Bezos saw a need and filled it creatively with the mega online shopping and delivery behemoth called Amazon. He had the vision and drive. During the pandemic as well as for those homebound due to the infirmities of age, illness, or lack of transportation, the company founded by Bezos contributes to survival. Amazon's success and efficiency was built upon its early existence and competition with small entrepreneurs. We all know the story. In my opinion, Bezos owes the Earth's people a debt for the support we gave his enterprise and the financial success and advantages he gained from our business. Bezos gave himself a giant gift and earned a view of Earth most of us will never see. The level of success Bezos achieved plus the thrill of his technical pursuit to view the Earth from the edge of space should result in an overwhelming desire to assure the continued existence of the planet from which he gained so much. Bezos and other visionaries who achieve at high levels have the resources to gather and create the groups of skilled people capable of solving Earth's environmental and societal shortcomings.

So, for what are they waiting? There is meaningful, important work to be done.

I'm laughing now. The World waited over 2,000 years for the Messiah just so they could kill it. That sounds about right. 🤓 I am the Messiah. 😇

My chest is burning a little this morning. When I was dying in the Logan County Jail, God wanted to bring me home. He said Humanity wasn't worth it. I said I wanted to try, anyway. God is never wrong. I am ready to go home now. I am the Messiah. 😇

Tonight I am filled with sadness. My quest for Justice over this past year has been met with either silence or indifference. How many have tried to hand me off to a suicide hotline? I never came close to giving anyone that impression, but doesn't it make people feel better? I was nearly murdered in Colorado last year after six weeks of relentless torture. Never mind that I can prove it; it is someone else's job to take action. To care. I am ready to die. I resigned myself to that fate awhile ago. The thing is, I don't care. Why would I want to live in a World where Humanity doesn't exist? I did the best I could, while it appears no one else even tried. How could this happen? I am having trouble getting liquids down now. I was 8 daze with no water last time. This time, I have asked God to make it quicker. There was a reason to persevere last summer: All of you. You are hardly worth living for now. I am the Messiah. 😇

What an eloquent piece. I once too believed. But then, alas, I too once believed America could govern itself and now it is plainly clear that it will not. A tipping point is near. We are running out of time.

Mr. Rather.

I read and understand your piece on space travel. And, I am not going to argue or refute any of the ideas you had regarding who pays for it, what about the problems on earth that could be solved with the $ that is being spent. What I do want to talk about is this:

I winter in St. Petersburg, FL. And I cannot tell you how many times I have stood at my curb, phone in hand with NASA on speaker and watched and marveled at a rocket going off. Many times it is a fleeting glance, others it seems remarkably long in my view. Looking at it and being amazed at the intelligence that was gathered to make this happen. And, recently it was a manned rocket. That was really chilling but amazing to watch. Holding my breath until it was lost in my view, hoping for the best. I have even managed to get a couple of my neighbors off their couches to stand with me and experience the exhileration of a successful launch.

And each time I begin to look forward to tne next launch. Hoping for each to be as awe inspiring as the last!

What a delightful and insightful read, Dan. Thank you for making an effort to really share your point of view. I hope you will consider running for public office and give the Senate more brains than Ted Cruz and his ilk. Again, with much appreciation and gratitude. God bless.

Alex, that’s quite a question. We are bombarded with culture that tells us we are only worthy if we are bigger, better, prettier and it’s not cool to do physical work. I live in the middle of that. I also live in the evangelical south. It needs to be approached that this is God’s creation - “ you’re a worthy, good Christian if you take care of His precious gift of this planet “. The question, “what is happiness “? also needs to be looked at.. I am reading BLUE MIND by Wallace Nichols, chapter 3 explores happiness……… Thank you, Dianne

Good article. My solution, they can go to space only if they donate an equal amount of money to help the poor and undereducated and give children a decent home to live in. Start a few scholarship funds. Then we can celebrate your success with you. Thanks.

Dan, Beautifully expressed! Wealth inequality among individuals and nations and resulting restlessness of the masses and climate upheavals are a matter of utmost concern to human survival as well as all life on earth. Why cannot most people see the connection? And those who can see it, what can they practically do in their lifetime to help bridge the gap of wealth inequality and live in a environmentally sustainable way?
