"Bye-bye Boebert is now a definite possibility." I certainly hope so, although any Republican who runs instead of Boebert will, in all likelihood, be MAGA, but she really needs to go.
Yes, they are all MAGA. I live in this district and though the Democrat, Ike McCorkle, is doing well at fund-raising, it's still a big lift to elect a Democrat instead of a Republican. The best you can say about the other Republicans in the primary is that there is no drama associated with them and all are long-time residents.
I feel like I write this way too often, but it's not just the overabundance of Republican and MAGA voters that give us grief, it's the lack of viable Democratic candidates, and the lack of support from the state Democratic committee.
I live in NW Maricopa County, Arizona, a "safe red" district where our previous Congressman was the pervy Trent Franks, who propositioned two female staff members about having old-fashioned sex with him (married man with two children), so he could have more children for his mentally ill wife to raise. When he was forced to resign, his replacement was the MAGA with her head implanted in Trump's colon, Debbie Lesko. Since Lesko doesn't have significant opposition, she wins reelection.
In the meantime, I've volunteered for Dem and Indie candidates, and contributed money I couldn't afford. But the Arizona Dem committee requires that candidates turn over their contributions and then they get crumbs back, as the committee spends the money on the big fish, like Sen. Kyrsten Sinema--look how that turned out (exactly as I predicted).
Party committees need to target MAGA districts to overturn the toxic incumbents. WE CAN'T VOTE BLUE IF THERE ARE NO BLUE CANDIDATES ON THE BALLOT.
Eastern Colorado and portions of the suburban Front Range in Colorado are deeply conservative. In the rural areas of Eastern Colorado, in any given town, you could stuff all the local Democrats (if any admitted to being Democrats) into a high school locker room and blow it up and they would bemoan the loss of the locker room. I know this because I grew up in the area.
Sorry, disagree. I have friends who are deeply conservative, who will have nothing to do with the MAGAt's. Once someone has "morphed", true Republicans shun them just as any sane person would. I can have real discussions with my conservative friends; the MAGAt's are just gone, like MTG, or jd vance.
Vocalize and Vote indeed! I've found that a true conservative is usually willing to talk about the issues factually. I try to convince them to vote Democrat, so their party can recover in the future and there can be compromise in our Congress once again.
Since when is deeply conservative pro-authoritarian, anti-rule of law, and believing a buffoon's constant lies? All republicans are not MAGA. Why aren't they speaking out about the insanity?
I wonder that too. Either they are fearful, hypnotized or delusional. Trump’s power is vast and ugly. Retaliation well known. Hopefully once he’s gone (for good) there will be a working 2-party system based on the good of our great country, instead of the uneducated whims of a narcissist with money.
Functionally there is little difference between a MAGA and a merely deeply conservative Republican who doesn't speak out or doesn't break with the crowd of buffoon/anti-rule-of-law believers. I think there are a lot of very afraid Republicans out there who know that if they speak out they very well could be ostracized at their church, among their (previous) friends and family. It happened to some people I know.
Is this more important than saving democracy from MAGA? What is really important? There are other churches, friends who are not fair-weather, and doesn't everyone already have extended family members with whom they disagree? What will anything be worth if democracy dies?
Well I don’t know about anyone else’s but my district here in NE Texas is 💯 percent MAGA! There are very few Democrats here & it’s just sickening to live in this RED Hell. I’ve never been much of a social person but I’m even less than ever because everyone around here is just eat up with this MAGA BS! Even if President Biden wins they will say he stole the election again & possibly organize a revolution. I’m serious we can’t ignore these idiots. They are already mouthing off about it. All I know to do is pray 🙏🏻 that President Biden wins & that there will be an orderly & civilized transition of power this time.
I often feel that way in this hell state of Florida. I live in Broward county and I'm grateful it's a blue county but not by a lot. I couldn't imagine a red neighborhood.
I live in Oregon, which is a blue state, but I live in a rural county & it's a majority of Maga idiots! I fear to open my mouth about my being a Democrat, unless I know the person I'm talking to is a Democrat as well! My own brother lives in Eastern Oregon, & he's a Maga follower! In fact he's called me a libitard once or twice. Breaks my heart...told me once Mom, who died in '95 would be disappointed in me. HAH, Mom was as blue could be! Always said that the Democrats were for the little people & the Republicans were for the wealthy! From all I've seen, I have to agree with her! I will vote Blue across the board again in this next election!
Same in Montana. It's hard to overstate the level of delusion in the MAGA world. I'm reluctant to name-call in any situation, but the level of insanity and the detachment from reality is pretty shocking.
Not entirely, but it is a heavy lift for a Democrat to get elected. It's probably the most Republican district in Colorado. But what I was referring to is that the Republicans in the primary are all MAGA.
She already was unpopular when she arrived in her “new” district. She says she’s not running in the special election. (After all she has her seat until the next election anyway.) Whoever wins in the Special Election will have a foot in the door to the General.
The question for anyone putting their hat into the political ring is, “Do you support democracy and will you be able to resist the obvious pressures to be blackmailed to support the White Christian Nationalist (WCN) wing of the Republican Party? Do you absolutely think it is a really bad idea for Donald Trump to say out loud that he intends to declare himself dictator the day he takes office?” If you don’t support democracy and are actually a WCN sympathizer let us know now. If you do think of yourself as a supporter of free speech, personal responsibility and the rule of law, but have some other reason you won’t support a Democratic challenger, say, your entire family works in the oil patch and you don’t think they can retrain themselves for any other job, so you want to keep pretending climate change is unrelated to fossil fuel use, or something, then we can other sorts of conversations, but the main thing is, no person who is on board with Trump’s handlers ending democracy, should ever be elected to a position in the government again.
The problem is MAGA, the Hamas Squad, and way too many Americans think Dems are the bad actors. We can only guess what other Congressional Republicans really think because they're too afraid of Trump or too craven to say what they believe.
As an American Jew and a Zionist who grew up in the shadow of the Holocaust, I've protested successive and increasingly extremist Netanyahu regimes. Netanyahu regime policies are the security threat to Israel. Netanyahu tried to play Hamas against the Palestinian Authority, by building up Hamas. Before Oct 7, he was so busy trying to overturn Israel's independent judiciary that he ignored intelligence on signs of an impending Hamas attack. On Oct 8 Netanyahu could have called on the world to release the hostages, but he used the Hamas atrocities to commit atrocities in Israel's name and with USA weapons. Objecting to Netanyahu and our support for Netanyahu does not make me a supporter of Hamas.
lin- I read that comment as referring to the Squad in Congress, whose anti-Israel and often antisemitic speech is distressing and at times disgusting. I'm with you about Netanyahu; he's the wrong person at the wrong time. Worse, he doesn't seem to care about the damage he's doing to Israel, Israelis, and Jews everywhere.
Antisemitic statements by some of The Squad reflect antisemitism in the American Left - fomented for decades by Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam and Yasser Arafats's PLO. Supporters of both popularized The Protocols of the Elders of Zion (a very old Russian conspiracy theory.) And worked to marginalize
Jews in progressive activism. This antisemitism has tragically seeped into what I think is legitimate criticism of a zionism which has been appropriated by racist right wing Jewish and Evangelical religious extremists - culminating in the current Netanyahu regime. Although I am a very strong Biden supporter and am already campaigning for the Biden Harris ticket, had I lived in Michigan I'd have voted 'uncommitted' and had I been at the SOTU, I'd have held a fan that said 'CeaseFire Now' and 'Stop Sending Bombs.' I know Biden has gone further than any president (except perhaps Jimmy Carter) in criticizing counterproductive and unjust Israeli policy - but Netanyahu's razing of Gaza is a war crime and crime against humanity and the US has been too slow to pause weapon transfers. I understand diplomacy and the truly formidable work by Sec. Blinken and his team. I am hopeful it will bear fruit as a two state solution. But the US could and should have stopped the weapons - because nothing else could get the message to Netanyahu.
Well said. Thank you. Many of us see the detriment of Netanyahu’s actions but, unfortunately, many are not aware of his maneuvers with Hamas. I believe that, like Trump, his rampage now is mostly an effort to distract from & delay, if not thwart altogether somehow, his own meeting with justice. Let’s hope, for everyone’s sake, Netanyahu will soon be out of power.
Bravo! I too find Netanyahu a sad leader in Israel. Not unrepresentative of a potential candidate in this country. too much narcissism , not enough nationalism.
If you were in Israel with bombs striking beside you and killing your family, you still would want the Israeli military to do nothing to protect citizens?
Seriously? The Hamas Squad? And nothing to do with Bibi?
If you like, you can look at my other comment. But if being entirely opposed to the Netanyahu regime and its war crimes and crimes against humanity earns one membership in *your* Hamas Squad then count this old Lefty Zionist Jew in. Netanyahu has turned Israel into the monstrous pariah state its enemies malignly and mistakenly painted it as for decades. It is truly tragic. Especially as many Israelis don't agree with the Netanyahu regime, (like many Americans are trapped by the Trump regime.)
And 'Bibi' et al must be condemned. They are not defending Israel - they are destroying Israel.
Lin I totally agree with u. Criticism of Israel government is seen as antisemitic, which silences deserved criticism and leaves people like netanyahu free to be dictators. A two state solution is the only solution unless both sides are relocated to other parts of the world.
I sent an email to Mike Gallagher, our WI GOP Representative who announced he would not be seeking re-election. He was also one of three (with Buck) to vote against impeaching Mayorkas. I suggested he might want to do the same as Buck since he's being "ostracized" by his party. Just go early Mike!
Look at the districts that they represent. Electing a Democrat is almost an impossibility, and it's more a probability that they're going to be replaced by a MAGA. This wouldn't be a good direction to go.
TY for your comment, Susan. The answer for me is yes. Gallagher is a "trumper". He ran every time on a campaign as a veteran, but when he refused to acknowledge or condemn trump's comments about "suckers and losers" or Putin's bounties on our soldiers, voted no on the Pact Act (burn pits) even though he served fairly recently with soldiers who were severely affected, made a video during the J6 insurrection telling trump to call it off and referring to it as a "banana republic" in what appeared to be disgust, voted no to his impeachment, etc., etc. He was good at "talking the talk" but would not walk it. As the wife of a VN vet, daughter of WWII and Korean War vet and sister of two veterans who served in Afghanistan, he lied. He lied to all WI vets and the first "no" vote he cast that wasn't aligned with trump or his wishes was against Mayorkas impeachment. As much as that vote was critical, it didn't negate all of the votes he cast in trump's or GOP's favor since 2017. I was thrilled at his announcement that he wouldn't run again. I'm not sure that "sane" and "republican" isn't an oxymoron and I don't know who will replace him, but if a Dem has the chance to replace him, I'm all in supporting him/her. He ran unopposed last time. At least this time - we have a chance. It's good riddance from me in WI. And yes, I have met him in social and business occasions and he is a fraud.
The Republican Clown Car is now officially being driven by a Joker in an orange jump suit. Collapsed in on itself because of rotted moral fiber, the party may as well rename itself after its dear leader. How I pray that more resignations are coming and coming soon.
As one who grew up in an Eisenhower Republican family, the current status of the GOP is nothing short of a train wreck. Where once small government, low taxes, few regulatory burdens, and self reliance were the watchwords of the Republican Party, today, these traits are unrecognizable. They have been replaced by fascism, white Christian nationalism, nativism, misogamy, racism, and disregard for the rule of law. Of course people like myself have moved out of the party. The election this year is the most significant of my three score and nearly eighteen years. Obviously, I will vote against those spewing forth the MAGA garbage. I ask that those of us who were once traditional Republicans to join me in stamping out this evil at the ballot box. God Bless America. God keep our troops safe.
I am three score - full stop. I also grew up in a Republican home, and my dearly departed parents were sensible people. The worm began to turn for them when w. became President despite losing the election to Al Gore and pitched America into a war based on faulty intel and lies. They both voted for Barack Obama, first time in their life supporting a Democrat - but as my Pop said at the time "how much more should we be expected to tolerate? Obama is a good man and he will be a good President".
My parents are both gone. Dad a combat vet in WW2 with 95th ID (Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge) and Mom was Rosie the Riveter. Salt of the earth. They would never be fooled by the likes of Trump, nor am I. As a veteran myself, his Draft-Dodger status was the first sign to me, then his disgraceful comments about John McCain and finally calling our KIA’s “suckers” and “losers.” He is the most disgusting excuse for a human being possible. And yet, people keep supporting him. Evangelicals confuse me even more than the uneducated he so loves.
I understand maga. They r those who feel downtrodden because they can't make anything good out of themselves. So they latched on to trump for self esteem. This segment of the party is made up of the poorest and least educated in our nation. Who know nothing about what the Republican party historically stood for.
The search for power. They know brainless people will flock to them with what’s left over from their gold sneaker money and launch them ever more forward into the black hole of special interest money as they gain more traction with the electorate of stupidity. It’s a vicious cycle with the only winners being the power seekers.
They don’t have to put their heads in the sand though. They will regret to not at least, listening to the radio or to family members. I pray for the day when there will never be poor or uneducated people.
Buck managed his departure wonderfully. But just imagine: Imagine if, instead he’d switched teams and joined the varsity? The ones who like getting things done? The ones who don’t take a knee to the megalomaniac?
And I can remember back in 1968 when I thought I was living in the middle of some strange, turbulent, and dangerous times. Pales in comparison to current times. Everyone vote, and persuade others to vote as well. It's more critical than ever.
Perhaps our prayers are being answered, and not by the so-called Christians of the far right. Little by little truth will prevail. It is just very sad that the shenanigans going on in Congress, and in the media constantly subject us to the orange head and his beliefs. Why in God‘s name, does he still entertain dignitaries from other countries when he is nothing but a common citizen like the rest of us.? May the light of truth continue to fill the minds of intelligent people. It is a real wake up call for all Americans to continue with our democracy .
I keep preaching about Propaganda! People sit at their computers, read something that came from overseas (Russia, China??) and completely buy into it! A highly skilled Putin is attacking the USA trying his best to destroy our democracy, our unity. We haven't been this split since the civil war!
Very true. The division was intensified in 2016 when the orange head promoted more lies.
He tells lies that his followers would really like to believe. He tells them what they want to hear and they are hopeful that they will reap some benefits from his empty promises. Little do they know he works only for himself and the hell to his followers and democracy and the American people!
I wish there was a "Sad" response in addition to "Like". There is some connection between Putin & Trump we aren't privey to, together they'll take our country down
‘They’ will take it down, but Putin is way smarter than the orange head. Perhaps we should learn Russian. Putin would never partner with him, only use him, like the orange head uses everyone.
As pleased as I am to see the Republican Party crash, burn and be driven into bankruptcy by the Trump Crime Syndicate. I am reminded that America is not well served with only a single viable, sane, political party.
3 more GOP exits from the House can't come soon enough. And may the November elections cause the GOP congressional members that have supported the big lie and worked to support fake slates of electors find themselves voted out (and hopefully held legally accountable for those actions).
Again and again..... Dan you distill the confusion around us into concrete and articulate observations of the information swirling around us. Thank you so much for your continued dedication.
I would never agree with Buck on any policy issue but he’s showing integrity in the face of overwhelming tRumpist tsunami, and joins the elite ranks of the late John McCain who put country above party. Would never vote for either but appreciate their integrity.
No drama and long-time residents would certainly be steps in the right direction! But still all MAGA? Why??
Eastern Colorado and portions of the suburban Front Range in Colorado are deeply conservative. In the rural areas of Eastern Colorado, in any given town, you could stuff all the local Democrats (if any admitted to being Democrats) into a high school locker room and blow it up and they would bemoan the loss of the locker room. I know this because I grew up in the area.
Deeply conservative and MAGAt are two distinctly different mindsets. We all need to recognize and vocalize this. And then vote Democrat!
True, but deeply conservative has frequently morphed into the corrupt and cult-like MAGA.

Amen to that!
Yes, I too, believe thes magas are uneducated that is didn’t pay attention in school and didn’t learn because they didn’t want to learn.
Functionally there is little difference between a MAGA and a merely deeply conservative Republican who doesn't speak out or doesn't break with the crowd of buffoon/anti-rule-of-law believers. Beginning of the REAL end of what trump/MAGAites have done to this country & the world…..
Your district is all MAGA?
Well I don’t know about anyone else’s but my district here in NE Texas is 💯 percent MAGA! There are very few Democrats here & it’s just sickening to live in this RED Hell. I often feel that way in this hell state of Florida. I live in Broward county and I'm grateful it's a blue county but not by a lot. I couldn't imagine a red neighborhood.
A big "Amen" from this Florida Girl
I live in Oregon, which is a blue state, but I live in a rural county & it's a majority of Maga idiots! I fear to open my mouth about my being a Democrat, unless I know the person I'm talking to is a Democrat as well! My own brother lives in Eastern Oregon, & he's a Maga follower! Be careful and stay safe. Both my kids live in TX, I'm scared to death for them. Too many crazy's with automatic weapons live in that state!
Not entirely, but it is a heavy lift for a Democrat to get elected. It's probably the most Republican district in Colorado. But what I was referring to is that the Republicans in the primary are all MAGA.
Agree
She already was unpopular when she arrived in her “new” district. She says she’s not running in the special election. (After all she has her seat until the next election anyway.) Whoever wins in the Special Election will have a foot in the door to the General.
I’m more concerned that Colorado might be a place the Koch Network’s political arm targets. https://americansforprosperity.org/state/colorado/
Boebert was sponsored by Sen Cruz in 2022, that's where most of her money came from to win. Most likely his pot of gold is going elsewhere
The question for anyone putting their hat into the political ring is, “Do you support democracy and will you be able to resist the obvious pressures to be blackmailed to support the White Christian Nationalist (WCN) wing of the Republican Party? Perhaps the house of cards is starting to tumble.
From your mouth to God’s ears 🙏
Or visa versa
So correct or House of No Consciousness
I sincerely hope we will never hear about Lauren Boebert again! I wish she, MTG, Comer and Gym Jordan should all be banned from Congress.
How can you forget, the winner “” Matt Gaetz.
As well as the Hamas Squad. Can we get rid of all the bad actors?

Don’t forget Gaetz!
Add Gaetz and Johnson to that list. It couldn't hurt.
Kudos to Ken Buck!! Are there any other ethical republicans courageous enough to follow suit??
I sent an email to Mike Gallagher, our WI GOP Representative who announced he would not be seeking re-election. He was also one of three (with Buck) to vote against impeaching Mayorkas. I suggested he might want to do the same as Buck since he's being "ostracized" by his party. Just go early Mike!

As long as there are Dems to replace them, then yes.

I agree btw that nowadays Republican and sane is an oxymoron.
We’ll have to enroll Buck in the ‘Profiles in Courage’ hall of fame. I also think he’s leaving for his mental health.
Sorry, but I had to laugh when you used ethical and republicans in the same sentence 🤣

My hubs is a Vietnam Vet. He came unglued when asshole said that.
I love your Pop. We need more people with his moral fiber. 😊
I understand maga. They r those who feel downtrodden because they can't make anything good out of themselves. So they latched on to trump for self esteem. This segment of the party is made up of the poorest and least educated in our nation. Who know nothing about what the Republican party historically stood for.
JD Vance is not uneducated. Ron Desantis is not uneducated. Mike Johnson is not uneducated…….
So what explains their mindset: religion, misogyny, racism?
The search for power. They know brainless people will flock to them with what’s left over from their gold sneaker money and launch them ever more forward into the black hole of special interest money as they gain more traction with the electorate of stupidity. It’s a vicious cycle with the only winners being the power seekers.
Every interaction with Maga is about power. It's never about listening to views and exercising restraint and politeness.
They don’t have to put their heads in the sand though. They will regret to not at least, listening to the radio or to family members. I pray for the day when there will never be poor or uneducated people.
I'm on the same page as you are Eugene. Born and raised Eisenhower Republican. Made my switch in 1972. No for Nixon, I was on the right track!
Buck managed his departure wonderfully. But just imagine: Imagine if, instead he’d switched teams and joined the varsity? The ones who like getting things done? The ones who don’t take a knee to the megalomaniac?
I made that suggestion (I'm in his district) and got a polite boiler plate response that I interpreted as "when hell freezes".
Not surprising. But one can always hope that "normal" republicans will emerge from the current wasteland.
My guess, Buck may be courted by No Labels.
Gawwwwd I sure hope not! They have enough jerks there (RFK, Jr.🙄).
The hope is that Buck is not a jerk and will not get sucked in ....
But it is voters I am concerned about...
Well again, my word salad needs correcting, lin. I did not mean to imply that Buck was a jerk. I did mean that Jr. was.
Oh no. I took it to mean you hoped Buck wouldn't join the jerks.
Well, that too! :)
Agree!
Narcissists all turn on each other in the end because they hate everyone including themselves.
As pleased as I am to see the Republican Party crash, burn and be driven into bankruptcy by the Trump Crime Syndicate. I am reminded that America is not well served with only a single viable, sane, political party.
Rough times ahead.
Vote for Democracy
3 more GOP exits from the House can't come soon enough. And may the November elections cause the GOP congressional members that have supported the big lie and worked to support fake slates of electors find themselves voted out (and hopefully held legally accountable for those actions).
thank you for this. and also, "Team Steady" is a hall-of-fame team name.
Absolutely
Again and again..... Dan you distill the confusion around us into concrete and articulate observations of the information swirling around us. Thank you so much for your continued dedication.
Rep. Buck followed his conscience and not Trump, who, has no conscience.
I would never agree with Buck on any policy issue but he’s showing integrity in the face of overwhelming tRumpist tsunami, and joins the elite ranks of the late John McCain who put country above party. Would never vote for either but appreciate their integrity.
