Does anyone besides me find it curious that every time the former guy gets closer to PRISON, Putin threatens nuclear war? If you check the news timeline it’s glaringly obvious.

Now, would you PLEASE send this to every member of the Supreme Court as well as every member of Congress. They have clearly forgotten the rights of over 50% of the adult population guaranteed supposedly by law. The Supreme Court appears determined to destroying Roe & Wade and the rights of all women of their own bodies plus at least 3 out of 6 lied about protection of precendent to get their jobs. (They should be disbarred, every single one of them who lied.) Clarence Thomas was concerned that the leak on Roe & Wade had made people question the legitimacy of the Supreme Court. He is more than a little late - it happened much earlier as it became politicized. We have judges with conflicts of interest interference, a member of a Christian cult with no judicial experience, and two charged with sexual harrassment sitting on this court. Does he really think we are too ignorant to know it?

Very well stated Mr. Rather. I am irate. These three extremist justices lied to The Senate Judiciary Committee and to certain Senators privately. They should be charged with perjury and impeached. Justice Thomas should be impeached because he ruled against the January 6 Committee being able to have access to White House documents among which was evidence that his wife was party to trying to overthrow the 2020 election of President Biden.

I have absolutely no respect for these four Justices. They have no intention of trying to be fair and impartial. I don’t trust them.

Just so sad when the “ neutral” judicial branch of mainly out of touch white men can put the lives of women at risk like this

Illegal abortions result in dearth or at least serious infections and infertility .

And are these conservative judges going to care for all of the “ unwanted “ and perhaps addicted babies , pay for their housing , clothing , basic needs and education .

“Nothing is theoretical anymore. Sadly, that includes the real world impact of this cruel intemperance.”

Beyond personal choice and our own bodies What stops me In thinking about what I would do,(my time is passed) my heart and mind go to women Who are victims of abuse and violence.

As a child in Catholic school in the 60’s we were propagandized against birth control. I was 10. One day after one if these classes I rose my hand and asked “what if the parents can’t feed the children they have?” Holy Mother of God” I was given a tongue lashing in the moment that I never forgot! I can feel the heat on my cheeks as I remember this. I never raised my hand again to question anything. It went way south from that point forward.

Life is not sterile and simple. So much work needs to be done in this area of productive rights in every culture. From a humanitarian lense.

I am pro-choice and have worked in obstetrics throughout my nursing career. The impending overturning of Roe is a giant blow to women’s health care. However, I’ve seen posts in this Steady thread that I find disturbing. Referring to people who are pro-lifers that live in rural America as toothless and ignorant is not civil discourse.

New York Times columnist John McWhorter has written an opinion that is both thoughtful and measured. His op-ed in today’s NYT is titled I’m pro-choice: but I don’t think pro-lifers are bad people. I encourage everyone who posts in the Steady threads to read this article. Civil discourse is foundational to build a representative democracy.

Here's a thought; how about every male child born has to have his DNA recorded and put into a database. When a woman is impregnated and forced to carry a child she may not want to carry, whoever the farther is will have to pay to support. Men too carry the possibility of a new human life, shouldn't their reproductive capabilities be regulated then as well???

I agree about the filibuster and codifying reproductive rights, but more importantly we need to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Those very poor women who will be affected (and men) if Roe is overturned, are the ones whose vote will be thrown out, or questioned and manipulated as the Repugs are set to do nationwide. 18 months squandered trying to please two DINO’s (Manchinema). I am fed up trying to unite the nation with those who are trying to tear it apart. Sometimes tough love is required.

We know what the fanatics and extremists will do. The question is the middle, the reasonable. The 1/6 committee will revealing their findings soon. This draft shows how far this SCOTUS will go. The same middle, Democrat and GOP, that are sick of MAGA drama and damage, the ones that elected Joe Biden, may come through again.

if the people expressing dismay and rage will only get out and vote in 2022 and 2024 and years on. we can begin to stop and turn this drift toward authoritarian rule. but unfortunately the rule is that many will stay home and not vote as in previous elections thereby allowing the majority rule the majority. please let’s break this trend. we have allowed a whole group of individuals who have no respect for freedom and liberty to cease control of our government and society at large. we need to take back our country from racists , homophobes , and oligarchs posing as the common man. But the key is to get out and vote.

Those of us who are not driven to political ideologies must openly state the truth. My truth is that Christian Nationalism is a minority slice of American citizens. This minority group of people have been chipping away at democracy based laws for many years. For example, Trumps appointment of Barrett on the Supreme Court. As Trump said “elections have consequences.” For those whose lethargy towards voting remains in tact, get off your ass and vote the Christian Nationalists based politicians out of office and/or don’t vote a person in to a Senate or Congress seat who are staunch religious zealots that want religion to become the rule of law. The rule of law at which our Constitution was written must be supported and preserved to ensure our country’s future democracy. In closing, any American politician whose content infuses words like faith, or god are undermining the fundamental premise of our country’s constitution.

If Roe is overturned and given to the states to decide, then the states should have to pay for the healthcare of the mother and child/children born. They should also pay for all expenses necessary until that child is 18. Perhaps that will change the outcome of this decision to force a woman to give birth. No state or government should have that power. We are America not China!

I can barely speak about it. We women are held in such low regard and any purported concern for fetuses and not the family, not the health of the woman and family is the primary thing. The control of women in their basic reproductive capacity is stunning. We need to codify the right of women to determine what they do with their reproductive life. The hypocrisy of the right wing who screams about States’ rights but want the Federal Government to control women, minorities and non-citizens and non-Christians.

The tender sensibilities of several Supreme Court justices are offended by the anonymity of the leak. Compare that to the sensibilities of women forced by law to carry a child to term, possibly conceived against her will.

Not sure I can express myself without emotion. The level of my anger is high. I am angry with the people of the US for electing Trump for what they imagined him to be instead of using the evidence available to know that he is in reality a scum bag. He may not have started the long range Republican plan to weaken and destroy a strong but flawed democracy, but he sure was the vector to insert the poison now infecting the US Court system. I am a post WWII baby. I certainly knew classmates in high school and college who had abortions. As children of upper middle class and wealthy families, these women could afford private, safe, abortions. My husband told me he remembers that a few classmates would disappear from classes for short trips "abroad." At the time, he did not understand the reason for these short trips when schools were in session. These women had access.

Of greater concern, were women who had no financial nor emotional support, women who already had children to support as well as women in jobs outside the home who did not have access to childcare, women too young to parent or victims of incest or rape. Desperate women who were vulnerable to unqualified people offering abortions in unsanitary environments and conditions. I was among those cheering Roe v Wade!

In the current situation, states such as Texas are ready to prosecute anyone involved in providing abortions. What about a woman in her second term who spontaneously miscarries and must then be hospitalized. Will she and those in her health care team be under suspicion and investigated? When will men and women who live in ignorance of the female reproductive system realized that every woman must advocate for her own health?

If you don't want to have an abortion, practice a reliable form of contraception and/or don't have an abortion. If you don't want to perform abortions, choose a job in a health care setting that does not provide abortions. The choice is a right for you and should also be a right for women to make in regard to their reproductive health.
