more productive path. But, alas -- it can only be speculation.

My hope is, as always, that we learn from mistakes, and make strides to correct them and not make them again. It just seems (especially in these chaotic days) as though we cannot do that,

Here's my comment - Take your left wing propaganda piece and go fuck yourself.

Dan Rather - Resigned in disgrace for trying to subvert democracy by lying about a presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, Gore became rich, divorced the mother of his children and continues to fly private jets while lecturing us on something called "climate change". Allegedly, a dynamic climate is bad. Therefore it follows that a static climate is good. When have we had a static climate, Mr. Gore?

I guess Gore's daddy keeping him a photographer in Vietnam wasn't enough white privilege for this audience.

Character mattered. Once. Until the first debate involving Trump. It ended when the field of Repubblican candidates slunk off with their butts in their hands and the lesson of immorality Trump offered and which the all failed with their confirmations: We must put party and electability first and policy, platform, and service to America last, right after allegience to our country.

I worked for former VP Gore' s election to the Presidency. The results and decisions that followed still taste bitter; however, I never guessed that that election would lead to the devastating outcome of the 2016 election of Donald Trump and the post election trauma to our Democracy following Trump's defeat in 2020. I yearn to witness the image of a "West Wing" Presidency become a reality and worked hard for the elections of President Obama, the campaign of Hillary Clinton, and the election of President Biden. Thank you Dan and Elliot for honoring AL Gore.
