I went to school with Donovan and remain in touch with him as a colleague as we continue our work in education. His speech is also a book, and he has other spoken word poetry available online as well. Thanks for bringing back a wonderful memory!
What an inspirational speech! However, it has alerted me to the reason behind the Republican Party’s determination to interfere with the curriculum taught in our public schools. They wish to control what information a student can or cannot receive. They don’t want anyone to be influenced to think differently than themselves. They know that the one who controls the narrative has the power to influence others. That is why they have been taking over the media. The factual American history would reveal some startling information about some fairly disturbing practices that were conducted in our country. I am willing for Americans to acknowledge our past, but it is of utmost importance that we do not repeat them. We must NOT allow the Republican Party to take over the narrative. We must demand factual information from reliable sources to be presented in all forms of media. Political discussions must require both sides to participate. What is happening in our country today is taking us backwards into very disturbing times. We need to move forward and make progress.
