The gun lobby sets the narrative. They allow us to debate and fight for fewer bullets in a magazine or a more traditional stock design. We hear dueling experts carry on about the POWERFUL WEAPONS OF WAR. There are literally dozens of more traditional looking rifles on the shelf that shoot the exact same bullet as an AR 15. And the magazine capacity is a body-count argument. We debate these side issues until we wear out and nothing changes.

Grab the brass ring!

Repeal the 2nd amendment.

If we are to fail at something let it be something that would solve the problem.

We argue about the type of gun.

We should be keeping any gun out of the hands of idiots or hot heads.

Why is it so hard to require a person to have training and receive a license to operate a gun? We all do it for driving and no one complains. Proper training does not equal restriction. It is responsibility. It is a life saver.

Well said…no counrty can support the use of guns to kill children and be a moral society…I fear for us all.

If in the not unlikely event that the United States ceases to be a "First World" country, historians will very probably list the insanity and sickness of Americans' slavish attachment to guns as having been one of the most significant contributing factors.

Would our nation have come to this if the laws did not allow the buying of politicians by groups such as the NRA? Americans may believe they elect people to represent them, but the truth is that politicians represent those that line their pockets.

Until the present iteration of Republicans are voted out, all sensible changes will not happen. That is very disheartening, because it’s all about the payoffs— both legal and dodgy— so those getting them aren’t going away.

I remember years ago how my sister, a psychiatrist, lamented how state and federal funding for public mental health care had dried up to the point that desperately ill patients were literally being turned out on the street. This was of course due to the actions of conservative politicians. Shall we pay with our taxes to save lives, or pay with the blood of our children to save guns? A gun will never wrap arms around your legs and tell you it loves you.

you are going to offer the same rhetoric again . again and again. Simple... Americans love their guns and will not give it up ever, the gun lobby is far too strong and the Party backing it is made up of die-hard, trigger happy ol' fuddyduddies with scant disregard for human lives especially if they are of the wrong colour!

Money out of politics! Citizen’s United brought us to this…all contributions to any political campaign/politician need to be out in the open for anyone to see. Many of those elected do not wish to serve the people of their districts; they crave power and do the bidding of those who throw the most money their way. The NRA is now the lobbyist for the fire arm industry; they do not deserve their tax exempt status.

Every politician gives the poor excuse that the right to bear arms is in the constitution. From what I understand that was a right given to the militia at time who did not have the automatic right to bear arms. It was not a right for any pea brained idiot to carry a gun and automatic assault riffles did not exist back then.

I am sick to death of the words without action and the moments of silence. Let's have moments of screaming - how angry do we have to be before the lawmakers actually do what we the people want?????

I saw today where Ted Cruz walked out during an interview when he was asked about gun control. Real mature there Teddy. Try doing your damn job.

Good words. They sum up how I feel. I have 4 hand guns, 5 if you count the one in several pieces I am working on, 6 long guns, but none that will hold very many rounds except two 22s. I am feeling guilty about my guns. All I shoot are paper plates and tin cans. I do not hunt.

I own one gun, a .22 that came to be in the hands of a thief who broke in and stole it. I pray that my gun has never been used to harm anyone, and never will be.

A .22 is not a big choice for thieves. It is probably sold to raise money for a larger bore.

So sad. I believe that candidates' platform should rally around removing, as one person calls them, 'the employees' of the NRA. It takes political will to curtail or stop these shootings.
