True, there have been some that have not sided with him on cases that have come about lately. And I agree on the rest. I did not follow politics when I was younger. I am 57 now little too late. I really hope the younger generation can help make some changes for the good and get out and vote. I have very little faith in the government anymore. They find too many loopholes, and bend the laws to benefit themselves. It’s been very nice having this conversation with you. Thank you wishing you the best.

His fire has instilled hope.

I liked his style and his emotional delivery. The substance was hopeful grandstanding and while the childish side of me thought some of the comparisons were delightful (Maturity over Mar a Lago!) the meat of the speech is still uncooked. I feel like he is a terrific leader in Congress. His party certainly adores him. I don't think McCarthy has nearly that kind of support; he is going to have to fight in order to rein in his people in and help them find unity. Frankly, I wish all of us a lot of luck. There is a thread of hate and redemption sitting in Congress that will continue to spoil the hopes of many of us. I want more gun control laws nationally, better nationally supported election laws, and women's freedom of health choice laws. Republicans claim to be the party of freedom, but continue to strangle freedoms by refusing to make laws that enforce rights. I don't know that Jefferies and the Democrats can resolve that; but it sounds like he wants to try. I'm hopeful.

I loved his alphabet of party contrasts!! Impressed with this man, his character, and his gift of leadership!

Hakeem Jeffries' speech was so moving, and I had to applaud along with all the others in the House. Sadly, his moving speech was negated by the man following him, taking the podium, and the Gavel, to be the new Speaker. I truly dread the next two years.

The republicans, as usual, make shameful fools of themselves and their party.

Thank you Democrats for sticking together. And thank you Hakeem Jeffries!

What a great speech. I am honored to have Hakeem Jeffries as my voice in the House of Representatives. He spoke so eloquently of the way I’m feeling. I look forward to his tenure.

Truly, the right man for the moment! Staunchly independent, but pulling for Minority Leader Jeffries continually. What a speech...on unity and progress forward! 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Hakeem Jeffries' speech shows a new leadership style that is both a contrast to Kevin McCarthy AND a contrast to Nancy Pelosi (and obviously a contrast to Trump in that Hakeem knows the English alphabet in order without singing the song in his head).

He defined the Democrats plans and positions as follows:

We will continue to fight for

* lower costs

* better paying jobs

* safer communities

* defend democracy

* protect public interest

* economic opportunity

* reproductive freedom

We believe in a government that

* believes that the country is for everyone

* provides for poor

* works for working family

* makes sense for middle class

* stands up for senior citizens

* innovates in the inner city

* strengthens suburban communities

* helps out heartland

* revitalizes rural America

I love that you brought this speech to my attention. The man acts like a Christian, even if he supports a woman's right to choose. I was reminded that Jesus doesn't support this by several people. I still believe. CSPAN moved their cameras and gave us an idea of what it will be like.

I support this man. Fasten your seat belts people.We are in for a bumpy ride!

I'd finally gone to bed after watching the votes all evening (pretty demoralizing, watching that chaos) and heard his speech. I was so grateful to hear his words. He gives back some hope in what is clearly going to be a difficult few years.

Wow! I have hope after hearing this. I was feeling lost, worried and hopeless that all the progress made in the last 2 years would be for not and come to an abrupt end. Bravo Mr. Jeffries, Minority LEADER Hakeem Jeffries. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

As I watched his speech the first time (and it deserves to be watched over and over), the hair stood up on the back of my neck because I knew I was witnessing something remarkable. Oratory. Some people said Obama 2.0, but that’s unfair to them both. Hakeem Jeffries is his own man. Onward! 💪🏽

In case you missed it, here's a sample from the speech by Hakeem Jeffries, the House Minority Leader:

House Democrats,” he said, “will always put American values over autocracy, benevolence over bigotry, the Constitution over the cult, democracy over demagogues, economic opportunity over extremism, freedom over fascism, governing over gaslighting, hopefulness over hatred, inclusion over isolation, justice over judicial overreach, knowledge over kangaroo courts, liberty over limitation, maturity over Mar-a-Lago, normalcy over negativity, opportunity over obstruction, people over politics, quality of life issues over QAnon, reason over racism, substance over slander, triumph over tyranny, understanding over ugliness, voting rights over voter suppression, working families over the well-connected, xenial over xenophobia, ‘yes, we can’ over ‘you can do it,’ and zealous representation over zero-sum confrontation.”
