Thank you for your optimism and ideas, Mr Rather. These are frightening times and you offer reassurance.

Well, it's more accurate to be very widely inclusive when you mention lying politicians. They ALL lie. And it's getting far worse as the power shift goes completely left, too. Look. Gullible people are far and wide. Journalists and true news: rare indeed. Particularly when so few media owners exist, and their leanings are all in the same direction. "News" has become slack, lacking importance, and it all has become sensationalism, and clicks, and what draws eyes to tweets and brief highlights using the word "shocking". Gullible people are everywhere. They're not at all weighted more on one side or the other of the political spectrum. There isn't even very much literacy among reporters today. From their failure to use simple spell check software, to poorest of poor writing style that engenders complete misunderstanding; it's disgusting. People are tired of so much left leaning or right leaning "news". Such articles and tweets are dangerously undifferentiated from news, and quickly generate a hate response. That divides further. That smudges the news industry further. That detracts from the legitimacy of news and, I include such other media as this very newsletter/blog instantiates. Do yourself and everyone else a favor here Dan. Just the facts where applicable. Just some simple, unbiased, middle-of-the-road stimulating thought, would be a welcome digression back to productivity in the reality of what we're all living through right now. Inclusiveness is key, here. Reading the comments about lying government officials, I get an accusing left leaning connotation. As if only the Deep State Democratic party can possibly lead, "correctly". Just look at what's happening right now in that party (Cuomo, Iran Deal, China complacence in Paris Accord & genocide, and many many more items). There's plenty of poor leadership, pandering, bad policy, crappy deals, outright lying/coverup, and egregious failures to go around. The DOJ and other agencies are completely left leaning. They don't do anything they're supposed to do anymore. Why don't you and this attempt to engage others, try exposing the world without ANY slant? You did a better job in your celebrity interviews, which I much enjoyed. This is getting back to the bias that drove you from the nightly news.

I enjoy your tweets & newsletter for a multitude of reasons. This week you included a bonus above & beyond those reasons that has already helped me in my daily life. I’m referring to the clip of the Fever of Rays. Watching the rays swim, circle about and move together is incredibly soothing and I’ve bookmarked the clip to add to my toolbox of helpful things for ptsd flare-ups. Plus it is fun to watch - no flare-up needed. Thank you Mr Rather.

(a) I loved Molly Ivins and I would love what she would do to Cancun Ted. (b) Yes, and I'm buying what you're selling (insight, opinion, clarification, love for our country, and rejection of sleaze). (c) Your week in tweets has brought me to tears. It has been a challenging one for me, but you remind me that life goes and we can do it. Best to you.

This was exhilarating, but it also made me think about how gullible a lot of Americans have become especially to letting elected officials lie and get away with it...I always said that the USA was only place a politician would get his/her comeuppance for being heinous...sigh at Cruz!

According to https://www.infoplease.com/us/military/americas-wars-us-casualties-and-veterans the total number of U.S. war casualties from 1775-1991 is about 1.2 million. The U.S. has lost 500,000 people in just over a year. The word I choose to use is "staggering".

I missed your Molly tweet somehow, but I’ll chime in with my endorsement, however belated. Lord, I miss her. Even though, regardless of where I live, I am still a damn Yankee, Lord, I miss Molly.

Dan- I have followed you since the Vietnam era. I was in college in the late 60s and a young soldier in Heidelberg in the early 70s. Since then, I have followed you off and on to now. Now I have become a ready follower on Steady. Thanks for your words.

I agree that we need each other to move forward. I think it will be slow, but that it will happen. Still so much hate and labeling snd blaming out there. But now there’s a plan. And it’s being carried out. I’m trying to put the bad behind me and reach out among my family and friends and in my own community. I think that’s where we have to start. A step at a time.

I simply can't abide Twitter -- I've tried multiple times. Deactivated my account just now. In other news, I want to be Dan Rather when I grow up. Happy weekend, everyone!
