Thank goodness for Warnock’s win!! I was attending college in Georgia (NOT at UGA!) when HW was at UGA—he was dumb as a stump back then! 🤣🤣

What are the real motivations of anyone who would suggest that birth control should be abolished?

This recent election in Georgia made it clear to me that Republicans don't care a wit about who the person on their ticket is. Their ONLY concern is beating the Democrats. Sad that this has become the point of elections in this country.

Thank you, Dan

I think the silent generation,(those born from 1928-1945), the baby boomers(1946-1964) and generation X(1965-1980) are the generations that seem to be responsible for shifting control of both Houses of The US Congress to the party opposite the President in a midterm election. I think these group of voters are the ones that put Republicans in control of both The US Senate and The US House of Representatives when there is a Democratic President. When there is a Republican President, I am opining that these same three generations would switch both Houses of Congress to Democratic control. I think with the addition of the millenial generation(those born from 1981-1996) and generation z(those born form 1997-2012) are probably much more progressive than the 3 older generations. I think that both the millenial and generation z generations kept the red wave in this country from taking effect in this midterm election with a Democratic President. I think we need to deal with why those born from 1928-1980 keep voting to switch The US Congress to the political party opposite the president every midterm of a presidents first term, it seems like. Notice that I pretty much left out the Greatest Generation which was born between 1901-1927. Pretty much that generation has died off. The oldest ones of the Greatest Generation would be turning 121 years old and the youngest ones would be turning 95 years old this year. This generational cohort would have negligible influence on election outcomes since a vast majority of this generation has died off. In relation to the Georgia elections, I think the millenials and the generation z's kept Raphael Warnock in the US Senate. I would be scared what would happen if we had only those born from 1928-1980 voting in Georgia. These 3 older generations might have elected Herschel Walker instead of Raphael Warnock. Here is the link to the naming of generations born within different time periods:

I’m ashamed of the Georgians who actually thought an unqualified, uneducated, seemingly challenged, ex-athlete could fulfill the requirements of senator. Smh, Georgia. Too close for comfort, but I’m very happy with the outcome.

Perfect that you closed with Brother Ray.

As happy as I am to learn of Warnock’s success it still disturbs me that the race was so close. Millions of Americans are ok with supporting unqualified people who are ok with spreading lies and hate and want to destroy our democracy. They would even vote for Trump or a Trump clone if they could. The House has a Republican majority. That worries me as they are determined to use their power to prevent progress. The media must be forced to change its narrative if we are going to inspire our government to do a better job and for people to feel a sense of trust. No more lies. No more demonizing of the other. No more spreading of hateful or racist comments that people make. Trump must be charged and convicted of the crimes that he has committed. Nothing short of that will be acceptable. If he goes free, the Republicans will be given the go ahead to do whatever they want. Haven’t they caused enough harm? People have died because of the messages they have been repeating. It will be the downfall of our country. Laws must be put in place to protect our people and our country. Are you with me, America? If so, let your representatives know. Let the media know. Let everyone know.

I don't think the media will change its narrative with wealthy oligarchs in control of these media organizations. Yours truly, Dan Rather was ousted by a media oligarch for doing an investigative report on former President George W Bush's military record that the former President was very clearly displeased with.

Donald, we must think positively. I know that change is hard to come by but if we unite as a people, change can happen. The Christians and Republicans united to abolish abortion and shut down Planned Parenthood clinics. They succeeded. If people want change we need to be a united force. My hope is that we can unite for positive change in a positive but assertive way. I am at the beginning of forming a salon to come up with ideas for this. So far I have about 3 people, but I still have hope for us to grow. There’s so many things that need changing but first we must find a way to go public. That’s where the media comes in.

I would suggest media organizations be oriented away from the for profit model. The for profit model is based on ratings If the stories don't get ratings then they are not considered newsworthy by the wealthy investors of those media organizations. Anyway I believe with a non profit news reporting model I think we might be able to root out the corruption in news media that suppresses any news that is not favorable to wealthy news oligarchs. You are right we need to have a positive attitude and unite. The challenge is getting average people to unite. Too many average people it seems are only concerned about what is immediately relevant in their lives. So I think in order to get people to unite you got to somehow message in such a way that every person reached will see some immediate relevance to him or herself with the message. We also have to battle the immediate gratification mindset and help average people realize that things are possible even if we don't get immediate results. A lot of times results are realized over time not just in the short term.

Donald, your ideas have merit. We must find people with the knowledge and wisdom to bring this about. I am starting in my own town. Hopefully others who feel strongly about this will begin a grassroots movement for change. Like RBS once said, change must come slowly for people to be receptive to it. I wish I wasn’t so impatient but after 6 long years of negativity, the time is now.

As an Arizonan I send congratulations and a fist bump to Georgia. Together we’ll get there. Stay the course down there and we’ll go the same out here. Sometimes it feels a little like being a salmon swimming against a raging current of repression and hate. But our survival truly does depend on achieving success. Well done Georgia!

If you''ll allow me to put your commentary more succinctly and in language the less 'erudite' among the readers, we all need to be more cautious in our pleasure and relief about a higher percentage of votes for Democrats; and we need to be less morally judgmental about everything else. In addition, we need to expect less moral judgment from our elected officials in all it's politico/religion expression because it was stated over 2,000 years ago by one of the most famous politic/religious martyrs, i.e., the translation that's most well known being "judge not lest ye be judged in like manner". I'm referring specifically to all our elected and/or electable people who make moral judgments of other regarding behavior of all kinds, especially during election campaigns. However, all we very human citizens need to be cautious about our own judgmental-ism. I speak about myself as well as others, having been raised not just by my family but also by public means such as our religions, schooling, and the media in all its forms. Let us think for ourselves based entirely on the facts available. Hopefully, the media at all levels will be both able and willing to present all facts as accurately as possible. Blessed Be.

ANOTHER HALLELUJAH

Georgia has been on my mind, and I am so proud of Warnock for running such a thoughtful

campaign. It proves that sometimes the good guy wins. Thanks to the 51 percent who voted

for him. He now has 6 years to turn the other 49% into truth seekers. I wish he & Georgia the best

for the future.

Its a relief Warnock won. But Walker was used and abused as a black sports hero. He never should have been on this stage

What a wonderful news with a wonderful song to go with it. I will never listen to Georgia on My Mind in the same way again. Instead of being a nice song to listen to that has been a part of that repertoire of songs that pop up in my head and I can sing a few lines from, it will be a song that reminds me of that from time to time, with lots of help from friends, good people come out on top in the public venue. I like to believe that good people aways come out on top because even when they lose they go on to do good things for others, and to me that's a big win. During the campaign from time to time I would see snippets of Senator Warnock and I so enjoyed them. He is a very uplifting speaker who is honest and does not pander to anyone, but also does not let hatred go uncommented on. I don't know why he would want to subject himself to the insults and hatred there is against him in the Senate, except that he is a very very good person and sure personifies the concept of public servant. Like so many others in this group I grew up in an era where persons of color would not even run for office let alone be elected, let alone get votes from white folks. It may be slow, but the times (and of course demographics) they are a changing!
