I’m familiar with Loretta’s songs, but never really listened to all the lyrics. They bring tears to my eyes. As a child in the 60s I lived that era, but was too young to really realize what restrictions there were on women. I came of age in the seventies and it was a very different world for women then. These songs give me a better understanding of what it was like for women in previous years. Loretta Lynn…what a voice, both musically and for a generation of women!!!

If I could write a note to Loretta, here's what I would say ... I have always loved you Loretta Lynn, my Mom even named my sister and I after your twin daughters, Patsy and Peggy! I've been listening to your beautiful music and singing your songs since I was a young girl. Who am I to judge how you voted, I'm not judging, just expressing my thoughts, the most important thing is that in a democratic country, you could vote and your vote was counted. I only hope you and others, now see that to cast a vote for DJT is to wave goodbye to democracy in the USA. He is the narcissist that dreams of being a dictator/autocrat/fascist, call it what you want! It didn't take long for the World to realize that every word out of his mouth was/is a lie! Let's face it, the fact that he openly admires and aligns with Autocrats around the World, including the murderous Putin, should be a huge RED FLAG for everyone! For Trump to call Putin a genius as we watch the inhumane slaughter of the poor innocent Ukrainian people so he can lay claim to their land is beyond sobering and sickening. If Trump EVER returns to the Presidency of the USA, either legitimately or illegitimately by pulling off a coup, Lord help everyone! Corruption and nepotism will be rampant, Trump, his family and his cronies will pilfer from the government purse.

Think of the money DJT, Eric, Donald Jr and Ivanka have misused (stole) from the Trump "Charitable" Foundations, much of it was used to advance his 2016 election campaign, settle lawsuits, pay debts at his golf courses and Maralago, $20,000.00 for a 6' commissioned portrait of himself, there's no end to the corruption! For years Trump and his family have used shell companies to hide money like the mafia. Here's the future with Trump ... the poor will become poorer, the rich will become richer, your freedoms will vanish, further election results WILL be fraudulent and determined prior to the election, he will be the President until he dies ... the media will be controlled just like you see in Russia. All voters should be aware of what the frightening and sobering future would be for the USA if DJT ever again held presidential power!

That was a nice Saturday smile. I just wonder for the life of me why and how she could have supported Trump?

Loretta Lynn was offended when, upon meeting, Bill Monroe pinched her derrière. Later, when Faron Young patted her derrière, she kicked his shin. Imagine what she would have done if Trump had grabbed her where, he brags, he grabs women. Lynn said in 2016 that her second choice for president would be Ted Cruz. She had also campaigned for Bush II in 2000. But she tweeted in recent days that she likes and prays for all the presidents. So she deserves a pass.

So much truth in this today, and it really makes some painful memories float to the top of my conscious. Particularly interesting now, though, is the notion that we aren’t simple beings and shouldn’t really be slotted into one of two parties in this nation. Loretta wasn’t. We should either have more parties or no parties. Two parties can only serve to divide and I’ve never seen us so painfully divided as we are now.

I never listened to Loretta Lynn, because I'm not a fan of country music. I can see how her song lyrics though have touched the hearts of her fans, so thank you for printing some of them in the post. I'm still have the rest of your interview with her to finish.

Like Dan Rather I was born in Texas. (Both of us and many others, I hope, outgrew the conservative aspects of our upbringing.) None of us can (or need) understand or apologize that our interests in music are diverse, but do lean toward some country artists. The Lorreta Lynn songs featured in the Steady post - perhaps only 1 or 2 of the 3 - may surprise you. I guess what we called Women’s Lib in the old days has always been more popular than even its supporters - and I do hope you are one - thought. Thank you Dan Rather, Elliot Kirschner, and Lorreta Lynn!

She did sing some meaningful songs, but sadly if she then supported Trump in 2016 she has lost my admiration. That she could come from such a background and still support him is beyond me.

Dan, thanks for the link to your interview. I think Loretta was speaking for both of you when she said, “I don’t have to work, I just want to.” I’m so glad you do!!

Once again a very enjoyable Saturday highlighted by your selection of Loretta Lynn. I watched your interview with her and it is obvious she has not changed much from Butcher Holler. Good to see.

I was hurt by so many comments about her vote in 2016. At least she did not hide it. We all have our reasons. And, more importantly, she exercised her right. That’s the important point. Our biggest political party is the non voters, which is sad.

Also through the years I had lost track of her. It was good to hear her music and your interview and realize we still have people, who overcome all odds and are a success in achieving positive change in our society.

Because of her how many women are now very successful and have broken many glass ceilings without having ever heard of Loretta Lynne?

I remember loving when summer came and we could kick off our shoes and go barefoot! Of course, when school started in the Fall we had to contend to the blisters when we started wearing shoes again. Sometimes with paper stuffed in the toes to make them fit. Only one pair of shoes per school year, you see.

Thank You for this Dan. I started watching you at age 6. My favorite mentor/hero was my Grandfather and he totally admired you and was inspired by you. He taught me about politics early in. How important it is to be engaged. I’m so thankful my Papa introduced me to you! You reported about a hurricane and you helped save 350,000 lives. You’re still rocking it!

Dan this was a remarkable interview with Loretta Lynn.

I never realized she was an activist through her music. Her determination and confidence really was amazing. Her dedication and loyalty to her husband was truly real love ,

considering what she endured with him even towards the end of his life. She was a natural with gifted talent and through her lyrics she expressed her true heart felt feelings about life.
