Thanks Mr. Rather! It was just the right amount of comedy for the holiday I loathe, not in jaded way, I share a birthday with St. Valentine & yeah it was cool & sweet when I was in elementary school but as puberty set in, I was in more fights because of it & the "will you be mine" just stopped, (insert expletive) but this year was a grand day, last year 2 days before my birthday I picked up my father's ashes, this year is the first year I celebrated my sobriety without him and my crew (I'm a sailor) valentine bombed my stateroom this year, put a special announcement in our Plan of the week & everyone at the morning meeting said HBD so thanks for adding your twist & wit!

I grew up watching you on the “nightly News” oh how I wish I could say I admire todays news anchors as much..or even half as much as I do the current generation of news broadcasters. Huntley and Brinkley were much trusted and admired as well.

The current rash of news outlets, broadcasters and “news people” are a disgrace, and I have no ideas or answers on how to combat this “alternative” news that seems to appeal to the least common denominators in our society.

I find myself becoming more and more skeptical in our ability to turn back this tide

We are riding.

Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, but should that include being able to spread untruths, lies and propaganda?

And this growing divide between the “haves” and the “have nots” grows wider and wider. How can a democracy ideologically stem this tide?

Obviously, I have no good answers and I find myself glad I am getting old so as to divest myself from this world Man has created.

Perhaps every older generation goes through these feelings. Maybe it is Gods way of getting ourselves mentally ready to leave this world.

But I fear for my children and my Grandaughter.

This post is so clever, Dan, utilizing every opportunity to share love, poke fun & remind us that the spirit of Valentines Day is available 365/66 days a year. We are all free to declare any day/s V’day - our dinner reservations will be easier to get & our chocolates & roses a bit less expensive. Just another advantage.🌹🍾🎁❤️

I still shop for greeting cards, blank inside and otherwise, because I think receiving via USPS a personalized greeting from someone feels special. I purchase special stamps and stickers to decorate the envelopes and sometimes include an appropriate quote. All the holidays have become commercialized, yet viewed as an opportunity to reach out to others, the holidays serve a purpose. Hope you all give and receive love daily.

I am calling it All-entines this year. Sending love to all. "Love, sweet love. It's what the world needs now." Thank you Dan and Elliot.

Apology accepted. Now let's move on to the important business of the day: clearing up the supper dishes, editing our thoughts and posts, and keeping in touch with those who constitute our tiny world in the everlasting constellation of Everything Else.

Well, Dan, you’ve been prominent in my life since I was in junior high, and though I never supposed you could be my valentine [wasn’t hoping for the moon at the time], a news item at some point caused me to think I might be able to procure DNA for a price, to ensure evolution of the best of what humanity has to offer. I DO declare: never have I ever received too many Steady missives, and I doubt I ever will. Thank you, Dan and associates 🌠
