Love this Substack -- thank you Dan Rather and Elliot Kirschner. But I have an issue with this sentence "And the great original sin of America, slavery, was written into law."

I teach high school students about US History, and the original sin of America was the genocide of the indigenous peoples. MLK pointed this out in his 1963 book "Why We Can't Wait" where he wrote

"Our nation was born in genocide when it embraced the doctrine that the original American, the Indian, was an inferior race. Even before there were large numbers of Negroes on our shores, the scar of racial hatred had already disfigured colonial society."

Not particularly on-topic for tonight, but I do feel that needs to be pointed out.

I tuned into my local CBS station to hear the President of the United States speak to the nation. Nothing but local news. NBC, ABC, even PBS, no coverage of the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. We had to scramble to find it streaming directly from the White House. I am flabbergasted. To further demonstrate that I am old, I remember when the President gave a speech it was carried on every major station. You had no choice but to listen or turn it off. I can only ask why?
