I always looked forward to Darlene Love singing “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) every holiday season on David Letterman’s show. I was equally disappointed when Steven Colbert did not continue the tradition after Letterman retired. I understand she now sings it Fallon’s Tonight Show since 2024. I’m going to Spotify now to hear Michael Buble’s version. Love his voice. It’s like buttah.
I look forward to your every post, but the Sunday "A Reason to Smile" is one I won't miss. Thank you for demonstrating what real journalism is all about. I am forever grateful I grew up with you as a role model in reporting. I feel bad for the younger generations who look up to "influencers" rather than those who are truly exceptional in their craft. Mr. Rather, I wish you would lead the charge away from supporting ICE and Spotify. You seem to resent having to look for another platform. Leaving Spotify might be inconvenient, but unless you support ICE and the regime it is time to do the right thing.

On its original release in 1963 the song didn’t find success, but in later years it has gone on to become a Christmas standard. The song has been covered by many, but Michael Buble’s version of the song on his 2011 studio album entitled Christmas is in a class of its own. Thanks Dan for selecting this song in your series. It’s the perfect choice especially for this time of year.
