Although the issue of stereotyping in children's literature is interesting and Social Psychology and Cognitive Development have addressed the issue, the Arkansas congress has discussed Dr. Seuss while ignoring threats to democracy. In addition, The Governor signed a Neanderthal bill banning medically safe abortions even to victims of rape and incest. A dangerous message about the status of women's rights and the irrelevant status of female crime victims.

I was hoping that we would be able to come together as a country once we had the finish line in sight. I imagined that July 4th might be a day to declare Covid Independence Day. As a country, we could all rip off our masks and have giant parties. I thought having an end date that is not really that far in the future would encourage people to stay masked up and socially distant. What a celebration it would be. Unfortunately, many states have jumped the gun. I really hope that this won't lead to unnecessary deaths, but it probably will. Even worse, what if this opens us up to another variant that renders the current vaccines ineffective. I mean honestly. A few months more of mask wearing won't kill anyone, but stopping too soon just might.

Willful ignorance...woeful regret? Sadly, there are too many Christians who walk this road, deliberately ignoring facts that are supported by evidence because they counter their own beliefs, still believing that democrats stole the election, that Global warming is a myth, and the severity of the Pandemic is spun by, yes, democrats. It isn't till COVID germs invade their own families and spread to the very community they have committed to serve and protect that the lightbulb flashes. Hopefully, the bulb stays screwed in.

I think your best tweet was questioning whether Sen. Johnson would need the bill read in Russian.

Thanks for the link to the article about Ben Franklin and the Gulf Stream. Fascinating!

Cheers to your efforts to provide thoughtful, behind-the-tweets commentary.

Much like former smokers being the loudest critics of smoking, I’m a former (40 year) resident of WI who is sickened by Ron Johnson’s sharp turn to the dark side. As a Feingold devotee, I never imagined that his defeat would result in what has become the epitome of sycophancy to Trumpism.

As a resident of Missouri (Josh Hawley, Roy Blunt, Gov. Parson), I empathize with your point that many Texans do not agree with the governor's policies. Same for Missouri. None of the above people represent anything close to my views, yet they tar the state in the minds of others. The only reason our governor hasn't removed our statewide mask mandate is that he resolutely refused to issue one in the first place. And I absolutely love reading your thoughts behind your tweets!

Being of the mindset that the greater good being the important consideration, I find the party -first political mind-set of the GOP nauseating- maddening- with their obstructionist tactics totally disregarding human need totally insufferable.

Dan, I am definitely in your age group, and enjoy many of the things our generation has experienced through the years. My daughter, in her 50"s, introduced me to your endeavor, and I applaud you for bringing some perspective to today's world and all of it's happenings.

Dan - I share your concern about the business models for good journalism. I worked for 40 years for a news organization that had to reinvent itself in order to survive. It was a struggle and I have to admit there were compromises that I didn't like in order to compete in the digital space. Thorough copy editing, proofreading, and fact checking on the fly aren't always possible. My employer was national, but I'm especially concerned about local news. It's so vital, but I don't see a viable model to keep it going. Do you have thoughts on local journalism?

The derogatory use of the word Neanderthal will come back to haunt Biden like Deplorables hurt Clinton. It will become a rallying cry for midterms. I can see the T-shirt and caps now. “Neanderthals vote”.

Biden needs to keep the high ground and leave the schoolyard name calling to the Former Guy.

Remember, name calling just stopped a Biden appointment.

Big mistake, Joe, big mistake.
