All great options!! I’ve written hundreds of letters with Vote Forward and made phone calls and sent texts. Talk to your friends and neighbors. Ask people - especially young voters- if they’re registered. We can win!!

Only found out about the postcard writing campaigns this year. I have written more than 200 through two different sponsors in the past few months. It really feels empowering since I am doing more than casting my ballot.

In 1967, I registered to vote as a member of the Republican Party because that is how my generations of family voted. By 1971 I changed my affliction (HA ! that was an unintentional typo) to “Independent” and have maintained that affiliation ever since. My family just assumed I was still a registered Republican. I am forever thankful to a BFF that told me about Dr Heather Day Richardson and Dan Rather, on Substack. That led me to Elliot Kirschner and Robert Reich . “The Things that Unite Us “ authored by Mr Rather and Elliot was a powerful walkthrough decades of history. I gained some profound understanding of certain national and global events that had influenced and shaped me. STEADY as she goes. It has given me the strength to react yet not panic. Panic is inaction.

FieldTeam6 gave me a list of unregistered democratic leaning women here in GA, I bought very nice postcards from them that had a (QR) code on them that if scanned with a camera phone would take them to the official registration site, well thought out and focused, the post office has been out of stamps, all kinds since early Sept, the clerk told me that people have been buying thousands at a time, I took that to be a very good sign. My daughter said that she received one from Seattle yesterday, she lives here. I don’t think the polls are catching that and the enthusiasm among young people. FT6 had lists for other states that still allow registration.

Those are not postage paid, you buy the stamps btw. Just want to be sure you know that in advance. 56¢ per stamp for postcards.

Yes-print or make or buy cards and pay postage!

Through my church, they supply the postcards and stamps. I supply the labor! So check around-not every group requires you to pay, though it’s always appreciated.

I know bc I had them send me 1000 to do and when I got them, surprise, it'll cost me $560.00 to do this, I emailled and told them there's no way I have that kind of cash to throw out on stamps.

Can you do 10 or 20? You might send to the voter that decides the election

They already went back, we're that tight. I tried to get some neighbors involved but no one was able. They'll still get done, just not by me.

Very good to hear! Moving back to Texas on Monday, and already registered to vote there.💙

I live in Texas, too. You can see what your county party is up to for things to do. https://www.texasblueaction.com/ is another option. Glad you got registered to vote. I have written several hundred postcards for this group. Did 300 letters for votefwd.org. It was fun when I was able to mail them.

I am writing 300 postcards to low activity democrats asking them to vote.

I am dispelling lies about FEMA in disaster areas by social media posts that tell the truth.

Expand full comment

I have been writing what are, I hope, rational social media posts all year making the point that he is not rational and his opponents- both President Biden, and VP Harris are. I’m a retired doc - nobody could read a post card I wrote even with glasses and an Ouija Board! Of note, my great grandmother used to say “plenty of time to rest in the grave “.

I had to rediscover printing versus cursive for the post card project. At about 250 I got noticeably better. I will buy the stamps. Oh, and I gave direct campaign contributions, too.

I am sure you know this: you are doing God’s work on this planet earth by saving the planet from this horribly disgusting guy, who unfortunately was born in the USA and we have to deal with his hatred for mankind. I hope and pray not for too long.

NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO BE PESSIMISTIC 0R THINK LIKE A LOSER. NOW IS THE TIME TO THINK LIKE A WINNER AND CONTINUE TO WORK TO DEFEAT DONALD TRUMP. HOPEFULLY, NOVEMBER 6TH WILL NOT BE A DAY OF SORROW, BUT THE DAY MILLIONS OF PEOPLE HELPED IN SOME SMALL WAY TO SAVE DEMOCRACY. Until then, write, donate, knock on doors, work with your local Democratic party on Election Day , be a poll worker , put out a yard sign, speak truth to lies....

As an artist in NJ and I made over 200 ceramic vote necklaces and used all the proceeds from selling them or giving them away to people who are working to get out the vote. Our bookclub has written 300 postcards and letters. See if your local League of Women Voters is doing anything. This week our League is making a final push in 5 local high schools making sure all the 18 year olds are registered and prepared with a voting plan. Many have signed up with the Board of Elections to be Poll Workers. We have a senate seat to save and a house seat to flip. DOING SOMETHING IS AN ANTIDOTE TO DESPAIR....

Thanks for this. Can I also point out that a Harris/Walz win without a blue Senate will leave most of what she wants to do at the doorstep. I'm in Montana, and it is likely that Senator Tester will not win (sadly). If you have the means, sending cold hard cash to the Senate races in Texas (Allred), Florida (Mucarsel-Powell, and yes, Florida!), and Nebraska (Osborn-I, and yes, Nebraska!) could help keep the Senate blue.

Don’t forget Ohio! I’ve been reminding women, via a sticky note in the bathroom stall, that their votes are private, just like their doctor’s offices.

Martha, do not despair! Check out, and maybe subscribe, to Simon Rosenberg's Hopium Chronicles. simonwdc@substack.com

He has very good, accurate, daily updated information on Jon Tester's chances and so much more--reliable polls, insights and hope, he's a bright light in the darkness, like Dan. The chances for Tester, Simon says, are better than you think.

My Indivisible group has been postcarding to swing states. We are packed with as many people as we can take and had to turn some away while informing them of letter writing and postcarding opportunities they can pursue themselves. The majority of our postcard writers are elders.

Your comment gave me the idea to shift our focus once we’ve sent in our postcards to run through the tape to help win a Democratic trifecta. Many of us are tapped out for cash after donations we have already made. But eager postcard writers can shift to phone banking and texting to turn out the Senate vote. We can also do ballot curing by phone after election day if we focus on national races that are too close to call. All we would have to do is contact the Senate campaigns and offer to volunteer. The Senate is the biggest challenge, but if we keep it, President Harris (I like how that sounds!) can pass her agenda and nominate judges who put our country and democracy first.

For me, running through the tape in these ways is far better than feeling anxious and hoping for favorable election results.

Great ideas, and it sounds like you have a super group of people. And yes I completely understand that hard cold cash is not always possible. Postcards and calls and other things are very valuable. I have 1000 postcards ready to go for North Carolina, felt great to be writing notes, recognizing the devastation, and also asking people to still try to find a way to get to a polling place or send back a ballot. Every little bit helps!

I have donated to all multiple times a d continue to do so. Thank you for this reminder and update!!!!

YES Floriduh! Mucarsel-Powell is so worth the investment if we can defeat Rick Scott, who presided over one the largest healthcare frauds ever committed in this country BEFORE he was elected governor and then senator. Supporting Mucarsel-Powell would sure do a lot to improve our image down here -- and we sure do need it!

I live in Pittsburgh, PA, a blue bubble in a sea of reddish/purple counties I have been doing voter registration and writing postcards. I know that the Beaver County and Washington County Democratic Committees need volunteers to do canvassing and a variety of activities. Neither of those counties is blue, but they are places where, if Democrats can increase their votes, they can cut Trump's margin of victory in their county and that means a lot in PA this year. If you are interested, reach out to the county Democratic Committee directly.

My husband and I took our mail-in ballots and delivered them to the town clerk in Barnstable Township today. Yesterday, we mailed the 100 letters and 20 postcards we wrote to encourage voters to go to the polls or mail in their ballots. We are active on social media. We have two Harris-Walz lawn signs and one banner. Both our 14-year-old Honda Civics have Harris-Walz stickers on them. We have donated more money than we probably should have, considering our medical expenses, to the presidential, House, and Senate campaigns. We still feel we need to do more, and if our health allows, we will!

Our group has distributed 250k postcards in the last 9 months! 100k or so of those have been to Voters of color in the voter suppression states with Center for Common Ground. Approx 6k to Navajo in AZ. Lots of partisan cards in collaboration with Activate America, BlueWavePostcards, Theyseeblue( Focusing on SE Asian Voters)...Postcards to Swing States, National Indivisible, and then many from individual Congressional campaigns. Additionally We are working on expanding absentee voting here in CT via a ballot referendum so, 28k postcards here in CT to let voters know it is on the ballot. We have a cooler set up outside of the home of my wonderful colleague who is our postcard whisperer! She packs it all up and keeps the cooler full!

In addition, I am the lead of and communications coordinator for 7 yr old CT Shoreline Indivisible ...an activist group of approx 1000 so I distribute info on phone banking, textbanking, canvassing etc etc.

So much to do ! And of course, lots of contributions in every direction!

I’m a Canadian. I follow you religiously. I grew up in Texas (what a mess that state’s in) and when I was in Taos visiting relatives I went to their very small Harris headquarters and made a donation and scooped up pins to wear. I’m heading back to Canada now and wish for all of you a winning Harris-Walz election . It’s not much and I wish I could do more. Because most of the Canadians I know also care deeply about the outcome.

The lying by Trump and his followers is not done entirely to get people to believe the lies (though certainly that's hoped for). The underlying purpose is more sinister. The constant lying prevents people from being able to distinguish the truth from the lies. It erodes a person's confidence in being able to determine what's the truth. It's a page right out of Hitler's and Goering's playbook.

Expand full comment

It's called "Cognitive Dissonance". It's why these days you so often hear the refrain, "I don't know what to believe anymore."

Unless you watch FOX News and RW media. In which case you're absolutely certain the Satanist, Marxist, Baby-exsanguinating Dems are eating your pets.
