Make 'Em Laugh

steady.substack.com

For today’s “Saturday Smile” we go back to the movies, way back almost 70 years to one of the great classics. It’s Singing in the Rain starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds. While the film is filled with memorable songs and dance routines, including one of the most iconic in the history of motion pictures, the spotlight for us today is co-star Donald O'Connor, a genius of physical comedy.

In the song “Make ‘Em Laugh,” O’Connor, the son of vaudeville performers, reaches a level of artistry with his body that is almost unworldly. It is a joy to behold and a reason not only to “make ‘em laugh” but to smile as well. It’s a crescendo of joy, and one we sorely needed. We hope you enjoy.

This is AWESOME! 😅

My parents were older, because I was their youngest, and they were married in 1949, so these songs. shows etc, remind me of them. They had an apartment ,in Manhattsn, as newlyweds, then with my first 2 oldest siblings. They used to go to live shows, and movies, walking distance. Somehow, this kind of music, and acting brings back their spirits, right to my heart. This reminds me of what they loved, besides Greek Music; we're Greek, (yadda yada),

I am just realizing, now, why this email was super cool, for me, because this kind of entertainment, & baseball, made my Newly-American Dad , blend in, with my friends' ' parents and grandparents.

My Mom was 85, when.she passed, in 2016, and my Dad was. months away from turning 100, when he passed. In 2019. I truly think that people who have spirits to enjoy these kinds of things, are happier. Inside, are grateful for everything, and anything, and die young, even at 85 and 99.

These little, seeingly- light posts, on Saturdays, are priceless! Yeah Yeah Yeah, we all must follow our ex-president, trump, is it, so that he doesn't steal the silverware, or whatever, but WE ARE STILL, LIVING, BREATHING HUMAN BEINGS,, who were born in, immigrated to, or visited, America, and we hold , within us, the things about America, that trump couldn't even find within his upside, down Bible.

Wow, these Saturday Smile emails have done it, again. These Saturday Smile Emails, are a space, safe from trump. 🙏🏼😊

These Saturdsy Smile Emails, are under trump's radar; they are memory-evolking, spirit-lifting, and they are, still, delightfully surprising. I open the email, log in, "Oh, how nice, another, Saturday Smile Email," I think. Then, no sooner than I click on the link, or read the first paragraph. I am drawn in, HEAD-FIRST, thinking of loved ones who have passed, thinking of whi I was, before trump, who America was, before trump, and I actually smile, spontaeneoisly, and look forward to welcoming the new day, the new week, ahead, the new Democrat-Majority Congress, (but I digress).

What I'm trying to say, is that these Saturday Smile Emails are so great, for more than a thousand reasons, (Yes, I counted)! Again, & Agsin, Thank You, Dan, & Everyone with Steady, & I Hope You Will All Enjoy This Post, All Day,. My Steady Friends! I've watched it a few times, already, and it will be my theme song for today!! 🙏🏼❤🥰

There is nothing light about these Saturday Smile Emails Dan, please,, never stop posting these. ;😊🙏🏼🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
