Oh, such a beautiful lovely work of artand personal memory. I was 13 when this came out on the radio. I bought the 45 and played it over and over. That was the summer I fell in love (crush) with Gerry. If you’re out there, Gerry—Hey!

There’s human goodness and innocence in this song and other songs by Bill Withers. Thank you for sharing this video and reminding me that goodness exists when I allow myself to believe.

Excellent tune, great sentiment ... made that much more meaningful by John Legend, Bill Withers & the incomparable Stevie Wonder!

One of my all-time favorite songs and the message is totally important in the world today. I led a group of 8th graders in a rendition of this song at their graduation. It was a magical time. Thank you for sharing these versions; you have brought me smiles and, yes, tears as well. I am most grateful.

Exactly the reassurance we need now as Nov 8 results give a glimmer of hope that most American people have trust in our democracy. Thank you so much.

Yes, inspirational. We need to love where we live, not those out there with scare tactics, taking away our rights. Be vigilant, don't give up, and for all our sake- VOTE with your best thinking to save what we want, DEMOCRACY!

Tears and chills. Rock and Roll hall of fame video. My oh my; we need the Black communities sense of family and unity in these times. Embracing one another in these times. John, Oprah, Obama came out strong for all of us these past few weeks. They know how high the stakes are. Bill Withers posed In front of a banner “people.” Praise the lord and Thank you Dan and Elliott for taking me to church today.

Thank you for this blast-from-the-past, Dan. And yes.....during these very troubling times we all need "someone to lean on"! God Bless you....and all of us who support a reasonable need to a renewed belief in our country. Our once so beautiful America!!!

Well Mr Rather you completely destroyed me. To think I grew up with lyrics like this and have had to withstand all the hate and intolerance I hear daily is astounding. I always thought that America was like this song being surrounded by people who would give me a hand when I was down regardless of beliefs, politics or sex. Now it is not like that. In this divisive society there is no one left for me to turn to, to lean on and carry on.

In High School my Dad bought me that record. It was single 45 RPM. Sweet memories. He wanted to make sure I knew he would always be there for me. Sadly I lost him when I was 28.
