A Reason To Smile
I want to take a moment to thank you for supporting this effort. We have many new followers and subscribers to Steady, which is appreciated and humbling. I’m grateful you are choosing to join us, and we hope to make it worth your while.
This has been a good week for democracy, for justice, and for the rule of law. We’ve gone through some tough times and endured some dark days, and while I don’t necessarily consider it a cause for celebration, the decision by a brave group of New York jurors is uplifting and encouraging.
The noise from MAGA has been loud and unrelenting. That should tell you something. The verdict struck a nerve.
Here’s something to help drown out the noise. It has no historical or musical significance to celebrate this week — I just like it. I hope you do too.
Four great country artists appeared together as The Highwaymen back in 1990. Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson — that’s a lot of talent on one stage. The song, originally released by Waylon in 1977, quickly became a number-one hit. It tells of a couple’s painful “rise to high society” and asks why “don’t we get back to the basics of love?” Waylon’s idea to solve their problems is to move to Luckenbach, which is a real town, no bigger than a minute, in the Texas Hill Country. Please feel free to sing along, and I hope it brings a smile.

Dan….firstly I would like to say that I pleased to see that your Steady audience keeps growing. Your voice is important to the country, because, as always you see things through the correct and fair lens.
Secondly, I am ever so proud to be a Manhattanite and am elated that my “neighbors” did such a fine job as jurists and voted to convict this horrible despot who is only interested in himself. However, I fear that many people are not going to take this as seriously as they should. And a lengthy drawn out appeals process could make this seem like “a democrats dream” rather than reality. I fear that too many people don’t take white collar crimes seriously, and until they see him behind bars, they will still feel he is not really a felon. I sure do hope I am wrong.
Thirdly, the Highway Men are superb. And their tribute to a small, simple life filled with love and dedication, is something we should all pay attention to. These are the “abc’s” of living.
I have never seen that video of the song. I love it! Thank you Mr. Rather, And as always, thank you for all you do. You give my thoughts a voice so eloquently.
