Thank you for your Steady analysis of PINO Trump and his half-witted, slavering minions who are all "hungry ghosts"--no amount of anything fills or satisfies their insatiability. Hope their getting what they want tactics result in an implosion (like an old vacuum tube). Thank you for being a shining light in this oppressive darkness.
For some Sunday's "Reason to Smile", how about the beautiful valentine Kris Kristofferson penned "Loving Her Was Easier (than anything I'll ever do)". The woman Kris sings of sounds like your beloved Jean.
Dan, Last week you wrote aboust musk doing trump's dirty work. If he was he'd have a team of accountants working for him. He doesn't, he has hackers and coders working for him. He goes in to a organization and shuts it down, talks about how corupt it is and his guys go the work digging through the computer systems. You have to ask yourself what are they looking for?
Musk has attacked many institutions that have launched investigations into his various oganizations such as USAID and Starlink. How many of the fired Inspectors General wer looking at him? His team of hackers are looking for evidence with sole intent of destroying it.
Dan, thank you for calling this what it is--a frenzied attack by Trump and his white supremacy co-
conspirators (some of whom are not white, by the way) to hold onto the enormous power and wealth that white males in particular have always enjoyed and abused in our country. Of note, Latinos are now categorized as "white" by the US Census. So it is no surprise that many of them have gleefully defected from the Democratic party to join their newly-bestowed status in the majority with the Republicans.
One group that will not be receiving that "coveted status" is my folks--Blacks Americans. Yet, ironically, without my people, there would truly be no USA. We were not forcibly brought here and brutally enslaved to just grow a few crops and serve some coffee. Black African slaves were the economic engine that helped to create the wealthiest nation in the world. Our banking system was created because at one time, Black African slaves produced cotton for the world that in today's dollars was valued in the billions annually. We built the White House, where a racist autocrat now sits. We built the roads and highways. We fought in all of our nation's wars, including the Revolutionary War, with courage and distinction, even when treated less than human and denied the dignity we deserved as people made in God's image. The Natives who were subjected to near genocide, are now being classified as "immigrants" so they can be further harassed and ostracized by a government that took their country from them by force.
Yes, this assault by Trump, and in reality millions of our fellow Americans, is a blatant upsurging of the original sins of this nation--white supremacy and covetousness. You say it started in 2015 with gay marriage being legalized. I say it started long before then in 1863 with the Emancipation Proclamation. America has never truly abandoned its racist underpinnings. With each hard fought gain, Black people have seen an onslaught of perverse and immoral judgments, actions, and decisions fighting to push us back to our original status. It is truly only by God's grace that Black people, my people, have survived and even thrived in this nation. I pray Almighty God will continue to fight our battles for us, as we trust in His mercy and protection. In Christ Jesus' name, Amen!
What I don't understand is spending tens of billions of dollars to send three people on a year-long joy ride to orbit Mars. What's in it for me? Provide safe housing for ever child in America? I'm down with that. Ensure our electrical grid doesn't burn down when there's a thunderstorm? Good idea! Reduce our reliance on non-renewables that contribute to global warming? Our kids and their kids will appreciate it! Eliminate hunger in Third World countries? Not only would Jesus approve, but we'd all be better off! But, Mars? We're going to colonize Mars? Really? We should give Elon a one-way ticket to Mars. He'd like it there...
This is the best analysis I’ve seen on why Trump is targeting DEI. One excerpt that stood out to me among others:
"This is hypocrisy, especially when you consider some of his Cabinet appointments. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth pretty much kills their argument for merit-based hiring.
Let’s take a step back for what’s known in television as the wide shot. Here’s what this is really all about: white men whining."
My only concern is that a much wider audience should be reading this Substack piece beyond just Steady’s readership.
Would it provoke his ire if you and Team Steady appeared on 60 Minutes to share your perspective on his attack on DEI? That would certainly make his blood boil and send him straight to social media.
Thank you Dan and Team Steady for all you do and especially for writing this post.
The scene in the oval office, with Musk controlling everything and a thoroughly bored Trump babysitting Musk’s kid, spectacularly showed how deep the corruption is and how Trump is no longer POTUS.
I have been staying off social media to try and keep my despair from taking me down. I do always read your substack Mr. Rather because I know you address the mess we are in with intelligence and compassion for your readers. Thank you once again for telling it like it is.
The level of stupidity, not ignorance, in this wannabe fascist regime is mind-boggling. Their stupidity is motivated by their racist, misogynistic, homophobic, mentality. They are ANTI - You name it. Musk, along with trump are, proving just how stupid they are daily. How about their approval rating - talk about mind-boggling. Whatever it is at the moment, I guarantee that it will be halved in a very short time.
Please help explain to me the trend in across the country in the 2024 elections indicating the increased percentages of women, Latinos, and people of color who voted for the GOP and helped Trump win and take the senate and house.
Some in my Latino family voted for him because "he's a Christian" because "everything is so expensive", because "interest rates are so high." 🙄When I argued any of these points, they just blindly believed that none of what he said would affect them personally. Now, here we are, and it's infuriating!

So well said!!! Keep it up!
…. and with RFK Jr.’s confirmation by the Senate and Patel’s confirmation likely, the coup is nearly complete. Appalling, dramatic and sad end ……
Good grief. Trump no has declared war on words. Unbelievable. What a blithering idiot.
Please God, help our legislators and the public to stand up and shout!
When will we feel enough outrage to wake up from our collective stupor?

my new favorite term for him is PINO (President in Name Only)

Nancy, FEAR/HATE is the most effective tool to get a lot of people to the polls. Cost of eggs, ii.e. inflation was the rationale for their hatred.
DEI stands for Don, Eric and Ivanka.
Thank you Dan Rather.
Your steady analysis of this mess we call tRump is a treasure not to be taken for granted.
Indeed!!
