What a contrast, Carter and Trump. The US is in a bad place but not for the first time.

Few of us have your history and/or experience. I am certain I speak for many.

Thank you for sharing and filling our heads and our hearts with invaluable education.

Thank you so much for sharing these momentous insights…My heart has barely been able to withstand these times of late; & seldom watch any news these days (or for the past few months)…But I am both humbled & heartened by your strength & great example, despite your own unimaginable grief… Through it, I am also reminded of the words & prayers of President John Adams, engraved upon our highest mantle….” I Pray Heaven To Bestow The Best Of Blessings On This House And All that shall hereafter Inhabit it. May none but Honest and Wise Men ever rule under This Roof.” No doubt President James Earl Carter Jr. was such a man…

~But let us also remember that “We The People” make up this house & May we never give up the fight for truth & decency…

I only hope & pray that one day soon (after the horrors of their rape & pillage are through), that the next inhabitants will truly be worthy to accept, & take upon them, her sacred mantle; & will do so “steadily & speedily”…May God help us through this night…

I delayed reading this because I knew it would make me sad. As you said, the eulogies certainly contained some good advice for trump. There's no question about this. And while you also asked & said, "Did any of these words make a dent with the incoming president? Let us be generous and say that no one can be certain." I would put money on it that trump didn't hear one word that was said and probably sat there the whole time thinking about the one 2 things he cares about: himself & his money. If anyone pressed him for his thoughts on the service, he would stammer and make one of his ridiculous statements about how it was a beautiful ceremony but inevitably turn it towards himself and say something about how his will be the most beautiful ever. (Heavy sigh.)

Soon, the "high-fire-risk zones" in the LA area will no longer exist. Then, the developers and builders can start building there again, as the "high-fire-risk zones" won't exist there any more $$$$$$. It's what they do, have done.

I think that America (just speaking about America) has finally reached the Pinnacle of the Capitalistic Endeavor. A final point where people completely don't count for anything of value, other than for labor, and the very few of the wealthiest are in complete control of everything. Truly, it's only about Wealth. Power Comes With Wealth. The Unions have helped for quite a while. However, today, even they won't count for much longer.

Truly, "Big Brother" Has Arrived, and It's Era Has Begun. For the time being, We can still openly discuss these things...

As you remember in his first term, everybody was busy watching him and reading his stupid tweets all the while he was placing federal judges all over the place and filling the Supreme Court.

Don’t be fooled he has other things up his sleeve. I take that back. I don’t give him credit for any of that. Someone else pulls the strings.. Someone else is arranging things while we’re watching him play puppet.

Thank you! I appreciate your calm reminder that the world has lived through evil times before and overcome them. You also avoid getting wrapped up in Trump's every new taunt and outrageous comment, and instead continue to focus on what our country stands for and what remains to be done.

There is no doubt that Roselyn and Jimmy would be on the front lines of the LA clean up if they could. Thank you for reminding us that they and many before remind us of what a great American looks like - filled with determination and powered by sheer character. you are also one of those, please don't let us forget who we really are down deep.

You help us stay steady. As you are well aware, today that is a very tough job. With an incoming president who will not even hold his hand over his heart as the flag and/or a flag draped casket passes by, who is turned around surveying the audience during Carter's funeral rather than listening to speakers whose words should be carved in his flesh, our job is extremely tough. Thank you for giving us courage and inspiration.

Thanks Dan for another great masterpiece. Your title defines Jimmy Carter so well. All those past and present who eulogized him agreed repeatedly that character was his defining attribute. Jimmy Carter was a honest politician who never took well to the Washington DC scene nor did they take well to him. His character surpasses most of those politicians serving in Congress today. During his presidency, his accomplishments were overshadowed by the Iranian Hostage Crisis which cost him his bid for reelection. During the decades after his presidency, Jimmy Carter was a humanitarian who helped those in need both here in America as well as those abroad. As we all brace ourselves for the chaos, turmoil, and challenges that lie ahead, I’m extremely grateful to have you and your Team Steady helping us in the fight against Trump and billionaire/oligarchs as they try to tear down our democracy, the rule of law, and enrich themselves at the expense of all other hardworking Americans.

This Morning I received an Email from The Vice President of The United States, asking me for more money. Here is my response:

Good Day Mrs. Vice President.  In my opinion, both Parties have failed us and our Country Terribly.  Four Years the entire Democratic Administration Refused to hold Donald Trump Accountable for his many crimes. Crimes that he committed before he took Office of The President of The United States, Crimes that he committed while in Office as President, inciting a Mob into Insurrection and Physically Attacking The Capital Building of Our Country.  Attacking the people who are Charged with protecting that building and defending the people inside that building.  Very few have been held accountable for this.  The man who instigated, encouraged this traitorous action, an attempted coup d'état against The United States, The Constitution and the Citizens of our Country, Impeached Twice, has never in any been held accountable for his actions.  He has gained control of our Supreme Court, to act in his favor, there by avoiding the Laws that We All Are Held Accountable To.  He is Convicted of many Felonies, where again, he is not held accountable for.  AND He Is permitted to "Legally" Run for the Office of President of The United States, supported completely by The Republican Party, who is now complicit in all of his crimes.  AND!  He will soon be "Elevated" to The Office of President Of The United States, Openly Claiming that he intends to Become Dictator.  Law in America Today IS Dictated By Who Pays The Most Money$$$$$   I supported You.  I had No other Choice, and I hoped that our current President, yourself, The Democratic Party And YES! The Media Would FIGHT to uphold all that is right with America, In The Face OF Enemies BOTH Foreign AND Domestic.  You All have Completely Failed America and Americans, in every possible way, and NOW, you Just Move On...   I didn't serve My Country For This Outcome!            Shame On All Of You.   P.S. I also did provide you financial support.  That which I could afford.

As the celebration of MLK day is quickly approaching, decent Americans must remember that “we shall overcome”. The tough issues facing us as Americans transcend political affiliation and we cannot lose our voices. A cartoon featured a couple stating that their need to remain informed clashed with their need to remain sane. I join the inspirational voices of Dan Rather and the Steady community to maintain my sanity. I believe that within communities like this one will arise the next James Earl Carter We must have Carter’s faith that decency will be reborn.
