I can think of a other would be authoritarian who has gone largely unchecked in his behavior and has paid little or no price for his abused and crimes. Perhaps we should take lessons from the present day and Putin to prevent a future in which an unchallenged, enabled trump is able to maneuver his bumbling way into even more power. I’d suggest this would happen (is happening) in the way power is being given back to the states.

I turn to experts on Putin and Russia to understand his actions. Fiona Hill, Garry Kasparov, and Bill Browder have all stated versions of the same conclusion: WWIII has already started, the longer we remain in denial, the worse our response will be. Like Trump, Putin counts on our desperation for 'normality' to rationalize and normalize anything and everything. It's time to face reality. If we don't stop Putin now, he will do exactly what he said: attack NATO countries that he believes should be part of his empire. How many have to die before we act? Another question...the West is desperate to limit countries from acquiring nuclear weapons, but the lesson they are learning is that those countries who possess nuclear power can commit genocide, simply by threatening to use the weapons. Many applaud the restraint of NATO...unfortunately many others view it as weakness. Some argue that Putin would love to turn this into a fight against the US. This argument seems feeble since he attacked Ukraine not the US, and his military is no match for the US. Finally, we have seen the vindictiveness of Trump's loss be channeled into incitement of a mob bent on terror, does anyone really believe that a humiliated Putin won't launch a tactical nuclear weapon at Ukraine or another Western European country in retaliation? At the end of the day, either Putin is stopped or dictators are appeased and continue their genocide. Not everything is a parallel to WWII, but I'd have thought that was one lesson we learned.
