You've made some notable points, especially in our protracted use of plastics. I made a point with Emily Hawes (below) on my fury regarding various producers placing an inch of product into a three-inch, non-recyclable plastic container. Some of the responses I received are corporate babble in re : visibility on a market shelf, color, perceived value, and what was sadly lacking was the most obvious - ‘we simply don’t give a damn about what you think’. Go to any mega-store (Sam’s, WalMart, Costco etc) and you’ll find that their “health care” products come in huge tubs, which are blessedly stuffed to the top…but we are unable in many places to recycle same. There are two dairies in the SF Bay Area who still offer milk in glass bottles - one pays a deposit at the point of sale, and when returned takes a credit on the next purchase and the cycle continues. Small steps, each having value.

Seriously, the list could go on and on for plastics. I used to be able to recycle all plastic but not not any longer.
