My, how times have changed. This week’s reason to smile is a glance back to a time in our recent history when positivity was on the menu, along with hope.
Thirty-two years ago today, the rock group Fleetwood Mac reunited for one night, for one man: Bill Clinton. The legendary band performed one song at his first inaugural ball. That song was “Don’t Stop.” How appropriate is it today? Quite.
I interviewed band member Lindsey Buckingham a few years back and asked him about that memorable performance. “It was just a moment in time. It’s not the kind of thing you get asked to do very often,” he explained.
The 1992 Clinton campaign chose the band’s “Don’t Stop” as its theme song.
Besides the obvious reasons for the choice — the lyrics looking forward to a new tomorrow, the upbeat melody — it was also a savvy one. Clinton was the first Baby Boomer presidential candidate. The song, released in 1977, appealed to his base and upped his cool quotient.
“You could see how savvy a move that was, you know? To be shrewd about things like that — it really was kind of brilliant,” Buckingham said.

Don’t Stop Resisting.
As Elon Musk pushes X even further to the right, filled with hate speech and too much unchecked Trump, I have decided to try the new social media platform Bluesky. I hope you will join me there. Click here to follow me. Facebook, with Mark Zuckerberg’s decision to stop fact-checking, may not be far behind. For now, I am sticking with it.

Don’t Stop Seeking.
I also want to say happy anniversary to us and to you, the Steady community. You are the reason we have been doing this work for the past four years. I am grateful that you have chosen to stick with Steady or to join us recently. Thank you.
Unvarnished news from trusted sources is hard to come by these days — and more vital than ever. Sticking our heads in the sand plays right into MAGA’s hands. I promise to provide the best news and analysis I can, as we head into what will surely be a contentious, often frustrating, and sometimes frightening chapter in our nation’s history.
Stay informed and stay steady.
If you are able to, please support my team, who make pieces like this possible.

Stay Steady,

We can't STOP. We have kids/grandkids and care about our future. No time for 'how we got here', it's here.
Glad to hear you're joining Bluesky, Dan. I've been there a while; people are hungry to connect with good sources of information.
Wishing you all well from north of the border. Your felon-elect is our enemy, but the American people don't need to be.
