You wrote "Politics should be about a competition for ideas that fall within the realm of civilized discourse. What these people are peddling is not policy, but prejudice." Truer words have ne'er been spoken.

I am all for combatting hate and agree that silence is complicity. But I think we have to ask ourselves, after people have been around for so long, why are we still dealing with so much hate? What are we not getting? Why do people hate people they don't even know? Just because they give us a reason, does it mean we should believe them? I think we need to dig deeper as a society. Where does hate come from? How can it be healed? We are not going to punish our way out of this. We need to look at the effect of childhood trauma, abuse, neglect, and lack of love on our brains and our ability to live peacefully in society. We need to talk about mental well being more. We need to stop separating physical health from mental health and understand how we must be treated as a whole. We need to start when children are young and ask how can we help them?
