Fun to read! I did not know there was a Pi day. Love cherry pies in addition to chocolate mousse and custard pies. Actually, I can't think of a pie I don't like.
Here's a Pi Day video from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology -- arguably the geekiest school in the universe, and my husband's alma mater. (His favorite pie is cherry.)
And speaking of cherry pie, I recommend investing in a bottle of kirschwasser (preferably Schlederer). A tablespoonful added to a cherry pie before baking is transformational!
I'm a day late here, but I must express my gratitude for pi. The idea of infinity makes me very happy. And when it comes to pie, it's hard to beat my mom's pecan pie, one of my very favorites.
My mother’s cherry pie …. recipe on the side of the Minute Tapioca box which featured a bit of almond extract (and no cinnamon!). Her crusts we’re not ‘beautiful’ but absolutely light and lovely. How I miss her.
Also good … my fathers favorite, ‘ordinary’ pea can pie, with a layer of cut (not crushed) pineapple in the bottom. Really remarkable!
As a retired middle school math teacher, one of my favorite days of the academic year was Pi Day, where we could kick back and do something amazing with MATH!
The best pie in the entire universe is a wild huckleberry pie lovingly baked by your mother after hours of picking in the woods with your siblings. I have a feeling that few people in this world have ever enjoyed this experience, and wished to share this most wonderful simple pleasure with others. It's worth the time it takes to get enough berries for one small magical slice of heaven.
