I agree! It was a journey back to a "rom-com" time; we still had societal faith and knew how to have fun. I always take a deep breath when I see the Twin Towers still standing. America can take it's lead from the resilience of NYC. Carly Simon music is always wonderful. Here's to acknowleding a steadier past and keeping the faith for the future!
Jade, I agree! When I watched Carly Simon in the video and saw the Twin Towers, I got teary eyed. It was a time when we were all united as a country. Sadly, the orange man took our faith in each other away from us. We may be divided right now but when Kamala wins in November, perhaps we can finally begin to heal. Vote blue, America, up and down the ballot!
And quite a song it is. As a born and bred New Yorker I can see what she saw in the orchestration and the words. It set the tone for the whole movie. Though it was a New York story that happens once ina million times it was nice to live it for 2 hours. And Carly has such a beautiful voice and a way with words. And having just lost my mother three days ago, this proved particularly uplifting and smile driven. Thank you Dan for making me feel better. And now Yankees wins and Mets wins would finish the dream.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Yours truly lost mine 51 years ago and not a day has gone by when I don’t remember. Mother’s are eternal. And this idiot (45th) is trying to be “protector)
I was living in a South Korea that was just emerging from tight military and elderly Confucianist control, at that time. "Working Girl" never made it to theaters there, which was too bad, because I was teaching my female students to stand up for themselves. The fruits of that labour have been evident, in everything from the K-Pop girl bands to the daughters of my students rising up to fill previously males-only corporate and other professional positions. Their mothers learned to talk back-and have never gone back.
This song says it! We’re running and hoping and praying that this election will show that hate is not what we, the people, want. Whatever happens in November, we will still be here. We can create a better world, each one of us starting with their own circle and moving outward to encompass all.
Thank you so much, Dan! I woke this morning stressed about Our Country and what is going on right now. This beautiful song immediately took me to a very happy time long ago. At 76, the music brings so many happy memories! God Bless you and yours, Dan! And God Bless America!!
Dear Mr. Rather, this column is what we need on Sunday morning to wash away the cacophony of the prior week. I heard you speak at a CU conference in Las Vegas right before the pandemic. You spoke of leadership and what a leader looks like, Ghandi, Mother Theresa, Mandela etc. You closed your speech with the inspiring words of The Impossible Dream. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the crowd. So thank you again for your leadership!
Thank you Dan for all your positive thoughts. I've Loved. Carly Simon since the '70s and she does a magnificent job. Let me recommend you listen to We the People and The Mary Ellen Carter sung by Schooner Fare. I would recommend listening more of their songs, but these two are more particular to the moment. I hope you enjoy and share.
ToniAnne, I would also like to recommend Keb Mo's 'Put a Woman in Charge'. I play it every single day as I work on postcards, petitions, letters and everything else to help Kamala become Madame President in November! Vote blue, America, up and down the ballot!
What a wonderful wake up this morning and definitely a reason to smile. As is your Steady. I remember seeing you first at Carla hurricane time. Keep on trucking, you have been a reason to have hope.
I saw the movie back in the day, and the final performance of the song as it closed was really inspiring.
There is a joke, kind a cruel in some ways, that comes to mind when I read about "red state" politicians proposing or passing some cruel, ignorant law: "In (name of state), life begins at conception. And it begins again when you move to (California | New York | the coast)." This song hints at why:. The City (which can be any city, not just Manhattan) as a place of fulfillment, ambition, and freedom. The place where great ideas and advances happen, and where a person can learn and blossom.
I have Simon's performance of "Let the River Run" bookmarked. Good Lord, can she belot it out! There are also DOZENS of "covers," many by choirs.
Let the river of votes deliver us to the new Jerusalem of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz!
Very true, really hope so, 🤞🤞🤞
Please, please, please!!!
Yes! Yes! Yes!!
Mr. Rather sir -- YOU are always a reason to smile. Stay Steady and stay with us forever!
Amen.
Dan Rather, you Never cease to express the absolute joy in life. Thank you for sharing this award winning and uplifting song to start our day.

Wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Thank you
Thanks for your kind thoughts. Let’s just make sure he doesn’t become 47th.
You are very welcome. It’s been 51 years and I am still hurting. No one can replace a mother.
I really hope and pray he does not become 47th.
He gives covid equipment to Putin.
It’s like a snake feeding another snake while a million people died here. His idea of MAGA.
What a shame.
Peace
Subway Series - YES, please. And let's put up the number 28 for the Yankees, please.
Sympathy to you.
Thank you for the warm and comforting thoughts.
Janis, I’m so sorry for the loss of your Mom…

I have my earbuds on so I don't wake the neighbors.
What a heroic way to start the day...
